Title: myetherwallet hacked by a phising site, please help
Post by: deardr on May 23, 2018, 10:27:53 PM
I am a newbie to online biz, I was having some tokens in my ether wallet around 500 dollars value and today I was signing up an airdrop from this site https://klazerairdrop.typeform.com/to/WP72VO?ref=  with their twitter account https://twitter.com/klazer_klr  and they asked me to verify signature so that they wanna know this ether wallet address belongs to me and I was having no idea that this was a scam site and I thought this is secure myetherwallet website and I logged into this with my private key to verify signature and that was the mistake which I realize now cos I just logged into myetherwallet and my tokens have been transferred to the scammers account which is  0xcdb26199db086d54f7b11e50ca4374b4dd9ce13f   and u can see they have transferred my tokens into their address from my wallet address which is   0x9B8D2dF353A0b9705cA24289087Daf869E6ca072 and transacation details are available at https://ethplorer.io/address/0xcdb26199db086d54f7b11e50ca4374b4dd9ce13f  so I want to know is there anyway to track these scammers? is there any chance that I can recover my funds?

Unfortunately when you give your private key with your ether address, a scammer can do anything with your address.
Once they sent your $ in his account there isn't possibility to recover your funds and track those scammers because all address are anonymous and transactions are irreversible.

If you already hacked bro, sad to say there is no chance or way to recover your lost. The next time you login to myetherwallet bookmark it so you will be safe and never trust any email, its a way of a scammers.

Oh I'm very sorry for that. These are some of the things we fear in crypto- getting phished. I think the best thing you can do now is to protect yourself from future phishing, and also do not ever follow a link to log in to your wallet accounts. Always log in to your wallet using a bookmarked authentic domain name (always check that). sorry!

Real sorry to hear about this, try not to take it too personally, you're certainly not the only one. Many people get scammed, even the most experienced investors like Ian Ballina recently. While you can't claim you funds and the authorities won't care, you could look into the Hacken service which attempts to freeze stolen assets and can help to limit the profits these thieves will make (if they haven't already sold it).

A recommendation for the future, have a variety of different wallets for different pruposes:
- A hot wallet, that is used for accessing MEW. This can be used for individual transfers of assets.
- A cold wallet, keep these private keys offline and encrypted on external devices (such as Ledger or Nano)
- An airdrop wallet, that has low amount of value which you can use for risky airdrop scehemes
- Use metamask when accessing MEW, this means you can verify transactions and not put your private key into MEW, ever.
- Use etherscan to check your balances, unless you are transfering funds, you should never login to your account.

Hope this information helps and that you're not completely put off investing in cryptocurrency.

Thats why you can't login any private key on the other sites, because why they need your private key to verify your account?

wow, i grieve over the incident you experienced. hopefully this can be an experience to always pay attention to the security marks on the top left, also always make sure the url where you visit, double check we always need for it, especially if related to the assets. I dont think it is returned and it is very difficult to trace the owner of the wallet's address, maybe you can try the ledger wallet bro

well, there isn't much i could say that wasn't already said... take this up as a lesson that didn't cost much, i know these were your hard earn tokens, but in the end it would have been a lot worse if you were hacked a few months from now when you would have a lot more on yur wallet....
these shady guys will always be around sniffing for inexperienced people after the easy money... keep in mind that if something smells fishy, it is usually fish, don't be sad to forget about a supposedly awesome airdrop, or giveaway, or contest if something seems not right...
the only thing required will always be your account address, nothing else...
good luck !!

Oh, I'm sad to hear that. This incident has happened with my friend, but it's hard to trace. Make this a lesson to be more careful in the future. Don't just open a site that isn't clear because it's at risk of phishing.

My MEW was also hacked. They use copyboard virus. Try to remember last two digit of your private key. Copy your private key without last 2 digits and type it when you log in. This is a simple way but effective. And sorry for your loss. There is no way to recover it now.

There are no ways to track scammers and phishing sites except when you try to consult a hacker. I feel sorry for you bro because I felt the same too when my friend got scammed. It is really a huge amount of ETH but he chose to let it all just go since he wasn't able to retrieve anything. I just hope that you've learned something from protecting your account in order tpkeep your crypto safe.

Sad to say that very small chance to recover it.
Oh ya, before, I always joined airdrop.
I joined all airdrop, I don't know scam or not.
And yeah I also joined airdrop using typeform and finally I also submit my PK wallet.
After that, I recommend my friends to don't join airdrop like that and give my PK.

The conclusion is you don't give your PK wallet whatever the reason.
