Phantom is more flexible imo, as it also supports Solana.
I prefer Phantom. However, metamask is also a good choice if you just want to use ethereum and bnb. If you need Solana, Go with Phantom
-
I don't have any experience using phantom so i can't tell you about it as metamask can do all things that you need as a wallet, even MEW is pretty good as well which i always recommend as eth wallet in offline mode or lets say in an airgapped device for tight security and safety.
-
Since you only mentioned ETH, I'd recommend MetaMask. I prefer this app because of its excellent multi-platform support. Plus, it's not heavy on resources. As for Phantom, I haven't tried it yet, but I've just read a few articles online, and generally, Phantom is a wallet for Solana and possibly Polygon too, so it's more multi-coin or perhaps multi-chain.
As long as you only need ETH, MetaMask is still sufficient for storing your ETH assets and ERC-20 tokens.
-
Is there a reason why you limit yourself to those 2 wallets though? I think we can give better suggestions if you tell us what you want to do with your ETH. I've experience with both of them, and as far as my testing goes both perform the same as a hot wallet. This is probably why some members explain the benefits outside of storing your ETH as the reason to choose one of them.

If OP is referring to this one[1], it is fair to say Ethereum is one of their biggest chains since the marketing material said so.

This is my first time hearing about phantom but it seems to be a closed source wallet, so I won't try it
Everyone will recommend MetaMask but they have poor privacy policies[1] that may include restricting* you from broadcasting your transaction so it is best to avoid them.
It remains the only one available option that is open source and has been working for years ---> https://www.myetherwallet.com/
If the comparison was only between MetaMask and Phantom, I would choose MetaMask.

Cryptocurrency wallet Metamask and Non-fungible-token (NFT) marketplace OpenSea are banning all accounts based in the sanctioned countries by the US government.

You are right, myetherwallet is a good choice. It was one of my first eth wallets.
Multicurrency wallets usually are closed source , sadly..
The only open source Multicurrency wallet that I know of is Unstoppable, which I didn't like it (poor bitcoin support and lacks monero)

Hardware wallets are almost the only ones that fully support many altcoins, but it is not difficult to download 3 to 4 wallets.
- For Bitcoin you can download Electrum
- For Ethereum, BSC, Polygon and most tokens you can use myetherwallet
- For Monero you can use cake wallet
- For other cryptocurrencies you can use Unstoppable.
Frankly, coins/tokens with low market cap or that do not have a well-reviewed open source wallet should be ignored, or at least use another phone with a closed source wallet.

I agree. I use sometimes android wallets to recover coins that I will just need to receive and sell in a few moments... I have using them for years, always for small values (at most 1000 usd), and never had problems.
-
OP, there are several goof wallets out there that you can use to store Ethereum, is it that you only prefer these two wallets that you are asking on clarification on. I prefer metamask, but when I first came into the crypto space, I started with myether wallet, but I don't use it anymore, and I use trust wallet currently, because it can accept many cryptocurrency.

I use metamask more because the composition on my cellphone is more graphic for me, besides, now metamask can use a lot of networks so it's safe for apps on cellphones and PCs
that's my classic thought for metamask
-
I agree with bitmover that if you plan to do Solana projects and somehow integrate it and use it together, it's best to use Phantom wallet. I would suggest that you use aa hardware wallet as well which both are capable of too, so it's for security purposes as well.
Have you decided OP?

MetaMask Coin is sufficient for storing Ethereum coins and supports many other coins. Because Metamask wallet is preferred by almost all investors and has comprehensive security. It can set its own password and private key exists, it is most preferred by Metamask wallet investors for double security.
-
Most wallets have the facility to store Ethereum, software wallets as well as exchange wallets can also store Ethereum, in which case you can use software wallets or exchange wallets to store your Ethereum. Among software wallets, you can use MyEthereum wallet or Metamask wallet if you want. Besides MyEthereum Wallet and Metamax Wallet, you can also use Tast Wallet if you want. If the exchange is not safe for you, you can avoid holding Ether in an exchange account, but if you are confident, there are some exchanges where you can keep your Ethereum if you want.
-
for me phantom, because it was initially created with the Solona blockchain, it also supported with ethereum. And Phantom could give a smoother procedure for managing solona assets and ethereum assets if you are deeply involved in the solona community

If you want to keep Ethereum coins then you can definitely use mew wallet. And if you want to add coins from all other platforms then you can use Metamax wallet.

Rabby wallet is much better than metamask and all other ethereum wallets I ever used.
It is open source, working in all devices mobile and desktop, and it can be connected with many hardware wallets for more security.
Other EVM chains can easily be added with Rubby wallet:

My best wallet for eth started with coinomi, this was the first supposed non-custodial wallet I started my crypto journey with, I then later learned that coinomi wasn't that great a wallet to trust since they are not open source, I then shifted to myetherwallet which was web based, used that for a while before shifting back to coinomi, later on, trustwallet was introduced., I shifted from coinomi to trust wallet, later learnt that trust wallet too isnt open source, I still kept using this wallet though, because of its simplicity and easy to understand mode of operations.
Right now, I am in-between three different software wallet which I keep ethereum, and they are namely
- Trust wallet
- Mycelium wallet
- Chainge wallet - Chainge is actually a Dex with crosschain interoperability, which aggregates liquidity from all other Dexs, this is one of my most favorite wallets since I can actually trade without having to leave the wallet, or withdraw my eth to another platform.

Be aware that coinomi has been discontinued and doesn't receive updates since 2022.

Ethereum is not working anymore in coinomi.

Great wallet, relatively recently (4 months ago), started using it. All necessary functions are present + constant updates.
P.S. I read a lot of information on the Internet about the safety of this wallet. As such, there were no critical cases. That's why I started using it. For those who have not tried it, I definitely recommend it, to discover something new. This is not an advertisement and I was not paid. ;D

Metamask is a multi-wallet and this wallet generally has the opportunity to connect all types of wallets, so if a user uses Metamask wallet, he can store other coins in addition to Ethereum. If a user wants to hold only Ethereum and choose a wallet to hold only Ethereum then My Ethereum Wallet is the right choice for him. If you use any wallet, you can give a positive review about that wallet. As I have used My Ethereum wallet before I know how safe and easy it is to keep only Ethereum in this wallet.

What i will first look into is to consider the purpose for the need of that wallet which i want to use, if am only investing on Ethereum to hold for a long time, then i may have to make use of meta mask wallet or ant other non custodial crypto wallet, also in making selection for the best crypto wallet, this is the only recommendation i will give because they are more reliable to use and are being understandable as well.

- They're both okay with me, and I've been using Metamask for a long time, and this phantom is just recently, so the best thing about the phantom wallet now is that you can qualify for their airdrop's if you meet their criteria in the apps.
something that metamask doesn't have in what phantom does, but what's also beautiful about metamask is that it has p2p features that I don't even know if phantom wallet also has. because I'm still in exploration.
-
I prefer other kinds of wallets with more mutichain notifications. For now, I use Bitget wallet cos it offers diverse multi-chain notifications while one can easily add more network compared to Metamask

MetaMask Now multi currencies software wallet and very much better performance than others software wallets.
Exodus, phantom mainly Solana wallet but also good for Multiple coins.
Trust wallet, Bitget and safepal software wallet also very popular for Ethereum.

because I know Metamask first, I am more comfortable using the wallet, and the operation is also easier, it can be used on the desktop or mobile website, if Phantom hasn't tried it on a cellphone yet
-
I'm using my hardware wallet, Ledger, and Trezor and connecting it to Metamask and Phantom. For everything related to ETH layers and the chain itself, it's mostly Metamask, but if it's SOL, it's most likely Phantom to be used. It depends on what you are trying to do.

In addition to supporting the Solana blockchain, Phantom also supports other blockchains, including Bitcoin + Ethereum + Polygon, making Phantom a favorite choice for many users in recent times, becoming the most downloaded application on AppStore and GooglePlay. I often use MetaMask but am also learning about Trust & Phantom. I think that decentralizing crypto storage is as necessary as asset diversification. I do not refuse any crypto wallet application, as long as it is secure, multichain supported and user-friendly.

So you should try it at least once in your life. Phantom on the Google Play Store gets a rating of 4.8 out of 5 (a total of 23.6k people reviewed it) which is very close to perfect. We all know that human habits will always be updated with the presence of new and more interesting applications, Phantom is there to try and it is completely free.
I'm not saying MetaMask is obsolete, but I just suggest you try Phantom to see how it differs from MetaMask and find a wallet that suits you better.

Thank you for elaborating with this. It's really interesting to have Phantom being connected to my hardware wallet and making it more secure. It's like having a steroid wallet lol. I use it to participate in different projects as long as it's compatible.

It depends on your preference, but anyways, you can decide to go for the wallet that supports many other coins like the metamask wallet, this is very common and most used of all altcoins crypto wallets, i chose metamask because it supports many cryptocurrencies and also one of the most used crypto wallet in altcurrencies, easy to use and understand, you can store your seeds on your own.

agree with the words "deciding to choose a wallet" because with this we have to use n= and carry out a comfort test in using the wallet, so try it and give an opinion on the wallet that has been used, it will help new applicants.
