Title: Moderators in forum
Post by: notblox1 on April 20, 2024, 10:33:29 PM
If it is not a secret I would like to know who are all the active moderators and admins in altcoinstalks forum?
I can see some boards are showing moderators but I am not sure if they are all active in forum.

Is there any need for hiring new moderators for some board, and what positions are open for application?

I quote you part of what @freemind mentioned
what I am saying is that everything has a process of monitoring and following up on candidate users. After that time, @hair and I will propose new moderators (local and global) for the administrator to award the badge to the new moderators.
As for local mods, old mods have been removed and a large part of them were replaced, but for most of the forum boards, there is no real changes have occurred. So if you want to be a mod, post here ----> Applying to be modrator (https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=230.0) they will review your activity, board's activity, old mod activity and then decide whether need to take action or not.

The forum moderators are known users, there are no "hidden" moderators or anything like that. A few weeks ago some inactive moderators were relieved of their positions and new ones were appointed, especially local moderators, these types of moderators are the ones most needed on the forum now. New moderators will be appointed in the next two to three weeks. @hair and I are finalizing the list of possible candidates. When the time comes we will notify the administrator to grant the badges and privileges. After that period of time and the election of new local moderators, we will look for candidates for modz and global moderators.

I dont know them  ;D
If they are not hidden can you give us the list of currently active moderators and potential candidates? And is this all free or paid positions like in bitcontalk forum?
I am interested to see what happens in next forum elections, and voting could be interesting.

When I finish making the list of the new moderators that we are going to propose, I will try to write a post with all the forum moderators, active and inactive, although it will take me some time. No, the moderator position is not paid on this forum, local moderators, modz and global moderators are not paid.

The next elections are not far away, a little more patience and we will see what happens.

Thank you.
I think moderators could receive small alt token payments in this forum as additional motivation to do their work better.
This can be in form of airdrop or more stuff unlocked in forum.

Can regular members like me vote and how?

The moderators receive tokens from the forum from time to time, but I meant that they don't pay us monthly (although I don't know how often they do this) like they do, for example, on BTT. In any case, personally it is a topic that does not worry me, since I have not even stopped to think about it after the years I have been on this forum.

The answer to your question is no. Not everyone can vote when electing a new president.

Who can vote than?
Is this some closed circle of moderators, admins and managers in forum?
If you guys want to make forum really more decentralized than voting should include more members, starting with higher ranked active members.

In reality, that's right, it is a "small" closed circle (moderators, judges, administrator and some more), which from the beginning of the forum decides by vote who would be president and vice president.

Your suggestion (you can write a thread about it in the corresponding subforum if you want) I don't know to what extent it could be carried out. As you know since the arrival of the mixers, and many users, the forum has seen quite a few changes, listening to suggestions from users, but I don't know if the administrator would be willing to open voting. But logically I could be wrong.

When most people migrated or teleported from other forums, in many boards the moderators were inactive so many were changed during the early months in 2024 and by now all boards have moderators and I think the president, vice president and the admin should be the global moderators for now and as the forum is developing daily more moderators will be needed.

It depends on the reports and spam rate, I don't see any growth in spam on the forum except for SEO SPAM and some zero quality posts so maybe adding 1-3 global moderators who were more active in reports last year would be good.

I realise this is an older topic, so won't comment on the forum President discussion only to say there is a topic with the details in forum announcements.

As for more GMs, we need more reports not more GMs. Reports are too few overall, far below the reporting rate required for better spam controls. They are otherwise handled within a few hours usually, often mere minutes, with no backlog or major issues.

The forum will ultimately only be as clean as the users who request that we get the mod mop out. Theres currently a bunch of us always dealing with them, across all languages, so there's not a lot anyone new would bring us here, apart less work that is already well managed.

As an update have published list of global mods for reference sake. When you see the credentials of GMs it should be clear why we don't have a shortage right now  8)

List of Global Moderators. Profiles correct as of 6th Presidency (https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=148614.0), April 2025.

It's good to see that 8 members handle 95% of ALTT reports.
I wish you the best of luck, good work you're doing.

To be honest we are over reliant on GMs for moderating. Ideally we'd have more jnr/section mods and were instead responsible for more supervising rather than moderating. But can't really complain as it works for now and the team is stable at the moment. I also realise that as there are only roughly half of us that post in English-speaking sections, it can easily be overlooked that we have a Padawan Oversight Committee as well ;D

And soon, as the GM with the least activity, I will be the only one that hasn't reached Mythical yet  :'(
