Title: Ignore members easy?
Post by: notblox1 on January 31, 2024, 12:35:45 AM
Is there easier one click way to ignore some forum member and not showing his posts?

Only way I know is going to profile settings and adding members manually in my ignore list.
Man I am to spoiled with bitcointalk forum buttons  ;D

I just scanned through my profile setting to see if there’s a checkbox for me to add “add to ignore list” the same way we have “add to buddies list” but I didn’t see anything that was helpful.

I haven’t thought of using the ignore feature and I’ve only used it once in Bitcointalk; but I believe others use it more often so that admin should find a way to make it easier to be accessed.

He can add it close to the “add to buddy list” feature.

I do not entirely remember if this was included in the request to the admin on the live chat a few weeks ago, a user was wondering if they could add an ignore button like how it was on the other forum. They responded that they would look into it.

For users who don't know how to manually add an ignore user, here's how to do it. (https://talkimg.com/images/2024/01/31/kiVqg.png)

I don't use this feature in bitcointalk.we can still see the person quoted, so it is not that effective.

I think some good programmers of the forum can make a solution that would do the task with one click. Maybe an extension or a Tampermonkey script is all needed to make this task easier for those who want to ignore some members.

I personally don't ignore any member on Bitcoin and also on this forum but surely some people really avail ignoring feature and for such members a programmer should do something.

Admin has said that he'll implement that button in future but for now a programmer might do that to make the job easy for the members.

Over time (I guess when the skin thickens) you acquire the skill to ignore certain users, without any help from forum features. Although I still have several of them on the ignore list, even if I happen to not participate in their discussions.

I think that the admin has a lot to do here at the moment with a higher priority than the "ignore" option. Not everything is as easy to do as it is easy to say.

Even if the admin will add a modification to ignore users I don't think I will use it I have not found anyone here that annoying that deserves to be added to my ignore list although I have a few names on my other forum accounts if there are some annoying posts I just pass those posts I believe the moderators and the admins will take care members who are offensive here.

I agree.

Your suggestion to move cryptocurrency discussion to the top would be a top priority imo.

Bounty earnings etc should never be the top of the forum. I will write a topic about it later

Ignore button is not top priority IMO as we don't really have that many trolls on the forum so far. If that picks up, I would like to see an ignore button sooner rather than later.

For those wanting an ignore button just to ignore spammers, I think it's better to still be able to see spammers posts and report them vs ignoring them. If you'd rather not be a reporter then just ignore them IMO.

I highly agree with you, admin is working day and night to improve the forum, not only that but he's also trying to make many changes in short span of time. That's why I said that someone else who's a good programmer should spend sometime to make some extension or a script to enable fast ignoring.

On Bitcointalk mostly TryNinja and PowerGlove do those things but here I expect Bitmover can do something at least.

I think I can do this. Looks simple.

Would you download tampermonkey to be able to ignore an user? I think I can do that fast

I tested it and it kind a works, but only for post content, not for titles  :P
For example I reported one spammer/plagiarist today and I added him to my ignore list... but I still see all his posts so it's not very effective.
You can see whole topic is full of his copy paste crap:

https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?board=81.0 (https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?board=81.0)

So even if button was added, it would not be enough for me to make forum easier to use.

Just make sure to hide everything from ignored members, not just content of post.

I assume he is a candidate to report on Report Plagiarism (https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=62494.0) so the moderators will take further care of him.

I also started preparing a post about this, so whoever opens the topic first.  :D There is a lot of room for improvement.

Thank you for short answer.
See you in Future AltcoinsTalks forum!
I am looking for perfect mix of BTT and ALTT and I want the best of both worlds, but dont rush so much with changes or you will break things again.
And you should hire someone to answer all teleported calls and questions  ;D

I personally wouldn't use that feature because I never ignore any user but those who want to avail the feature will surely install tampermonkey and add your script to make the task easier. I believe you man, you can do that. You have the skills to do that thing and I'm sure soon we will be able to see that feature only because of you!

I think OP of this thread will love to avail that feature and for that installing of tampermonkey won't be an issue. I was trying to not install tampermonkey back then but now I'm also going to install it because some good features can be enabled with tampermonkey scripts that coders like you can make for ease of us.

Yeah I know, but I can't waste anymore time on him with posting there again.
I already reported him to moderators and I don't know what happened after that, but I can still see all his plagiarized topics are available there.

As the admin has already shared his opinion that he might implement this feature in this forum soon, I would also like this feature but to be honest, till now even on BTT I have not come to use the ignore button AFAIR. I think Ignore buttons are not for me haha, Well, I picked one thing that most of the improvement requests are coming from teleported members, they are requesting admin to add things that they were used to on BTT.

I do find this helpful for the teleported members, but I also think it could hurt the marketing strategy of this forum as well. Because this forum is not directly linked or running through BTT, means it is not some associated branch of BTT, so we are not going to get same features as well. Instead we will get new features that were not even exist on BTT. Like the public chat (I liked it most).

I have created the script to ignore users. Now anyone can ignore users on the forum.

To do so, you need to make 2 simple steps:

1 - Download ViolentMonkey (open source) or TamperMonkey (closed source):
Chrome/Edge: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/violent-monkey/jinjaccalgkegednnccohejagnlnfdag
Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/violentmonkey/

2 - Get my script here, which will be installed in violent monkey:
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/486714-ignore-user-in-altcoinstalks-com-forum

Now you just need to edit my script to include your ignored user list:
Go to line 17 and add your ignored user list. Remove "Satoshi" and "Nakamoto" and add your trolls. Keep the username inside single quotes ' '
