Not out of the community's expectations, Ethereum developers have taken timely actions regarding the decentralization & security of the ETH blockchain.
And before that they have strong solutions like PoS, now the risk can be with Shardings, when a few nodes, not the entire node, will confirm a transaction. Hope the smartest minds in the crypto community will find a way to improve the Ethereum platform.

All these developers do not understand that anything hack-able would be hacked it is just a matter of time provided that the incentives is there. What happens to ETC is what most of these small POW coin would end up suffering for because POW is not sustainable model for most of them. Bitcoin distinguished itself from the rest because of its first mover advantage plus its network effect. POS is a good option if well designed and by now ETC developers must be thinking seriously about shifting to POS
