Okay it's the last Friday of May so let's have a light-hearted thread here. Don't know about you, but I've personally always found it funny how new narratives consistently pop up in crypto and then die out before we get to see anything worthwhile come off of them. When I first joined this industry in 2021, first came the Metaverse (virtual reality) with all its promises, then Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) became the next big thing, capturing the public's imagination with the potential of digital ownership and provable scarcity. However, the hype around NFTs quickly faded.
Next came Mixed Reality (MR) and the idea of blending the physical and digital worlds, but this too has yet to gain widespread traction and adoption. And now today I heard about Mixed Reality Infrastructure Network (MR-DePIN), the latest buzzword-compliant crypto narrative making the rounds. To be honest, I didn't bother checking what this one is or which big names are involved this time.
But something tells me we havent seen the last of these. It will be interesting to see the next big thing is that the crypto community latches onto. Will it be quantum-resistant blockchain technology?LOL

We keep seeing new inventions, innovation, improvements and protocols each time and that is how the whole process will continue for now, one thing that i know which cannot be compromised is bitcoin and its network, we should also make sure that we are not left out of the narratives of the event and activities in crypto happenings with the use of advance technologies.

Quantum computers might not be a harm to blockchain technology. For many reasons, if they would have then there are quantum computers in place that have done nothing to BTC or blockchain technology yet. Overall, I think they lack the knowledge or optimization to do that or these quantum computers are just beta versions at the moment, I mean they don't have sophisticated UI as Windows or other GUIs have. And speaking of narrative I think socifi is the current hyped narrative, and before that it was AI.
AI still has a chance, but the next big thing I am seeing is the implementation of AI into computational power, like the combination of both of maybe both as separate narratives. Many will say the hype of AI is over but I think otherwise, I think it's just getting started and we will see this hype along with other relevant narratives. I also joined the crypto sphere 2021, and I also experienced the hype of Metaverse and NFT as I wrote too many articles on these narratives.

OP, I like the fact that you were able to categorically list the phases of Crypto development since it's inception. You see, these are the things that keeps the industry going. There are always phases and stages of development in every thing that has to do with innovation. These phases keeps it relevant in the world and that leads to many discoveries and inventions in the world as the case may be.
Hopefully after this stage in the industry in which you have mentioned , I strongly believe that another would emanate to suit the current situation and so will the trend continue till another innovation that complements this one evolved.

Will it be quantum-resistant blockchain technology?LOL
I remember reading some projects pitch that idea in 2022 or so. I can't remember the exact details but the idea does not seem too catchy at that time. If anything, I believe old ideas like NFT will get another cycle of hype again just like what happened with meme tokens. It's not hard to imagine how easy it is for one or two influencers to drop a tweet and start another parabolic move if the market is bullish. After all any idea sounds amazing when the market is green. I also recall hearing about RWA just two months ago or so, which is just a rebrand of another old idea afaik.

We are in an industry that is ever-changing and everyday we are seeing an avalanche of many new ideas (with many also just rehashed and packaged differently) that are looking for adoption, traction and of course money but many of them will just fade away and be good for good and in fact many people seem to be experts in introducing new things and have entice the market for possible investments only to find that they are just supporting nothing but hollow tubes that may not be able to carry some water. I heard many good things on DePIN and looking at it there is a big potential with the idea though of course projects along that line may just be there to take advantage of the possible hype. This is one big problem in our industry...we don't for sure which of the players are really good enough to trust and which are just here for the money.

Did anybody saw that ICO's will be the narrative before it happened in 2017?
Did anybody saw that DeFi's were a thing before it happened in 2018?
Did anybody saw that NFT's and Metaverse will become a thing and will get hyped before it happened in 2021?
I bet there's nobody.
My point is nobody knows what category the narrative in the future will be. Nobody expected that AI coins will emerge (even though they aren't related to AI at all, but they are just using the word "AI" to increase their popularity", but it happens. There's a chance that what OP said might be the narrative in the next years. Who knows we might see another version of meme coins in the future or maybe we might see a combination of Gaming and Meme coin in the future. Maybe we might see another version of ICO's in the future.
What I know is that the industry is growing and as years pass by, more and more projects of different categories emerge. That's what makes the whole crypto space exciting. :D

Not yet, we haven't heard quantum computing breaking any of the blockchain, or at least Bitcoin. So this is not going to happen in the next 10 years or so. But if you talk about the hype right now, it will still be AI or the Metaverse.
We've seen a lot of projects already in terms of AI related and even big technological companies are talking about it. And how many AI tools do we have in the space right now? Plenty of them that in every problem that we think, there's already a AI based that handles it. So in crypto, it could be the same as well, AI will be the next trend.
-
I would conclude from all this that such projects are not created because they have meaning and purpose, but because someone is trying to make money by selling the next big thing - and in fact, out of a hundred such projects, maybe one or two will survive and achieve success.
I don't wonder what's next, because there are too many people who obviously have too much money to waste it on such things - and as long as it's like that, someone will think that that money should be taken from them. I've never invested anything in such things, and frankly I'm not interested in it - I've seen hundreds of "promising" projects over the years, most of which disappeared as if they never existed.

The crypto space is an ever-evolving ecosystem, and we'll keep seeing new narratives. However, some ideas are here to stay, like RWA. Additionally, there are many serious projects in the MR-DePIN narrative, such as DeMR (one of the top trends on CoinGecko this week). So you should DYOR, and I'm sure if you're a sucker for new innovations, you'll find it exciting. 🚀

I still remember how NFTs were slowly penetrated into the minds of investors and today, nobody gives a damn about the anymore. I don't know if I'm the onlyone who never like NFTs ideas from the beginning but I know for fact that things are just waste of money and resources. Justin Bieber NFTs investment made news back then and all are now useless.
Influencers are the cause of this unnecessary narratives and because of money, people will believe what they want to believe and you can't change their mind unless they see the final destination of what they believe in.

Those new narratives are what makes the crypto space interesting because greedy people will always fall victim for it. I have never bothered of them because one lesson that I have learnt is not to get carried away with new narratives and only invest in bitcoin, because bitcoin has come to stay and not on project that will not last long in the market. Many more will still come out in future but they will always disappear as usual.

So we need to be ready for any narrative that will happen and not be carried away by the flow of the new narrative.
Don't get too greedy for all sorts of reasons, staying in bitcoin is the best path and not investing in new, obscure altcoins.
Bitcoin will survive for any time and become a profitable investment.

its hard to see what narrative is coming, there are so much being marketed to us every time we login to social media and on the forums. this coming bull run though is likely powered by the election so its going to involve politics but will be combined with memecoins. ;D
meme of the day. Biden's Grin.

Lol, think of me, I have been here since 2013 and I have seen so many trends come and go. I do understand some people may feel it shocked when they see this, but the reality is that we are going to see many more trends come and go as well. Thats just how the market works and we shouldn't really be shocked about it, because we keep seeing it and the market keeps on seeing it like that. I hope that people can see that trends are temporary. The situation is that we can't really stop them, so we should be aware of the situation and make sure we do not stay for too long in any of the trends.
-
Well if you were looking at the news recently you would see that all the hype (around shitcoins) was "AI coins", "GPT coins", that that sort of silly stuff.
The narrative only dictates what kind of coins are going to pump - temporarily, before dumping when the next narrative comes along and pumps something else.
-
Have you heard phrase "Everything old is new again"? So i expect we'll get either modified or rebrand of old-stuff, along with "integrating" current technology trend into cryptocurrency or blockchain. Ordinal/Rune are modification of NFT and currently some new project use "AI" word for their marketing.

I also think that old trends will come back but more successfully and stably, for example Layer-1, Layer-2, GameFi, NFT, Metaverse, Oracle, Memecoins..., at the same time we will have new trends such as SocialFi, Restaking, AI, RWA... The crypto market has enough room for all potential trends that are of interest to investors.
Quantum-resistant blockchain technology was once a hot topic in the bullrun 2017, but most of the projects in this trend have disappeared and I haven't heard anything about them anymore. Perhaps the threat of quantum computers to blockchain has been overblown and has caused many ICO investors to lose heavily. I don't expect them to come back. In this cycle, I want to see more blockchain projects that can participate in serving the real needs of users like Ripple and Chainlink can replace SWIFT or SocialFi can compete with Facebook and Twitter.

true. when all the stuff are done and they even try that RWA, not sure if its even going to be a success. but every bull run all the narrative will work as long as they hype something a simple step even when its not really considered a milestone. so reviving anything including the usecase and privacy feature will still work.
all those narrative before the ETFs are still working progress. even the Defi that somehow looks scammy, the projects still exist.

I think what is currently being brought up is related to AI projects. Whatever the name, many people mention it all. And in the end, it's the same, whether the project will be successful or not, the proof is that it's just hype for a while and then it seems to disappear.
I really remember about NFTs and Metaverse projects, even more and more celebrities in my country have also created their NFTs and Metaverse projects, but they failed and I don't know where it ends now.

Few of those might end up success or stable, assuming they actually want to create working product rather than money grab. But we know most of such project is just money grab.

I remember such trend, where at that time i already think it'll fail since existing coin can just add new technology. Anyway. CMC have category for quantum resistant coin and https://coinmarketcap.com/view/quantum-resistant/ (https://coinmarketcap.com/view/quantum-resistant/). But since it only list 7 coin, it seems the list isn't complete or many of such coin already die.
