In 2019, three Stanford University started a project called PI Network which aims to create a new cryptocurrency. The development goes through three stages, and it's currently in the third stage where they are testing wallets. The idea behind it is to allow people to install an application on their mobile phones and tap on a button every 24 hours to earn some tokens, which are currently mined through their servers. They have released nodes that currently work and would be used to validate transactions when the crypto is released. It currently has 18 million+ active users, and a very high support from the community. You cane read more about it from its white paper.
