Title: Any advice for the starting developer?

Hi there
I have a software engineering background and I know nothing about crypto and blockchain.. I would like to become a part of the community and apply my programming skills here.. What would you recommend to start with? Are there particular emerging areas where we can create something new yet? I assume nobody needs a new altcoin )

learning solidity is a first step . then creating dapps and growing the ecosystem
