Title: Stake Bitcoin/altcoin address?
Post by: Yamane_Keto on January 12, 2024, 09:11:02 AM
I tried to search for how to secure the account, but I did not find two-factor authentication, and using the Secret Question may be worse than the password option.
How can the account be restored if it has been hacked or stolen? Can we do a Stake Bitcoin/altcoin address, meaning that the account holder signs a message from the Bitcoin/altcoin address, or is there a better way to help quickly recovering?

The only way to recover account is through email for now and I think there is no other way to recover account. You should add 2 step verification in the email.

I request from your thread to Admin or any moderator to think about it because it very possible that someone lost access to mail and Bitcointalk account. If he has btc or EVM wallet than he could easily get back just by signing transaction. It will add extra security to altcointalk account.

Staking Bitcoin address is a great way to prove your ownership for an account in case of getting hacked and being unable to recover your account with email, Same method is being used in Bitcointalk. so you stake your Bitcoin address, and when you get hacked you can sign a message with that staked address to prove your ownership then admins help you recover your account by resetting your email address.
there can be other verification methods too. but I think this method is best because it is also decentralized. i see this forum has KYC option also. maybe this Is the method admins here using

For teleported account if there’s ever an hack, admin could simply verify that you’re the owner of the account by asking you to place a specific information on your Bitcointalk profile (since both account has the same username) before the recovery will be done.

I don’t know about Bitcointalk I’ve never sent a pm to any mods there, but I believe that the admin response (same with mods) here are pretty fast so it’s not going to be an issue if an account get hacked here.

You are right with this, but about those that are not teleported? How then will they get their account back in the event of a hack aside from email and so?
I think admin should find a solution that will he general, that is, a solution that will work for both teleported and non-teleported users, one group of users shouldn't have a special privilege that is not available to the other users, we all are equal users as long as this forum Is concerned.

And speaking about signing a message with our bitcoin or altcoin address, forgive me if I am wrong but I do not think that bitcointalk had this facility as an official feature on the forum, i think a user created that thread, and due to the patronage on the thread due to how popular and important user's took it, theymos then decided to start using the message signed on that thread as a criteria to recover stolen or hacked account for users who are victims.

We can replicate and do same here as well.

I would understand staking Bitcoin address in forum, but doing it for all other altcoins would be a huge mess and almost impossible to implement.
Adding 2FA would be much better solution for improved security of accounts.

I support creating a thread to stake your wallet that you once used here, it works on the other forum it will also work here teleported members can easily verify account ownership through the other forum but we have non-teleported members here, and staking wallets will have them verify ownership in case of a loss, our account here will soon become valuable if the activity and traffic flows continue to grow.

This seems reasonable. I asked the admins before, if the account was banned in bitcointalk, would the account be banned here? He explained that there is no relationship between the two accounts after being teleported, but it is still possible to use the bitcointalk account to prove identity.

If there are no new ideas, I will lock this topic. It seems that we do not need Stake Bitcoin/altcoin addres here.
