Title: So Metamask decentra-lied to us?
Post by: cheezcarls on March 04, 2022, 05:06:34 PM
After all this time, are we being "decentra-lied" by Metamask?

If this is true, it removes Metamask from one of the "true" decentralized wallets club. We understand that it's an app, but likely we are deceived that it's really decentralized because of private keys and recovery phrases being implemented.

I am a Metamask user for a long time. If Venezuelans are blocked from doing ETH transactions on Metamask, probably they might be doing similar moves to other countries for "regulatory compliance" or something like that.

Any thoughts about this one guys?

MetaMask is a product of 1 company and it is not really fully decentralized.
I'm still afraid that my account will be stolen by just 1 error of Metamask. A user was recently hacked and lost around 600K USD on Metamask by an icloud feature. This will make users nervous.

The SEC is suing MetaMask developer ConsenSys. They are accused of offering securities inside the wallet and operating as an unregistered broker. They also didn't like the Lido and Rocket Pool steaking programs - again, unregistered sale of securities.

Isn't better to start a new thread instead of bumping this one? It's quite old and the lawsuit is not directly related to the case OP talked about. Maybe we can use that as an argument to say that Metamask isn't decentralized since their developer is found guilty of operating an unlicensed broker service. I believe starting a new thread is better to avoid off-topic discussions.
