Title: Losing your ethereum
Post by: Domithra on April 10, 2018, 06:54:30 PM
A friend just lost 5ETH and some tokens from his wallet. He has never copied his private key before neither has he shared his keystore file. Is it possible to lose your tokens to a hacker without having to get hold of your private key and keystore file?

I think it's not possible. Probably he failed to protect his private keys or json file and someone had access to his wallet.

You have to try this ⇒ blacklisted spam is ideal for ICO investors, Ethereum traders, and users who are serious about cryptocurrency trading. But, I believe that it is ideal for anybody who wants to have full control of their own wallet and coins - both starters and experts. Get your Ether wallet ⇒ https://blacklisted spam.com

For this one I think he mistakenly gave his private key out.  That could be the only cause of it

Under normal circumstances that should not happen but maybe he might have shared his private keys on a platform which he might have forgotten or better still stored it on someone's computer which has been hacked. There are several reasons so i suggest he sits back and remember where he might have laid of his guards. This will help prevent further scamming or better still create a new e wallet for new transactions.

It shouldn't be, the private key is the only key to open the wallet unless he tried to enter it in other device or in phishing site that looks like the same. Anyway, loses is lose it will never back. Better to move on and learn from what the possible mistakes why it happened.

I don't think so but hackers have many ways to steal anything they want, and there are some phishing sites that they made so maybe this is the reason.

He might have used a phising site or a malicious program was installed on his PC that copied his login details and sent it to the hacker.
Sorry for the loss

If you find your password from any place ;

Warning - any Ether you send to this account will be snatched up. The tokens are locked, so don't bother transferring them out.

Maybe there was unnecessary things that your friend unaware of. I'm not too sure about the secure privacy on how your friend handle that. I think hackers could not access the secure wallet unless there was laziness that happened.

Basically in real world if one person or the team loose there was a problem that something bother to everyone. Maybe there was a problem with the wallet or storage or maybe your friend forgotten something that so much important. Better to remember everything by detailed.

This might be as a negligence on the part of your friend. This might be whether he disclosed his private address to someone or someone has been playing a hide and seek with him on his wallet where the person has transferred the coins he had.

Wasted effort. It was sad. What is better now move on and get more opportunities and grab it in case to earn more eth than what was lost. Learn from the past.

There has to be a reason behind this. He needs to reflect on all he has done with his private key. It might be that he unintentionally or mistakenly copied it onto a wrong place. He needs to know why so that he doesn't happen to him again

Most likely your friend forgot something. users usually send their private keys to attackers. it is also possible that he got a phishing site ... I read how hackers sent messages to the post that the purse fork of the etherium was sent to the mail ... while the address of the site of the attacker did not differ from the site of MEW

Yes. Funny to think if the hacker live with you. No more effort to hack your wallet just a few steps and words your coins in the wallet gone.

Very possible. You get phished and you land on the wrong website. Whatever thing you do becomes very dangerous. Sometimes you might think you are at the proper site but you may be phished. That is why MEW always warns us to check web address whenever we log in

I think if you do not want to lose your profits from ethereum, I do not think you are selling low prices, better you can wait for a price higher than the price you get.

That's trange, I am not sure it is possible to hack it so easily , so I wonder what your friend could do wrong. Perhaps you should ask him to be a bit more specific on his actions.

If what he is using is an online wallet it is much better to always check the latest news of MEW Wallet ontheir social media to become updated. Because sometime MEW got hack and the only source of info that we can get is from their social media page.

I read some bitcoin keygenerator hackers. But I dont know about ETH. It is possible. The thing I dont understand is people are writing this as a normal stuff. `Hey I have 15k BTC private keys. One of them had 15 btc s`
It may be possible. So is it`s better to store in a hardware wallet

Sounds unfortunate , but that's the problem of blockchain technology, you can get hacked and no one will repay you back. No insurance as such.

So sorry for his loss. But hackers have a way of stealing information without you knowing how they did it. This might be a new way of stealing people's information but because we don't know how they did, we might think they are not the cause of it.

To be honest I wonder how that was happened because as far as I know it is impossible to access your wallet without any interference from third parties? Maybe there was intentional mistakes.

Indeed we must be careful with our private key, because if we lose the wallet token asset, coins etc, will be lost useless nobody will have if our private key is lost, just hakerlah / computer information technology experts or so that can restore the wallet we.
If I lose I will see the right to be able to return the wallet even though we divide half of the wallet I will do rather than lose it completely.
I hope this helps.
