Bad leadership is the fundamental problem of the country I can say ever since Nigeria gained independence from her colonial master it has not gotten any good leader.as they said everything falls down on leadership so no matter how good and blest a place is if it doesn't have a good leader who knows the needs and wants of his society that society can't develop and to a greater extend that's what we have been experiencing in Nigeria, because a country that is so blest with natural and human resources like Nigeria is still struggling with bad roads, no electricity, poor health care system and still depends on European nations to borrow money is a testimony that we have not gotten it right on the area of leadership

Indeed, one can categorically point of basic challenges that are faced in this country as having their roots in leadership that has never understood or valued its people. There is often little development in several vital sectors, even though we are provided with natural resources and wonderful potential in human resources. There are still some critical sectors such as, roads, energy importance, health facilities, and the education sector among others which are still far from decent enough to support a productive economy. As we go on depending on foreign assistance the more important question that stares us, as a country is how to achieve visionary leadership that is oriented towards the achievement of sustainable development, what aims at serving the people, and which guarantees prosperity. But can be realized when the leadership of the country is comprised of individuals who appreciate such needs.

Nigeria is one of the most corrupt countries in the world and all these is as a result of bad governance and it keeps getting worse every time. the government deviates from the necessities of the citizens and most time focuses on irrelevant things like changes in the color of the naira notes, changing the national anthem, and the like of it. Nigeria is one country that is blessed with almost everything, be it natural resources or manpower we have it, even with all these we are still suffering and sometimes dependent on other countries for resources. The infrastructure in Nigeria is as a result of bad governance which i feel if the government are looking into providing the basic needs of the country there will be a very great improvement on the situation of the country. Most times the rulers focus more on their personal gain by extorting economic funds and not doing anything about the situations of the country but keep borrowing from other countries and putting our country in more debt. Nigeria is one country that is suffering greatly because of bad governance and the earlier the government sees to it that we strive in this country the better for all of us.

These elements have enormous potential for growth with large deposits of natural resources and the availability of a talented and hard working population. Addressing these fundamental essential services and infrastructure, we in fact could and should effect change for the improvement of the quality of life of the entire society.
This means that if the government always consider the people as a priority, we are likely to record a change in various aspect. Prudent utilization of resources and cutting our dependence on foreign loans will create a solid path to more sustainable prosperity for all of us.

These natural endowment and people capital offer us a good chance to better the lives of our people. It is the attempt at improving standard services and provision of infrastructure needs that will be seen by all of us. When the government puts people first and controls resources autonomously, we can create sustainable welfare which the foreign loans are not necessary.

To be properly managed, the potential that derives from wealth, natural resources, and a talented population can indeed form the foundation of major advancement. Wise are those who recognize the potential of infrastructure development and basic service facilities: this is the by-work which brings tangible positive changes into the lives of people. That if the government care for the welfare of the people then the fruit of welfare will trickle in other areas. Sustainability and avoiding reliance on foreign credit forms can open a path to shared financial prosperity for all who are striving for it.

This is the worst administration I have ever seen, and despite all the protests youths led, the politicians don't care to improve things for us. Things are becoming worse every day, no market regulation, unstable electricity, poor roads, and rising of fuel prices. I know that our leaders are the root cause of all the issues our nation is facing, but we are also to be blame, and if we don't change, there is no way that our country will be fixed.
Our leaders don't care about us, they are only interested in stealing money from the country to make their families happy. My pain is that, when election time comes now, our leaders will still come to us and give people salt and mudu of rice, and which they will begin to celebrate on the road, shouting their names and vote for them again.

INEC frustrating the effort of Nigerians electorates, police and army plus the judiciary is frustrating the effort of the citizens to select a good leader. Mostly Nigeria Police. In any Democratic society, the citizens have the full right and we can see that in Kano State in 2023 governorship election. After when the people has elected their leader, the court was trying to manipulate the results and gave to another candidate that didn't win the election and the indigenes of Kano protested and things were about got spoiled and they reverse the case.
So I also support those people that are saying police should not be used in the Nigerian election, I support them. And not allowing police to participate in public stores, I support them. And that will be a good message to the other corrupt forces in the government that is oppressing the people.

Anyway, we keep on hoping that our country will be going to a better future, most especially for all the citizens to gain the things they need for their survival.

Bad leadership no good sha and e dey really affect how the economy of the country dey be. the main problem of this country called Nigeria is caused by bad leadership as these so called leaders don't have any human sympathy for the people they are ruling but is only after what they can get from the masses and if we the citizens don't do anything about it we'll continue to wallow in poverty

I don't think that there is anything the citizens can do about it, because it's beyond their power. It's only in a violent way that the youths can approach this problem but who would be the leader. The military is in support of the corruption in the country and that's why they are always backing up the government whenever there is protest by citizens on bad government.

I think the issue of corruption is a global thing, but when it comes to Africa, we are actually number one. You and I know that in majority of the Africa countries, there is no form of accountability. I just did a recent research on the number of coup that has occurred over the years, and surprisingly, Africa holds about half of the number of coup attempts. I believe we are familiar with Gabon. Just imagine a leader leading a country for 42years when we are in a democratic era.
And as for our military not being able to stand for us, well, what do you expect when those in security are being appointed by those in politics. It's just like a referral package, so you don't expect them to stand against those who appointed them.

Corruption and political instabilities are some of the wounds which hinder growth in many of our countries today and weak accountability that most often than not, aggravates the problem. Recurrent staples are outcomes of openly expressed discontent with leadership that no longer supports the people. To this end, we have to mount a campaign that will only see the necessary changes that would usher a more accountable and deserving candidate for such a position in the military and security services. Recognising and supporting what actual democracy – when politicians perform basic roles to represent the general population, time-bound – might be pivotal in bringing back trust and stability into societies.

The root cause of Nigeria's problems lies in its poor governance. Despite being richly endowed with natural resources, the country's leaders have failed to utilize these resources for the benefit of its citizens. Instead, they prioritize personal gain, accumulating wealth that will last their families for generations.
During election campaigns, politicians promise to bring about positive change, but once in office, they fail to deliver. As a result, Nigeria's problems worsen daily, affecting the youth the most. Many young Nigerians are eager to contribute to the country's development, but poor leadership hinders their progress.
If the poor had the means to address Nigeria's problems, they would have done so, if not for anything, then for the sake of their children's future. Unfortunately, many parents struggle to make ends meet, lacking the financial resources to provide basic necessities like education, food, shelter, and clothing.
Despite protests and pleas from citizens, the government remains unresponsive to their needs. The poor continue to suffer, craving basic necessities like food, shelter, clothing, and education. It is imperative for the government to prioritize the welfare of its citizens and work towards creating a better future for all Nigerians.

One of the worst things that has happened to Nigeria as a country is bad leadership it's like a natural disasters that has plague this nation and hold everyone to Ransom, the current economic stagnation that we are currently experiencing is a product of bad leadership and looking at the situation there's no hope because when it's comes to chosing leaders I think the people has no say as the power to choose has been taken away from the masses as corruption has taken over our electoral empire because when it comes to leadership we have not gotten it right that is why we are having problem in virtually all aspects of our country because leadership is what defines every thing

There are some steps towards constructing better future, first of all it is the raising of awareness by the people about the necessity of enhancing integrity of elections. Finally, when people come together with one voice saying no to corruption in its various forms we shall be shopping for leaders who value the welfare of societies. Sometimes all it takes is to provide communities with information about their rights and on the other part making the players in the system to be more transparent. When working together constantly, one is capable to bringing in change that would enable everybody embrace people oriented leadership.

This situation in Nigeria that we find our self is really worrisome as there's no way out yet for the Nation because this bad leader's have hold the entire country to a ransom and just as you have rightly said Even the military has joined these politicians in looting the nation dry , we really need revolution in Nigeria but these bad leader's have really corrupted the mind of many with the same corruption so even the same people that are suffering there's nothing that they can do

Nigeria's leaders are a direct result of the type of elections that are held. Because our elections are not transparent due to the high level of rigging, it is clear that the leaders brought into the system through these faulty means are not development-oriented. In fact, it is now widely assumed that if you want to win an election, you must be willing to buy the judiciary, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and votes, so the results of our elections are not always representative of the people's will.
With this system, finding a good leader will be difficult. A leader who was elected through corrupt means will either be more concerned with protecting the interests of the few people who brought him into power, or he will attempt to siphon funds from the national treasury in order to recoup all of the money spent during his campaign. As a result, our educational system, health-care facilities, economy, and public infrastructure are in poor condition. Thus, if we are to have a good leader in Nigeria, we must begin with the process that brings these leaders to power.

Your right because when it comes to choosing who becomes an elected government officials who will lead the masses to the needed place and direction there's no place where the people has hard their say as election in the Country is won on the grounds of turn by turn and rigging so basically speaking The Best rigger and the one with the highest and biggest bag of money will win not the choice of the people as those with big bag of money will buy everything from the masses and even the so called INEC

Bad leadership is seen to the blind, audible to the deaf, felt by toddlers and spoken about by the dumb.
As terrible as it may sound, bad leadership is directly responsible for the underdevelopment, educational backwardness, dilapidated health facilities and uncondusive learning environment.
Leaders at all levels in Nigeria have failed willfully to live up to expectations

I agree with you to a large extent. Every country's leadership plays a critical role in driving development. Due to poor leadership, we have not yet caught up to the First World countries. Here, leaders prioritize their own interests over the welfare of the general populace.
This mindset of leaders demonstrates why it is challenging for them to implement policies that will lead to a good life and pursue developmental projects. Because they want to keep the majority of the funds for themselves, even when funding is approved for worthwhile projects, the execution is always flawed or of poor quality.

The main problem of our leaders is just greed to accumulate more wealth for them self and future generations that is why they don't have the people at heart and the only thing that they see is embezzlement of funds ment for the development of the society and we can develop in such an environment because we have not gotten it right when it comes to leadership because the level of development that any country is s now is a function of the quality of leadership that the country has produced over the years

We play money politics, with the highest bidder winning it all. When these leaders spend so much money during the election campaign and eventually win, their first goal is not to bring development to the country, but rather to accumulate all of the money spent as you mentioned, and even more, because most of these politicians believe that once it is your turn, gather as much as you can because opportunity only comes once.
This is why, over the years they will be in leadership, they will make massive investments, save a lot of money in Swiss banks, and direct the majority of their development projects to their communities in order to attract chieftaincy titles. This way of doing things will only end if money is not used to influence the election process.

money to influence the elections is the first things all politicians with bad intentions really do, they want to accumulate all they put into the election to win and that really breaks down our promises they made to us citizens and forget all what they promised. I don’t really thinks this money influence of a thing would stop in Nigerian very soon cause even the upcoming generations are seeing what the elders are doing and they haven’t been in the position yet but planning on how to steal a lot of valuable assets in the politics.
We citizen are also a problem too, we all are after the big bags, truth to be told the Nigerian citizens are not trying against election at all we sold our votes to many leader willing to provide our needs at that time and forget about the future. All we are to pray for is better governance and good health. Someone that will make a lot of difference for our country and bring about peace everywhere in the nation.

I agree with you because one of the reasons that we are having this kind of leadership style is the way and manner that we conduct our elections in the country there's no room for a free and fair process it's always winner takes it all that is why these politicians do everything within their rich to make sure that they win the election, so after spending much money on the election process it's only natural that they get back what they have spent by way of embezzlement of the public funds

That is precisely why some parts of the country with a larger number of people are left in severe poverty since it is easier to control the poor by providing them with money and food in exchange for their votes. The northern part of Nigeria plays an important role in determining who will be the next President because it has the most voters and high illiteracy and are easily controlled.
We will continue to have bad elected officials unless we stop selling our votes and limit voting to a select few people.

what you're saying is the truth but in reality it can't be done or achieved in this our present day Nigeria because of the high level of poverty that exists in country people prefer to sell their vote's to eat for a while and remain hungry for the rest of the years that that government will be in power

Poverty is unquestionably a tool for social control. It is said that whoever pays the piper dictates the tunes. Most people compromise because they no longer think with their heads but rather with their stomachs, and they will easily compromise if given food and money, as you mentioned. This explains why, as soon as these people are given food, they forget about their problems and vote for the person who gave them the food, failing to realize that such gestures will not continue as long as this politician remains in power.
The leaders are aware of this, which is why they always ensure that the majority of the people remain poor, so that those poor people can be used to further their selfish interests by bringing them to power. They would rather carry out substandard projects than create jobs for people. Even when they do empowerment programmes, they do so in such a way that these people continue to rely on them because the funds available for empowerment are insufficient to transform an individual.

This is a common format for greedy and corrupt African leaders that want to stay in power for far too long, they try as much as possible to make sure the leave the people in poverty - whoever feeds you controls you. It works for them everytime.
I like the idea of limiting only some certain group/class of citizens to decide/Vote on who to become the president, the general election thing is always going to favor the corrupt politicians since we have more illiteracy rate in Nigeria, these groups of people are vulnerable and are easily manipulated.
If few educated set of people votes, they're going to make a better choice than the whole 200m population.

Even a few people can be manipulated because we as a society are not yet prepared to do the right thing. People only criticize the system when they do not benefit from it; once they do, they support it and stop criticizing it. The scenario of delegates voting shows that even if only a few educated people are allowed to vote, much will not be accomplished. Delegates are also influenced by their godfathers and money.
We need statesmen who will prioritize the next generation over the next election. When people think about more than their own personal gain, we can begin to consider the need for those few people to decide who will govern us because we can be certain that they cannot be easily manipulated because they have the people's best interests at heart, except this nothing will be changed if voting is limited to a specific class of citizens, as you mentioned.

It will not completely eliminate corruption in the system because whatever can be abused will be abused, but it will reduce underage voting and voter inflation from the north, as well as provide each state equal voting power.

One thing that needs to be addressed before we can even stop bad leadership in Nigeria is the issue of poverty because poverty is one great factor that is making people not to stand up against the incumbent system that we currently have because these politicians have used poverty as a toll to control and regulate Nigerian
So nigerian will not be thinking about bringing a change in government but will be more concerned about eating in so doing these same bad leaders still remains in power

I got your point but then the question is what is the cause of poverty? It can be attributed to bad leadership and so as long as the leadership is bad then poverty will continue. Programmes and policies that would help to alleviate poverty are not implemented and even when they are implemented it is done haphazardly.
Thus, you cannot address poverty first before bad leadership because it is the leadership that will change the poverty situation of the county and so there is need for leaders to change their mindset about the state resources because this paradigm shift in their thought will bring the wind of change in the country and poverty will drastically reduce because people oriented policies and programmes will be implemented.

So how will poor people who don't have the needed resources stand up and fight against bad leadership it's nearly impossible because the political class has reduced the rest of the poor society to their slaves and every day the poverty line is increasing so it will be difficult for the poor who are weak economically to fight against bad leadership in the country currently

The poor practically have no say of theirs and that's the more reason why the easily fumble on different government decisions the fact is government decisions affect the poor the most especially the wrong decisions. Check for example the effect of inflation on the country you find out that the people that get affected by all these things are basically those that are struggling to earn a living.
Leadership matters a lot and is what tells how progressive and economy will be and how safe the citizens will be. The better the leadership of a country the more patriotic its citizens will definitely be.

The problem of this country started when the fight for independence started, and since then, the economy has been struggling. With close observations, it is noticed that during the military regime, there was employment opportunities, cause different industries and companies were in the country. But since the insertion of Democratic government leadership in the country, the problem of insecurity started which affected the foreigners in the country to fley, and those companies back loaded themselves out. Instead of more companies and industries to come into the country for business, the ones already in the country left, creating room for unemployment in the society. And when there's unemployment, different things starts happening.

When there is flow of money within and into the country, then we can start talking of poverty alleviation, but when there is no flow of money, but rather hording the money and stocking them up in a room somewhere without flow of cash in the daily activities will only make things more difficult for every civilians of the country.
The poverty rate in Nigeria is only on those who are not doing anything, causes if there be anything one is doing, there is a chance of leaving the poverty line. If everyone is working, either in an office or self employed, and the cash flow system in the country is moderate, then there won't be issues.
The growth and development of the country is in the hands of the political leaders of the country, if they will permit the flow of cash, and stop stealing from the country's Treasury, there will be a very great improvement in the country.

We should not be discussing the fight against independence when it comes to unemployment. We have abundant resources that can help to alleviate the country's poverty. We should think about moving forward as a country rather than blaming the past for anything.
If we consider the fight against independence to be our problem, what will happen to other countries that have achieved independence and are still developing? Leadership has always been a problem, and it is unfortunate that each new leader is unwilling to change the narrative, preferring to follow suit and profit from the country's treasury.

What I meant talking about the independence is that the motive for the fight for independence was not a pure motive. The first sets of corrupt leaders took up the fight, and immediately after independence, military cub for over taking which were for self motive.
If the leadership had been completely on a selfless motive from the first leaders, the following will take suite. Godfather is a major canker worm that eats up every aspiring leaders, and for you to be accepted, you must obey and play along.

Indeed we have not really gotten it right when it comes to leadership in our country. This has got me thinking if this country offended anybody in the past or what because I have been wondering this whole time after independence from our colonial master, it even became worse than it was then that a very rich nation endowed with natural resources and human capacity is still wallowing in abject poverty and economic chaos. Our leadership is even the worst sets of individuals that only care and think about themselves, it is just like a stinking smell that has polluted the environment making it unbreathable for her inhabitants.

Sadly, we have leaders who only think about the next election and not the next generation. We have leaders who spend their time strategizing how to win the next election but never sit down to strategize how to move the country forward. People who have not ascended to a leadership position already have the skewed belief that it is a way to earn money, so when they do, they view it as a dream come true.
It is terrible that leadership has been called a "turn-by-turn" thing. When you get to the position is your turn to amass wealth. This is their main concern, which is why they only embezzle public funds and do nothing else for the nation.

what you're saying is the truth but in reality it can't be done or achieved in this our present day Nigeria because of the high level of poverty that exists in country people prefer to sell their vote's to eat for a while and remain hungry for the rest of the years that that government will be in power
Exactly, voting is our right as a citizen of Nigeria. And selling our vote is like selling our rights. If a citizen sold his or her right there is nothing left again. Because if someone come out as a candidate to apply for a particular position, and you elect the person because of what he is sharing or the money he is giving to the people, what will you expect the person to do when he get into power, he has been calculating every single amount he spent on the people during campaign, and he will remove all the money after he has succeeded in getting what he wanted and he will continue gathering money for his upcoming generations. And the citizens will suffer till the end of the person's regime.

This is the sad reality, but the truth is that even if you decide not to sell your vote, other citizens will because they have no choice but to do so. A person in need of bread is likely to accept any offer that will provide him with bread. This is why the government has always wanted to make people dependent on them by keeping them poor.
On second thought, even if all citizens decide to stand firm and refuse to sell their votes, the government will still sponsor thugs to steal ballot boxes or even pay INEC to write election results, and when these results are challenged in court, judges are also bribed. So it is difficult to prevent these power-hungry politicians from winning.

Electorates coming out to vote on election day is just a formality and to fulfill all form of righteousness. The winner of every election has already been chosen by the power that be so there is nothing anybody can do about it. The level of corruption, electoral fraud and malpractice is something else and the judicial system is so messed up that the judiciary is in their pockets and our judges can not do otherwise. What a country.

Omo na true ooo from pass history now there have been number of bad rulers in Nigeria who refuse to die. From military dictatorship to corrupt civilian government, we don do taya to make sure say we get good leader al effort wasted, one example of bad ruler sani abacha, when rule Nigeria from 1993 to 1998. Abacha is a wide corruption and human rights abuses, anhe has stolen billions of dollars from Nigeria treasure. Wetin you think about the current government now ? However another way when bad rulers dey operate na the way them dey handle the Nigeria economy. Nobody dey see how the money dey move no evidence of what was done. Many rulers have pursued policies that's have lead to the inflation and cause a week currency. This way don make thing hard for ordinary people. For someone to afford a basic commodity is a big problem, that has discouraged economic growth.
Sincerely speaking I doubt if Nigeria can ever have a good ruler, this is because those who are good with a clear heart and conscience will never be allowed into power or smell it. Nigerian is mainly practicing selection rather than elections and this will only keep bringing in those have been well fed from the garden of evil and wickedness to succeed the bad once. I really pray for the betterment of our country 9ja.
