In simple terms, IOTA means, Internet of things applications. IOTA allows smart transactions between machines on the Internet of Things. It uses a brilliant technology called the "tangle". IOTA is an acronym of Internet of Things, which is a distributed ledger, made to record and execute transactions between machine in the Internet of Things ecosystem. The IOTA platform uses Distributed Acyclic Graph (DAG) instead of blockchain. The technology behind IOTA is called the Tangle. IOTA aims at resolving the blocks of transactions that has to que up before confirmation, i.e there is no charge for transaction fees. IOTA has a coin called mIOTA. IOTA is the future improvised version of cryptocurrency. Unlike other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, IOTA does not use a blockchain. Instead IOTA uses a technology called tangle, which is based off a mathematical concept known as directed acyclic graphs. Zero transaction fee; With IOTA new design, miners are removed, so there will be no fees needed at all. Two main features of IOTA are micro-transactions and speed.

You just need to visit its official site and read carefully about it there.
I doubt if someone can describe it clearer than what you can get in the official site.
