A diminutive Japanese dog who became the face of Dogecoin has died.

Kabosu, who inspired the viral Doge meme and became the face of the satirical cryptocurrency championed by Elon Musk, passed away on Friday at the age of 18, her owner said.

The Shiba Inu had been seriously ill with liver disease and leukemia since 2022.

"To all of you who loved Kabosu — on the morning of the 24th of May, Kabosu crossed the rainbow bridge," Kabosu's owner, Atsuko Sato, wrote on Instagram.

I am sure that the story and journey of Dogecoin would never be more colorful, exciting and enigmatic without the character of Kabosu, the Shiba Inu, who has been the face of Dogecoin since we can remember. Now, would this be an omen for Dogecoin of a lot better to come or do you think this can signal of something gloomy for its future? At any rate, I am sure we owe this famous dog some good level of gratitude and appreciation and may its "soul" rest in peace in dog's heaven...

The deeds has already been done, now is for time to know what next to do or expect, but i will have to emphasize on this that its all about the coin developed and the adoption rate than he himself, just as we all have bitcoin and none ever know who is the real Satoshi, doge will remain even after Kabosu departure, the people will continue to use it and also may be the reason why it can get to afford reaching its new all time high anytime soon.

I did not know the dog's name up until today, but the dog probably lived a more fulfilled life than some people ever will, and he most likely did not know. He will be remembered as long as the coin continues to exist.

Rest well, four legged fellow! you left a legacy, and will be remembered in history as the most popular animal in cryptocurrency.

Dogecoin attained its highest popularity before he died, I thought Dogecoin was headed to oblivion because it was not getting attention four years ago until Elon Musk pumped it, many investors benefited from this pump, and with that, the meme coin started.

Kabosu will always be in our hearts the first meme coin and the one that started this trend ad I think this trend will take some time before it lasts, the meme communities are still growing.

To be honest I did not know before that the dogecoin icon has been taken from a real-life dog, although I did hear about it a long time ago maybe I was not into crypto then well, I am not so much interested in meme coins maybe that's why I never heard or read about it. Well, its a sad thing. BTW did the owner of this dog make any money due to the fame or not? I think he did not as I have seen many carbon copies of this dog breed on the internet till now before knowing this fact. And now I think that's why I never believed it.

Well, this event will give rise to more meme tokens, and they will probably going to use the kabosu icon and put a golden ring on her head. We will definitely going to see this meme coin and this will also get a lot of trading volume as well. BTW will Elon talk about it again or he will leave this token for eternity? And will find another one!

here I finally found curiosity about Kabosu, who is on the altcointalk label, also saddened by the passing of the doge and shiba inu icons,
hope doge doesn't become history in crypto following its iconic dog, hopefully doge remains the number 1 meme coin and can provide better investment value than now,

Same here, I'm not aware who are the dog's name that is the images of face of Dogecoin until I heard the news about the dogs death. The only famous dog I know is Hachiko,  ;D.

In any case, I don't know if there's another dog that can replace the original. Although they can look for another one as each dog bare resemblance, the original will always be the standout and for sure Kabosu will not be forgotten amongst Doge and crypto enthusiast.

As long as DOGE will be as popular as it is right now, for sure that doggy will not be forgotten.
If I remember correctly, the doggy has been ill for months already, and he surely lives a happy life with his owner.

No one can replace the Original. No one can replace the OG meme coin and when somebody talks about DOGE, I hope that more will also remember the famous dog that's the picture of the coin. As a dog-lover, I feel sad when I saw this, but that's how life is. You live, you die.
