EOS developers have presented a proposal to change the model of resource allocation in the network
The company behind the development of the eos.io blockchain is Block.one has published a formal proposal to change the current system of distribution of CPU resources in the EOS network, according to which users will rent them for a 30-day period.
On the creation of such a proposal, which is based on the previously expressed idea of the technical Director of Block.according to Dan Larimer, developers were pushed by the November incident with a sharp slowdown in the EOS network and the rise in the cost of transaction processing.
Then, against the background of the Eidos airdrop, during which users used CPU resources to get free coins, there were problems with access to the REX CPU resources exchange. The cost of resources at the same time at some point soared by more than 100 000%.
The REX exchange allows EOS coins to be staked to provide resources due to users to other users in exchange for a reward.
As stated in the blog of the project, the current system of resource allocation is arranged in such a way that most of them, despite the high demand, remains unused. Because of this, the EOS network cannot reach its full potential in terms of performance.
So, during the mentioned incident in November, REX processed about 30% of the resources, and when they were exhausted, a very small part of the remaining 70% was used. This, the developers write, is confirmed by the fact that the bandwidth of the blockchain was used for less than half.
"According to the new proposal, the user pays rent through a smart contract, receiving for 30 days a part of the CPU / NET of the total number of resources. After 30 days, the lease must be renewed, and the price will be automatically changed using a market mechanism based on supply and demand for resources, " - said in a statement.
Representatives Of The Block.experts say that users will still be able to stake EOS coins in the new system, but instead of resources, compensation will be in the form of commissions from auctions for the sale of EOS domain names, RAM and income from the lease of CPU / NET.
"The purpose of the proposal for the transition from the model of granting rights to resources to the model of resource lease is to eliminate the influence of speculative markets on pricing. The rental market with pricing based on the total use of resources will be more predictable and reliable for the community, " the developers add.
As Larimer said earlier, the proposal provides that as available resources decrease, the cost of rent should increase. The transition itself should be gradual with a progressive transfer of resources from the old REX implementation to the new ONE.
Earlier in December, the cryptocurrency division of the rating Agency Weiss Ratings downgraded EOS from the level of B to C-due to excessive centralization of the project.
