Maybe during its creation in 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto. Bitcoin today it has lots of competitors and as of this writing it's around 1590, and still counting. And among these competitors, Ethereum I think is the top contender.

Bitcoin has a competitor. Looking at the rate at which ethereum is growing, ethereum has the potential to be just like bitcoin. Although market cap counts in the crypto community, the market cap of ethereum keeps on raising and raising. People look at competition in term of value price, but in the world of crypto, market cap determines your competitor.

BITCOIN definately has it own compitator which is the ethereum , it just need time for the eth to mature as that of btc. But for now btc is ahead of eth. But there is a chance for the eth which will take years, it just needs patience .

Ethereum is a big competitor of Bitcoin. Although the price difference between the coin is very huge, Ethereum has the potential to rise like Bitcoin.

I think bitcoin has many competitor. Ethereum in the second. There is XRP, stable coin and Litecoin is good coin too. They are bitcoin competitor.

Not any competitors im worried about.. sure there are ones faster with less transaction fees but bitcoins been time tested and is very decentralized.. I don't think its speed or transaction cost is really that negative, considering I don't really view it as a currency and more of a digital commodity.

Once there are several other coins, it means Btc has a competitor, just that the competitors have nothing to show for now. Many of these altcoins are doing very well and may give a stronger opposition in some few years to come

In fact, those who are just launching their ICOs are claiming to be better than bitcoin but because they are fairly new then only a few people now about them and less supporters and this is what the advantage of bitcoin is. It has a community that would be willing to buy the coin even if the price go down. The community is confident that the price would eventually go up and this is what the edge of bitcoin has over other coins.

I think ethereum is main competitor of bitcoin. Because ethereum is cheaper transactions fee and the second of the best crypto.

Bitcoin has it's place as the first digital currency, but it is old and with a lot of weaknesses in relation to newer coins... fess are very high, speed is not good and privacy is almost gone... besides, the only use that it has is transactions...there are a lot of projects with other uses besides money...

if crypto is to evolve and go global, bitcoin will have to loose some of it's importance

There's always be a competition at cryptocurrency even though they have different purposes and technology. If the project has no innovations it will be left behind and could end-up to nothing and will sink that never floats again. Bitcoin is very valuable that price really differs even at those top altcoins like ethereum and litecoin but who knows that in the future some altcoin will stand strong and surpass bitcoin in the future.

Every good thing has no competitor. Ethereum can be like bitcoin but I don't see ethereum as bitcoin's competitor.

In term of technology, many coins are better than both bitcoin and Ethereum in the market. But ethereum and especially Bitcoin have a great reputation and are known by almost everyone. I think these two coin will continue to exist for a long time. ON the other hand, in the future, other coins may have a wider usage.

I don't think so because, all other altcoins depend on bitcoin to survive. Bitcoin has really over shadowed all the other altcoins thereby seeing no competition from other altcoins.

It is true that other altcoins are doing well in their own way. But when it comes to their competing with bitcoin, they are not much for bitcoin. I just have to look at the exchange rate. The price of bitcoin affects the price of ethereum and not even vice versa. It is known that ethereum has a great potential to grow and can make its way to the level where bitcoin is. But to dethrone bitcoin, I think it's a long way to go and more innovations should be made before this can be possibly achieved.
