I doubt if there could be the best altcoins as per ratings this year 2018 because the cryptos market has been constantly fluctuating and coinmarketcap rating has also been up and down. I think the best coin this year 2018 could be decided by vote in my opinion.

There is no alternative to bitcoin and I do not think that it will appear. If you are asking about promising altcoins, then Yes-Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, Zcash look good.

Agreed. Fancy Litecoin in particular, can see it making big moves over the next 6-12 months. Hoping to see Bitcoin's marketshare diluted further so that the market doesn't rise and fall purely based on it's movements, but that's a while away yet.

Other than the more well-known altcoins like ETH, EOS, DASH, etc, it's worth looking at new promising ICO coins. Like VLUX for one - http://vlux.io/ (http://vlux.io/)

Why does bitcoin need an alternative? Bitcoin is like gold-will always be the most important cryptocurrency.

To be very honest, I feel there are SO SO many options that one can pick out but we just need to ensure we get it working after we have fully figured out the concept and analysis the thing well. I mostly track up latest news from Cryptonewstrends (https://cryptonewstrends.com), which really helps me up on the account of keeping all news working in same place and have incredibly straight forward system as well, which further ensures all works safely and easily for me. This can easily be said as the best resource for any Cryptocurrency trader and that by a fair distance, at least to me.

Purely from an investment standpoint MCan Coin (https://mcan.io/) will be the best alternative to Bitcoin as the parent company is $60 million dollars and growth is expected to be 10x in 3 years.
