At age 40+, I started having problem reading text on mobile phone and books. Other than getting a pair of glasses, is there any effective exercise to improve the eye sight condition?
-
Not really. It is simply the aging process at work. You can check to see you have a good diet. Wear sunglasses in bright sunny places.
here is an article you could try

my bro-in-law did the bates method describe here for years. I would say it delayed the issues for a few years. But he needed glasses for reading eventually.

There are many means through which we can use to improve the quality vision of our eyes functionality, the first we must consider to start with is from what we eat, we have to watch our diet and monitor the balance in them, we cannot afford to take what will constitute danger to the clear vision of our eyes by feeding on inappropriate balance diet from what e eat, henceforth, we must balance our diet with fruits and vegetables rich in nutrients that improves for eye vision.

Don't stay too close to your TV set or computer, make sure you always rest your eyes every 20 minutes.
Focus on near and far objects from different angles for some minutes each day.
Sleep early and don't stress your eyes by staying awake all through the night.
Blink your eyes and focus on things in from of you at intervals.

First of all you should take the advice of an eye specialist and take some necessary medicine if necessary. My personal advice is to eat foods rich in nutrients that help improve eyesight. Eat plenty of green vegetables and small fish. You should rest your eyes for some time and reduce the use of mobile phone or laptop for this. Also if the doctor advises you to use glasses, then follow it. However the only bad reaction to eye sight is using a mobile phone or computer.

So sorry about your experience. For this to have happened then it means you have stressed your eyes alot back your young age possibly you had a lot of encounters that warranted this eye problem to have come up now. As it is that the eyes are very much delicate and sensitive part of the body, o will advise you do not administer self care. Do not wear glasses not recommended by an optometrist.
Go see an optometrist for further examination so as to properly diagnose and make recommendations for you. If possible you could ask the optometrist to recommend meals good for eye sight so that you could buy them and eat them accordingly. I believe that this could help you a little.
Avoid having direct eye contact with bright light. Do not stress your eyes too much because that kills the eye lense more quickly since you are advanced.

Of course there is and this is proven from my personal life. Because like you, I was suddenly seeing less in my eyes but by following some rules and eating nutritious food my eye problems have reduced a lot. There are foods that will help boost your eye power like such as small fish, and plenty of vegetables. Moreover daily use of mobile phone or computer should be reduced. Because mobile or computer light is very harmful to your eyes. According to me following all these things will improve your eyesight.

Improving your eyesight while your aging is impossible. You can delay it, but you can't prevent it.
Having a healthy diet and wearing eyeglasses would be your best option.
I've been working and playing MMORPG games in front of a computer for more than a decade already (ever since I was in grade school), and luckily for me, I don't need reading glasses to read properly. What am I doing is that I'm still blinking even though I'm in front of a computer, and whenever I use it, I always make sure that there's a bright light around my room. The problem with most why they need a pair of glasses at a young age is that they are focused on their gadgets that they forget to blink. Not having a bright light around you can also destroy your eyesight as well.
Going to an eye expert on a yearly basis would help you improve your eyesight condition but having a pair of glasses for a 40+ old man would be necessary already.

Well, other than getting some glasses or contact lenses, there are some eye exercises that I came across on the internet sometime ago which may just be of help. you can attempt to roll your eyes around in circles as if you are looking behind your scalp or Keep your eye on something nearby then shift your gaze to something far off. It’s like your eyes had their own mini workout! And, you know, even the simple action like massaging your eyes a bit can be quite effective. Just be really careful, don’t go hard on them! You can also try using your palm to cover them for a while, this be helpful, like going on a short eye-vacation! And just to clarify, these exercises aren’t going to make you have 20/20 vision or something; however, they can surely be beneficial. So the best thing to do would obviously be to consult an eye doctor so that he might recommend to you some good things for your eyes.

You can't do anything about it mate, it's part of the process, once you go over 40+ years old, your eyes started to take the brunt and wear and tear and if you have medical condition like diabetes, it will just speed off the process.
Just get your eyes check and get a pair of glasses, don't strain them and just take a rest if you eyes feel tired.

I practice Trataka a yoga form of candle gazing its good to not only exercise the eyes but also to have a good memory and improve your concentration, this is very easy to do here is the instruction
Find your optimal time of day when you won't be disturbed—a dark, quiet space, dim light with no interruptions.
Light a candle and sit. Your candle should be at eye level to prevent any body strain and at least an arm's length away.
Sit straight and settle into a comfortable position. Some use a cross-legged position. Begin with closed eyes, breathing deeply, and sinking into your body. Feel the rising of any intentions that need to be seen for this particular meditation. Deep breath.
Set a timer for 1 minute to start with (this can increase over time but it doesn't have to be for a long time).
Allow your central gaze to gently rest upon the single visual point of focus and let the image of the flame of the candle fill your mind and your breath.

This is very interesting as this is my first time to hear such a term Trataka which can be of big help for the health of eyes and achieving focus, among other many healthy benefits. I searched Google for it...and I am impressed as it is simple and easy to do. I am also now suffering from weakened eyes due to years of blue light exposure (from laptop and smartphone) and this might help me gain back what I lost. I am just wondering: what kind of a candle should I be using...would an ordinary one available in sari-sari store would do or should I buy those fancy candles with herbs or scents added? Here is a good YT video I find on Trataka...just sharing it here.

Eye exercises can only help prevent fatigue in your eyes but won't help improve your vision you must visit an ophthalmologist to get your eyes checked and get corrective lenses or what the doctor wants you to do to help your eyes. If you notice changes in your vision, or experience discomfort, or symptoms of eye disease, it is important to seek professional advice.

Make 80% of your diet vegetables and vitamin A, you should also use a proper lighting environment when watching TV or using your phone/PC. Wear sunglasses during the day time. I think you will get the best thing to do if you visit an optician, I am only saying those ones I mentioned on my own.

i don’t fully believe some eye exercises actually work so it’s better to instead let yourself learn some habits that can prevent the worsening of your vision for example taking breaks from looking at your screens and limiting the amount of hours you are facing a device
make sure to also incorporate nutritious food that can be good for your eyes like leafy vegetables or citrus fruits as advised of your doctor take in your vitamin supplements regularly as well

In my experience, exercises like focusing on near and distant objects and practicing the 20-20-20 rule helped reduce eye strain. Additionally, maintaining good lighting and taking breaks from screens made a noticeable difference.

I completely understand your concern. Many people start experiencing similar issues around that age. While getting a pair of reading glasses is the most straightforward solution, there are some exercises that might help improve your eyesight or at least reduce eye strain:
1. 20-20-20 Rule: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.
2. Palming: Rub your hands together to warm them up and then place them gently over your closed eyes for a couple of minutes. This can help relax your eye muscles.
3. Focus Change: Hold a pen or finger close to your nose and slowly move it away while keeping it in focus. Then, shift your focus to something farther away.
4. Eye Rolling: Slowly roll your eyes in circles, first clockwise and then counterclockwise.
These exercises won't replace glasses if you need them, but can be beneficial for overall eye health. It might also be worth visiting an eye specialist to get personalized advice based on your specific condition.
Hope this helps!

There is also a possible relationship between alcohol and eye problems. If you are and have been a long-term consumer of alcohol in heavy quantities, you may want to start to reconsider that because it can actually contribute to eye problems.

There's no exercise that one can actually do to keep the eye effective as it beyond your control but on your part you can only take responsibility for your general health and well-being which will impact on the quality of your vision when you're getting old, practice such as dirt can have a great influence on individual vision, people who eats more of vegetables and fruits are more likely to have a good and functional eye sight as these vegetables and fruits contain vitamin which is needed for a good eye sight when ageing
