It seems that Kazakhstan may soon take first place in the world bitcoin hash rate, since the US Congress passed a bill that prohibits Bitcoin mining in the United States and introduces some other restrictions. The bill is awaiting the signature of the President.
Moreover, a similar decision may soon be adopted in the European Union. Sweden has already approached the EU countries with a proposal to prohibit the mining of cryptocurrency, which uses the energy-consuming PoW algorithm. In light of the latest commitments by states to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the EU may well make such a decision. It will be seen how Kazakhstan will act then.
