Title: What is the purpose of automated posts here?
Post by: examplens on December 21, 2023, 01:00:26 PM
OK, I'm still trying to adapt to the structure of the discussions on this forum, I'm not doing the best  :)

I see that every topic gets the first reply with the rules of the forum, automatically posted from the Altcoins Talks - Cryptocurrency Forum account, and the purpose of that is more than obvious. But why is a post with a smiley posted right after the first regular reply?
If it's some antispam protection, I'm interested in how this thing works.

btw. I even can't quote posts made by Altcoins Talks - Cryptocurrency Forum account

I've found it annoying. The same banner image in every thread you go to. I understand the importance of knowing the forum rules. But I guess the admin could change it a little bit. These banner rules should disappear once a member reaches a certain rank, confirming that they have spent enough time to know about these rules. Similar to the newbie warning on the Bitcointalk forum.

You don't have to force me to read the same thing every time I visit a thread. But, this space could be utilized by the forum admin to make some money. But, they should have reduced the size. I am also concerned by the signature width! People can write a whole article in their signature space. I saw user wrote a big list of users in his signature space and I was reading it because I thought it's his post. LOL.

Yes, it can be quite tiring to repeat the same thing on every page. I'm not even sure why it's in image format, or why it's not a text message.
In general, there are perhaps too many images, banners, avatars, and badges on this forum. Each section has a special icon...

But I opened this topic to clarify the purpose of this post (or maybe not everyone sees it)
I have to make a screenshot because I can't quote

Agree with this. The smiley post always shows randomly on every thread page. It's like an off-topic reply, it really annoys me the most. It is the same thing as the forum rules, but I feel it should be minimized to a certain rank, just as mentioned above, knowing it's important to know those rules.

Yeah I think my brain has subconsciously started neglecting it.
It might have been talked about in the forum
We can't really tell
But if its that disturbing to you,
You can inform the admin on the home page chat group
They would definitely give you a reply.

Lol. The truth is, I haven't really paid attention to the two facts you just pointed out. Basically, I met them on this forum, knowing fully well that I have read it a number of times, so I don't really show interest in it. I guess maybe the admin or whoever is in charge wants to put every user on a safer side by providing a reminder of the forum's rules. Ideally, not everyone loves to read the rules concerning an organization.
The moderators might have further answers.

My guess is admin reserved the spot for the mentioned automated post. I think a few years ago I saw that the rules were broken down into two messages, hence the 1st and 2nd spots were reserved for the rules. But maybe my mind playing tricks since I'm getting old.

Yeah, it's annoying and should be removed altogether when the forum quality is better -> mod becomes more active & many regulars here are willing to remind users of rules, plus report bad users.

Somehow, in the other discussion, the admin answered this question. This seems to be the final statement and indicates the reason for these automated posts.

I saw that there was some discussion about an automatic "second" post with rules on each page, plus this post with a smiley  :) Perhaps it would be possible to think about improving it. It is quite monotonous and tiring, Honestly, I'd rather watch an ad instead.
Well, maybe a little more discreet presentation of the rules, along with the bb-coded signature space for rent, might be an acceptable solution.

with the set of rules repeating over and over, and you would still find a lot of people that do not follow them

I have posted in that thread, too, and shared the idea of disabling the banner for members who have reached a certain rank. Seeing the same ads over and over is annoying, and I guess you will agree with me. I have shared my Idea, but I don't think it's enough to convince the admin. If you guys share your opinion regarding the banner that shows the forum rules on that thread, It will be easier to see how the community is taking it. If people take it positively, I have to adjust myself with these banners! That's it. But, I am being honest that I am still new here and getting familiarized with the forum UI and other things as well.

i have noticed that too about the rule banner showing up on every thread i have visited so far.
i have to say it is strange compared to the many forums i have been on throughout the years but i guess we will get used to it at some stage.

it seems like an idea to have it only visible to certain low ranks and then it no longer shows up for the higher ranked members.

but who am i to say this being only a new person here

Even if he does not want to remove it since he thinks it will help users remember the rules of the forum, he should at least make it options for those that find it annoying.

There’s an option to disable signature, he could also create a toggle button so that those that don’t want to see the automated message can switch it off… it would be better this way.

I have suggested this to the admin on another thread, and the admin said he would consider it. I don't know if the admin is the only person who currently codes this forum. If he is the only one, it may take a long time to code and release these things. I don't want to hurry because as long as he promised to take a look, he may do it today or tomorrow. Until then, let's wait. Maybe we might get used to it with the banner. LOL.

Nice one!

I wonder actually how many active moderators/staff there are?

I know the forum is "self moderating" but surely there is a
team to at least check occasionally and or fix bugs/implement changes or is it indeed down to one person?

I don’t think moderators are given that permission.

Normally in a forum only admin and some selected(depending on how it was founded)few are allowed to have access to temper the data of the site and also implement changes, moderator could be given some permission like being able to access trash can, delete users thread if it’s spam, lock thread, and some other features that a normal user won’t be allowed access to.

Although, I have never worked as a moderator before but I believe that’s how it should be.

I asked this question before and this was the answer*, so this seems like a final decision.
In general, it is easy to hide @Altcoins Talks - Cryptocurrency Forum posts using the ublock extension for Chrome[1] and Firefox[2] and a simple settings.
If this does not violate the rules, I will publish the method here, although it is simple and can be found within the application properties.

*
Is it possible to delete or hide responses from @Altcoins Talks - Cryptocurrency Forum. It contains a set of rules which is good for those who recently log in, but there should be a way to hide them.
Other than that, UI is good.

it is a reminder of the rules, it displays on 1st reply on each page

There are many members on the team, and most of them only have access to the front, where they may ban users, delete posts, move topics, and perform other moderation actions. But when it comes to working in the backend, like developing new features, adding and removing features, and fixing bugs, only admin and devs with coding knowledge can access the backend.

Even developers do not have access to the product. They do the development on the stage version. Once testers or admin check the feature, they release the newer version.
