The world's biggest country will reach a crossroads on crypto regulation as it enters 2022.

I even know what they will do in Russia regarding the cryptocurrency. Putin's regime is not against cryptocurrency there, he is afraid to give financial freedom to his people. Therefore, there is constant throwing from side to side. Moreover, for high-ranking officials there are some opportunities and rules, but for the people they are completely different. What they come up with in relation to cryptocurrency exchanges will depend on the specific situation at that time.

The plan to ban its use as a means of payment, of course, they see some negative impacts in the future, such as the money being said to be used for money laundering or financing terrorism.

Besides that, they are worried that the increasing popularity of cryptocurrencies will pose a risk to financial stability.

and so far the central bank's position is total rejection of all cryptocurrencies.

I don't know what they will decide. But their decision will be a role model for other countries. For example, my country may also be affected by the decisions in Russia. Because as Turkey, we follow a wait-and-see policy.

They've already spoken about banning a different kind of things and actually tried to exclude a lot of stuff there, although it wasn't successful at all. So I suggest they strongly dislike the idea of having zero control of crypto, and that's the reason they want to shut it down in Russia. Due to the decentralisation of crypto, it will be pretty hard to ban it. I believe people will find a way to overcome the restrictions anyway.

I do not think that the decision of the government of the Russian Federation to completely ban cryptocurrencies can greatly affect other states as an imitation. Russia is gradually becoming an outcast for the world community due to the fact that Putin is threatening everyone with military pressure and is going to fight the whole world. This behavior is not worth emulating.
There is no consistent approach to cryptocurrency in Russia either. Constant throwing from side to side. Therefore, it is difficult to predict what they might come up with. So far, one thing is clear: they have no time to think about the people. They are trying to restore the old empire on the bones of people.

I am seeing a good chance that eventually Russia can be allowing some crypto-related business to come in maybe in specific area or location...with the intent to exploit the possible market and to bring in revenues for the government itself. Had it been a blanket ban, maybe they could have done that at the time when China decided to ban cryptocurrency. Right now, we are reading some positive statements coming from the top hierarchy of the country so I am hoping that soon we can see Russia slowly and carefully opening its market.
