Title: Which project/token inflicted your biggest loss?
Post by: KryptoBull on February 18, 2024, 01:18:18 AM
We always hear that the crypto market is very potential and brings life-changing opportunities to many people, and the truth is that it is not difficult to find articles about young crypto billionaires[1] or a someone becomes rich from investing in crypto[2]. However, opportunities are not alone but exist with risks. We do not forget that to create huge profits for one investor, there must be many other investors who have lost money. Many assessments even say that up to 90% of investors in the crypto market suffer losses[3].

Unfortunately, I am not an exception: I am among the 90% in 2022. I also suffered losses on the Credits project in 2018, but at least I successfully stop my loss to focus on other investments. As for FTX, I could not do anything.

Perhaps everyone knows FTX CEX scandal and its once very famous FTT token, but this is my losing journey: I did not buy FTT during the 2021 uptrend because I was not interested in the development of FTX. However, after UST-LUNA collapsed in May 2022, FTX appeared as a hero when it wanted to use its huge budget to rescue troubled companies like Celsius[4]. This has made me more interested in FTX, and the FTT token price is also well supported at Fibo 0.618, so I believe that the FTT token price has bottomed out and cannot go any lower. I bought 40 FTT tokens at 25 USD without placing stop loss orders because I believed I was lucky to buy FTT tokens at an extremely cheap price compared to its potential.

In November 2022, everything fell apart when FTX was accused of defrauding users of their funds[5]. Even though I did not use FTX and did not have my assets frozen, the value of my FTT tokens decreased more than 10 times in just a few days. I tried to continue holding but the FTT token price continued to decrease, sometimes even 1 FTT = 1 USD, meaning my investment decreased by 96%. Finally, I sold FTT tokens at 2.5 USD in January 2023, confirming a loss of 90%, equivalent to 900 USD. I chose the right time but put my trust in the wrong token.

This loss really shocked me. I finally understand that we should not put too much trust in any project or individual in this crypto market. Everything can be just a clever play to defraud investors: an exchange that grows too quickly, an individual who becomes famous in a short time... We must be cautious and never forget to set stop loss orders in investing.

I want to hear your unhappy stories in this market:

          -    So far, I haven't experienced anything like that, and I hope I won't experience something like that, although we can't avoid unexpected circumstances. I agree with what you said—that there are many opportunities that can really help us. That's why the majority of them don't really succeed in the end. It's always more that doesn't succeed.

But what you experienced is also disappointing, mate; 90% of what you should have earned. Maybe during those times you expected the price to be high in Ftt, something that you may have regretted if you had sold it when your profit was already big. here. That's why it's really important that you have a target for selling the token you hold.

1. Which project/token inflicted your biggest loss?

Aside from the many scams and phishing attacks I experienced in the past, I lost some money here and there...many of those were small amounts but if you put them together still I could only imagine what I could do with the money today since I am in dire financial situation and I need some more resources to use. Now, most of the coins and tokens I gathered came from my bounty activities in both forums (BTT and ATT) but sometimes I was enticed to buy some with my real money. I could remember BTCV (https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin-vault/) which I then assumed really got a strong potential but so far it continued on a losing streak. Remember that I bought my BTCV at around $200 but look at the price now it is just below $1. Aside form losing the value of the coin, I also lost money with their mining plans whose operation was closed due to regulatory constraints.

2. What percentage and amount did you lose?

I think I lost around $3000 which may not be that much with people living in Western countries but for a person based in a developing country the amount can already be staggering and can already be of big help most especially these days when the cost of living is rising everyday.

3. How did this experience impact your investment journey?

I was so discouraged that I almost decided to let go of my participation in the industry for good but then again I realized that I could not detach myself from the potential and excitement of cryptocurrency so here I am still continuing my own journey.

Which project/token inflicted your biggest loss?
Actually, it wasn't a single token but two that caused me to face that loss. It's one of the biggest losses that I had in crypto investing, fortunately most of the times I win instead of losing. The projects that caused those losses were dull ones but I still invested in those, one of those was BNX new and the other one is SNM token.

What percentage and amount did you lose?
I lost more than $1500 with those two coins, I recovered some of the losses but due to their rapid price drop and not recovering for many months I have lost that money. I invested around $2000 in those two coins and both of those gave me losses.

How did this experience impact your investment journey?
I took a break after those losses and it really showed me a lesson that useless projects won't get pumped and they are the main cause to lose a lot of money in crypto market. Now, I basically invest in top coins and so far I have seen only profits.

My condolences to FTX for losing money due to the collapse of the fraudulent alliance created by Sam BF, FTX and Alameda. Unlike UST-LUNA, there weren't many signs that FTX's business model had problems, everything happened so fast and Sam turned from a hero into a villain, similar to Do Kwon!

1. The project that I lost the most is probably EOS. In 2021, many people believe that EOS price will reach $250. I also bought EOS at $9 and want to keep it for up to $250. But in the end, EOS only touched $14 and reversed down with the market in May 2021, then could not create a new higher price in November like BTC and many other ALTS.

2. I cut EOS at $4, meaning a loss of 55.5%, about a few thousand dollars. I'm really sorry about this mistake with EOS when I made a wrong judgment and didn't manage the risk well enough.

3. This loss continues to help me realize more about the characteristics of the market and my own investment plan. Hope in the new cycle I will be able to avoid silly mistakes as I had with EOS.

I TOOK some profit but by the time Nov 2022 rolled around I needed more cash for real life. I decided to sell at 23k gave my self a huge capital
Loss. I purchased back most coin at 16k. So I made back most of that loss.

I bought a lot of shit coins that went to $0 as of now, even though technically the money comes from something else like airdrop, so the loss doesn't feel that bad. It still sucks tho, since if I'd known earlier I'd pivot that money to other projects like Solana which I also follow quite a bit, but miss the opportunity to participate in the early ecosystem on its dapps. If we're talking outside of crypto though, I find myself quite unlucky since most of my investments failed to return a profit, one of them even scammed me quite a bit. If anything I learned that my risk tolerance is quite low, plus with the capital that I have, it is better to be patient and use DCA instead of gambling away my money to get the next x100.

Sorry for your loss, you are not the only one who lost a lot of their money in the FTX incident. They deceived many people. It seemed like a very strong exchange with a promising future and gained a great reputation, but unfortunately they were proven deceived.

Anyway, I also lost a lot last year, when Elon Musk decided to buy Twitter. A shitcoin called “Elon Buys Twitter” EBT was created on the Binance network. Its price was low at first, but it began to grow quickly. I bought a large amount and held it for some time, and the price rose dramatically and  I made big profits.

But then the price dropped, and I bought again, and the price continued to fall, and I lost a lot. Of course, I knew full well that the price would fall again, but I thought I could make one last strike before the decline, but unfortunately I was not lucky.

Which project/token inflicted your biggest loss?
I haven't tried to invest in a project/token yet with real money but if we are talking about time and effort I have a lot of them like soferox, aidus, beyond protocol, swipe crypto, bintex futures and many more they are nonsense projects that is worthless. I participated in all of their bounties and yeah just a waste of time and effort. 😅

What percentage and amount did you lose?
It cost a lot of time and effort like a 100% and it is the reason why I missed some opportunities.

How did this experience impact your investment journey?
That affected me financially as a bounty hunter some years ago and here I am again. 😅✌️ It put my bounty hunting journey into a halt just because of that experience. But I am not giving up I am willing to take high risk for the high reward. I know time will come luck will be on me and others as well.

FTX is a crazy case in this market, a media fraud to usurp users' assets. This is a lesson for me and all investors: we need to self-custody crypto and should not trust anyone or any organization, we must learn and handle investment risks ourselves.

Memecoin trend had been very popular in 2021, it brings profits and wealth to a few people, the remaining majority will suffer losses. I'm sorry but hope you will make up for that loss in the 2025 uptrend.

I haven't tried to invest in a project/token yet with real money but if we are talking about time and effort I have a lot of them like soferox, aidus, beyond protocol, swipe crypto, bintex futures and many more they are nonsense projects that is worthless. Bounty campaigns were a good choice in 2017 and 2021 but currently we have too few potential projects to participate in. Good projects decided to conduct an Airdrop through RetroActive with huge rewards to be promoted thanks to hunters like Arbitrum, Manta and Pixels. Bounty campaigns do not even require translation or signature campaigns, the reward is only a few hundred USD at the time of reward payment. Bounty hunters are wasting time and energy to get a few USD.

Hope we will soon have many good Bounty campaigns to participate in and get potential tokens for uptrend!

I too have been there. It is very painful after spending time and resources to invest in a Crypto project and after that you start hearing stories and activities that went South with the project and your investment.  I have lost alot of funds to crypto projects as a newbie both scams and others that could not fight their way through to the top.

All of it was a very big lesson I learnt and the experience has taught me a lot of things which bothers around crypto investment and lots of other engagements as well. As a result of my experience, I take my time to do my research before taking any step further in investment both in Crypto and others.

Ftx case is really difficult to judge, only very strict risk managers will immediately close the FTT token as soon as they see negative news and poor communication handling from Sam and Alameda. The FTT token price also fell as fast as LUNA when it collapsed.

I have not invested cash in this market, so I have not lost any money. If I have lost money, it is just that I have missed many good opportunities in the past 2017 and 2021 seasons. This season, I DCA BTC and had some profit, now I continue to monitor the market to learn from experience and wait for opportunities to buy the most potential tokens.

Exactly top coins can give you good return and if once they goes down then there is also a possibility that one day they will go higher to attain its original worth. New and useless coins once goes down then they loss their value forever so I think if you are ignoring top coins and invest in useless coins then it is your fault.

It is also good thing that you learn a lesson by such loss so you will not make the same bad decision again in life. It is obvious that loss and win are a part of life but sometimes we loss just because of our faults and we should learn from it.

You cannot escape losses its part of investing in Cryptocurrency with all the volatility, I suffered huge losses from these Play to earn concept platforms, like Dpet, Axie and AgeofGods I invested in these projects at the time that they were losing their appeal in the market and the prices were crashing its hard to cut your losses on PVE because your investment are stuck on the creatures that you bought, which is why I never buy  coins or tokens that I cannot cut my losses.

If it is related to tokens or tokens that we bought with our own money, in the sense that it is not a gift from some program, then I would say that it is: Lazio and also PSG tokens. If I'm not mistaken, they were the results of the launchpad at Binance. even though I did it with great enthusiasm. But it turns out I was quite late in taking profits and in the end, the token was a complete dump. And what I did was just leave them in my wallet until now. In fact, I haven't had the chance to see how their progress is because I'm not that enthusiastic about doing it.  ;D ;D

In the world of investing, we can always incur losses as it would be impossible to just experience the joy of profits...and since there is no guarantee here losses will always crop up the most important thing is we know when to end the whole thing or cut losses so we don't lost more. As to P2E, many people really got hit by losses when the value of the NFT and tokens they were holding got caught in the whirlwind of downward trajectory after months of extreme growth and frenzy. Sad to say, I also lost some good amount of money here which am sure if I decided then to just stick to BTC or ETH I would probably be a little rich today. I consider projects like these are just attractive shining objects distracting us in our cryptocurrency journey towards financial freedom. I am done with shitcoins, P2E, ponzi and similar fraud-mixed platforms and I am hoping that new entrants to this industry will listen and learn from our bad experiences.

FTX and LUNA are the two coins I invested a lot of money in and investing in these two investment platforms was probably the worst decision for me in the history of investing. So far I have been scammed the most by investing in these two coins. Investing in all other coins may have lost some money but never lost money completely but investing in this coin lost my money completely. These two coins were very popular in the market and there were many chances that these two coins will go well especially LUNA. LUNA was considered by many to be the second Ethereum at the time and I invested in this coin based on the positive reviews and you all know the result.

Yes, I remember very well how it collapsed some time ago, then it became one of the talks that I heard almost every day, yes indeed it was an incident that might not have been thought of before.

It was not just one or two people who suffered losses from this tragedy, but many people were affected and had to lose all their assets in a short time. What surprised everyone was that this project was one of the most trusted before this tragedy happened.

I still remember the Fan token trend in the post-pandemic period and we had many football tournaments. CHZ and Fan tokens have had impressive growth and brought profits to many investors, however I believe that as a rule of the financial market: the majority will suffer losses.

You can deposit LAZIO and PSG tokens to Binance and sell them if you want, as I see they are still listed on Binance.

You are not alone because large number of people have lost money in these project but no one was familiar that it would take place. Because of such loss expert often suggests that don't put huge amount in one or two coins but diversify as more as you can.

The price of LUNA was so higher that everyone was in dream of making huge money through LUNA investment but all remains with empty pocket and empty hands after accepting LUNA as an investment project. I think we should not follow the trend every time but certain top coin can make us profitable instead of trendy coins therefore choose Wisely and don't follow others.

Ah..I remember this project. The CEO is Jonathan Manzi,
They claim Beyond Protocol was started by Silicon Valley-based technologists and they pretend to be better than all the IoT projects that are in crypto, but none of them are here.
They pumped BP up to $61, so there were a lot of new investors coming in and more investors getting scammed. Big Scammer

Sad for your loss...

Terra and FTX are the two biggest scam projects in 2021, also considered the main reason why the crypto market declined so strongly.

Terra was once famous for Chai, UST-LUNA and Do Kwon.
FTX was once famous for Alameda, FTT and Sam BF.

I think their collapse would have a comparable impact to Bitconnect's collapse in 2018, leading to a short-term decline in the entire market before continuing to accumulate and recover.

But thanks to them, many new investors are more wary of algorithmic stable coin models and want to custody their own tokens.

My biggest loss was when buying BNB and I was playing on the futures market on Binance. Yes, a mistake in making a strategy boomeranged for me and it caused the biggest loss. I recklessly shorted BNB with x20 leverage and the assets I used were 80% of my trading fund allocation. What was surprising was that in less than 10 hours, my assets were liquidated and I was quite shocked by this.

This happened in 2021 in September. It really sticks in my mind to this day and I don't want to repeat that mistake again.

Luna was the biggest scam project I ever saw.  Many investors invested in Luna.  And all was lost overnight.  Luna surprised everyone.  It was invested by a friend of mine and I regretted it a lot.  I also wanted to invest in it but thought nothing of it which now helps me breathe a sigh of relief.  Moreover, projectors like FTX are drowning in people's possessions.  They are actually very disappointing.  It is normal that an investor invests a lot of money and the invested money is his hard earned money.  So when a project scam comes out it becomes a cause of great disappointment.

Have you previously read about PSG, SFP and SUN tokens? I could be one of the investors in this project who is certainly still disappointed with the results to date. These three tokens were very popular at that time. And even on Binance, that's a lot of courage. But unfortunately, it won't be as easy as we imagine.

Well, PSG, especially, and the other two tokens experienced a lot of decline over time after the two coins were on the market listing. And after reaching their ATH, they just dropped like that. It's like those who hype shit coins. But I really don't believe it.

So for this reason, it is not recommended to buy tokens based on what has been hyped in the past. I also think that there is still a chance elsewhere. As long as it is still a shit token, all three still exist.

I lost a big investment in FTX. I had so much faith in this project that I never imagined that the project would scam. Because I really liked the FTF exchange. Especially if there were not too many fees at that time to transfer to Ether and transaction fees and the project would have returned to a better position. The collapse of this project had a major impact on the crypto market. I was finally able to withdraw my assets from the exchange that was before restriction. This project is still dreamed of by many, but it remains to be seen how much success it can achieve. But I didn't invest in Luna. The market took a long bearish stance on the collapse of these two projects.

Yes, this event or history cant really be forgotten on which there are tons of investors had burned out their investment in a snap. Surprisingly the current price did make out some increase on which tons of people who have been thought that this is totally dead coin or project but still there are who do tend to invest despite of its disastrous history on which this is something that do give out at least some questions on what the heck is happening? In speaking about my biggest loss then i cant remember totally but mostly not on those known projects but rather
mostly on meme coins and rugpull projects.

I have fatal mistake when investing in top ten altcoin on CMC standing market exactly with Litecoin (LTC), losses more than above  $10k when investing in Litecoin after breaking out the new higher price above $300. First easily to earn much profitable with LTC coins as my trading with short term but I loss internet connection one day in the moment bitcoin crashing drastically and Litecoin dropping more than 40% and seems not good ideas to cut loss.
But after waiting several years not worth yet with LTC and price keep going down, I think never be loyal with some coin and always use stop loss feature around 20% when trading in altcoin although as top standings cmc position.

I know SafePal wallet's SFP token, this project is quite good but the SFP token price has decreased by 95% in the downtrend. I think this is normal because many other tokens also dropped sharply, the market is cyclical and crypto winter will cause the price of most tokens to fall back to their real value.

I know PSG token fans, but don't know SUN. Normally I only dare to invest 1-5% of my capital in small-cap tokens like this to avoid heavy losses.

LTC is a reputable token in the market, although it did not have good growth in the 2021 season. Sorry for the accident that happened to your internet connection at a critical time, I think it is better to place OCO orders in advance is extremely necessary to protect our accounts at times of strong market fluctuations. We always expect good things, but we should not ignore the risks in the market.

What surprised everyone was that this project was one of the most trusted before this tragedy happened.
who will never remember that LUNA? who have victimized millions if not billions of dollars  and thousands of investors all  over the world but lucky that I am not the one that enters this project .

Luna is the worst incident in the history of stable cryptocurrency which made many traders lose money. This incident shows that Cryptocurrency has a very high risk, there are many possibilities that can happen which ultimately make Cryptocurrency a scam, so you must remain alert when you want to invest in cryptocurrency.

This loss really shocked me. I finally understand that we should not put too much trust in any project or individual in this crypto market. Everything can be just a clever play to defraud investors: an exchange that grows too quickly, an individual who becomes famous in a short time... We must be cautious and never Now forget to set stop loss orders in investing.
What happened with FTX and TERRA shows only one thing. Even the top projects can still end up as a scam project. Even those at the top 10 or top 50 can end up scamming us investors.

Let's remember that these 2 projects are at the top 50 in terms of market cap and there's a time where TERRA is on the top 10 as well. Because of what happened with this one, I've become more hesitant to invest in lower market cap coins, but I want to make more profit for this bull run phase hence, I re-allocated my capital, and invested I think half of my capital into different lower market cap coins (what I mean when I say low market cap is those who are at the top 51-100).

I want to hear your unhappy stories in this market:
  • Which project/token inflicted your biggest loss?
  • What percentage and amount did you lose?
  • How did this experience impact your investment journey?
1. Pancakeswap. I bought it for $32 and sold it for $2. I'm dumb with that one I know. :D
2. If my calculations are right, I lost around 94% on that investment with Pancakeswap. I swear I will not touch that shitcoin ever again.
3. It's a huge impact for me TBH, and with that mistake, I learned that I don't need to buy any coins when the bull market starts already. I also learned that whenever I want to buy a coin, I need to wait for it to be in a downtrend before I buy. As long as there's no entry point, I will not buy. I also learned how to use some indicators like MACD, RSI, and MA because of that loss. :)

Don't worry there are many of us here who made the same mistake, including me ;D
Just different coins, but the same story, and the same results.
But we stay here and survive. Even stronger.
I agree that the Bull Market is not a good time to buy, and using some indicators will help us to determine entry and exit points.

Hey, guess what? We're not noobs anymore. It's good news right :)

I have never experienced anything like what happened with FTX to lose a large amount of funds on an exchange platform because there was a major issue that led to the shutdown. But that really became a big issue because many people were really affected because their funds were stuck on the FTX platform.

Until now, I can't think of anything else like what happened in FTX besides that, Mt. Gox, and others. Although that incident taught a great lesson to all the crypto communities here in the crypto space,.

I do not store my coins on exchanges, neither do i buy native tokens of exchanges. The people who lose lots of money in crypto are those who buy a lot of new projects and those who have bad opsec. If you buy BTC, have patience and store your coins safely, you would not lose anything, that is why there are a lot of bitcoiners who do not have any experience of loss.

We have paid a very high price for this lesson: FTX users lost money, and they will be compensated at the bottom price of crypto, which means they will lose about 70% of their asset value (if they only hold BTC). Meanwhile, the whole market is also heavily affected: total cap decreased by 20% after the collapse of FTX, many altcoins continued to halve or divide by 5 after this event when investor confidence was damaged.

I hope we won't have any more events like this. The Proof of Reserves can strengthen the reputation of CEXs and help users feel more secure in the process of using, and self-custody of crypto is also a useful option for us.
