I discovered that the domain extension of this forum is .com and not .org. I tried to access dot.org but denied. Why use the .com instead of .org?
Any genuine clarification on this? Sorry, if this has been discussed before.

yeah sure,
.org is usually reserved to organisations, none profits, or even ideas that have social benefit
for bitcoin it made sense to have .org as the team was trying to spread an idea
As for altcoins talks, it is just a forum, there are no higher objective, hence we chose the best domain extension in ranking which is the .com
there are a lot of domain extensions (As of 2022, there are nearly 1,600 domain extensions listed in the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) Root Zone Database.)
It does not matter if it is .org .net .com or any other domain, as long as people are able to find it

Totally agree. Of course there are so many top-level domains, but even now .com is the most popular. If you know some name of an international website and don't remember its top-level domain you usually first try .com. Because statistics says (https://www.statista.com/statistics/265677/number-of-internet-top-level-domains-worldwide/) that the share of .com is still 46%. And .org has just 4.5%.

I also think that .com is looking better for this forum as this forum is generally for exchanging crypto related information with each other.
I think KingsDen has little confusion that other Bitcoin forum end with .org then why here different from that forum. Admin already cleared that there was a one big idea behind this forum to develop a decentralized method/token and . org was best suitable there despite the fact that .com is most famous one and hence here no such type of idea to develop any one project so chosing .com is smart option.

And admin happen to also confirm this very thought of mine here, just as he has said that the domain extension doesn't really matter as long as people can find the site.
I would also say that people also tend to get really familiar with sites with .com extension than ones with .org, I remember that for several weeks when I joined bitcointalk, I was always typing .com instead of .org every time I wanted to visit the site from a new device I've never used to visit the site before ;D.

Yeah just it, I noticed same thing though but didn't bother to put it in thought because can't start comparing to forums together, and besides I've already getting use to the . Com and it actually suit the forum. And apart from that the forum actually doing great and I love spending most time here too. ;D

What is more strange to me is the choice of the domain name with 2x "S". Why altcoinStalkS, why not altcointalk.com or with only one S?
Autocorrect corrects me and offers me more meaningful "altcoin stalks"... ???

I have also noticed that the domain is altcoinstalks.com instead of altcointalks.com as the later one sounds more good to many of us, but if I'm not wrong then the forum tends to talk about many altcoins instead of a single one, and that might be the reason why the admin have chosen altcoins talks instead of altcoin talks.
I think the best would be altcoinstalk.com as that would include all altcoins and talk as well, but I'm okay with the current domain name as I have already remembered it and bookmarked it.

hehe guys, you are throwing me curve balls here
simple truth is that other simpler .com domains were not available,
unfortunately in the internet business, domain squatters sit on nice domains and try to resell these domains for 5-6 figures
we were trying to launch a simple forum, thus were not ready to pay 10000$+ for a domain
at the end of the day as they say whatever works.
By becoming relatively successful we burned the value of these other domains. Now any domain similar to altcoinstalks has no chance of having search position or brand recognition thus ... domain squatters don't always win.

Knowing this domain name was just bought in 2017 where crypto getting acknowledged worldwide. It is indeed a pain to have a premium domain where you need to pay thousands of dollars just for that, where you will pay other expense to get the site running ;D
