WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has confirmed that they would approve Manny Pacquiao fighting Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight world title at age 45: “I do like the idea very much. I think Pacquiao can beat any fighter or be competitive with any fighter today.”

this is confirmed to happen according to WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman above from x.com
i know this is going to like a kind of fight of jake vs mike but pacquiao vs barrios seem to be a real fight they are cooking for WBC welterweight division.
Pacquiao is 45years old to take a shot for title belt from his opponent Mario Barrios (29 -2) is just 29 which is a prime year still. its got not date yet but assuming its finalized. is this winnable for Pacman or not?

Yeah, we have been hearing this fight for a long time, even the Pacquiao going to the Olympics, but it was shoot down by the IOC obviously. And then him going to the exhibition matches as well, indicating the Manny is trying to be active once again in Pacquaio.
And so it was a great pick though, I mean Barrios is a champion, but not sure if he has want it takes to beat Manny. And it will be good for him as he will have his time to fight the legend and most likely getting the biggest paycheck of his career.
-
Manny Pacquiao without any doubt is a good boxer and a fighter but he's 45 years old now and it will be quite hard to compete against Mario Barrios who's just 29 years old.
It's a champion vs another champion match and I believe it will be a tough match for Pacquiao since Barrios is more energetic due to his young age.
However, when it comes to experience then without doubt Pacquiao is at top but if it comes to power and stamina then Barrios is better than Pacquiao at those departments.

Personally, i don't think that the Pacman still got some gas left in his tank. He struggled against Thurman and lost against Ugas so my prediction against a young Mario Barrios is that he will suffer a devastating defeat. I don't know why the Pacman will still fight at this age as he already everything that money could buy and he has nothing to prove anymore to anyone. I'm hoping that this fight would not push through as this is a very dangerous fight for Manny.

He is just 45 years old. He could win now than coming back by the age 57 like Mike Tyson. That age is definitely not something you can ignore if you are an aging boxer.
Body's going to give in the end but while its still able to fight and can make money I think Pacquiao should take the shot. There is actually a good sign that Mayweather vs Pacquiao will fight again after this fight.

I still remember when we have doubts when Pacquiao was fighting Keith Thurman at the age of around 40 I think (correct me please). We know how it ends. Same when he fought Matthysse. We know how it ends.
I'm not saying that it will happen again this time, but let's not doubt at least our boxer. I don't think he has everything to lose on this one, and he let's not forget that during his prime, he's being considered the "king of welterweight" because of how he demolished his fighters. This is his comfort division, and I think he still has the power to fight. Now the downside is that I don't think that he has enough stamina to stay for a whole 12 round fight. He will be exhausted if that happens.
Right now, it's hard to predict hence, I will not make any. :D

When people talk about fighters experience, I suggest them to pay attention to injuries those fighters get during gaining that experience. They did not get this experience for nothing. The more aged and experienced they are, the closer their stone chin is to turn into wood. The more is the chance that old injury will remind about himself during the fight or training camp.
To bad it isnt clear when Pacquiao and Barrios is going to have a fight, when in a month, Pacquiao is fighting Rukiya Anpo.

Very true and I highly agree with you. Each fighter with who is experienced as faced big injuries along the way because they had to face good fighters in their fighting career.
Sometimes experience can help a fighter to perform better because they never repeat the mistakes that they did in matches that they fought.
I believe in that regard Pacquiao is still a better fighter but surely there's no confirmation that either those two fighters will have a fight or not.
-
I don't know but I think Manny still has it in him and perhaps he think that he can win against the weakest of the champion in Mario Barrios. Barrios lost to Thurman and against Tank Davis already. And although he might be hitting his prime, but Manny might be too much for him and Manny could still pull the trigger at 45 years old.
So don't discount Manny against Barrios, some of the great champions has still something in their belly and that they want to get it out and so they want to fight for the last time and see how it goes for them.

Is it really a title fight or just an exhibition one? All I thought is that Pacquiao already has retired from boxing and will only play for exhibition matches. But yeah I am not familiar with Barrios but I watched his previous fight and I was a litte bit of a doubt if he really win against Pacman because he was beaten by Thurman though he also got an advantage when he beat Ugas since Manny lost against that guy during their match. Barrios is a good puncher too and given Pacman's age maybe it was a 50/50 win but my bet would be on Pacquiao on this.

its a real pro fight and Pacquiao is up to earn the belt. idk when this will happen but it should be this year. ye he is somewhat old. but doing a come back while he is able to box is better than trying to come back when his life is at its twilight ;D
Pacquiao stepping up like the baddest in boxing is more courageous than those fighters who are just waiting for the top fighters to age and then decides to challenge. no one is like Pacquiao today, that whoever their promotion says he fight with they always get the answer to be Yes.
-
I like Manny the Fighter but an immediate world title? Nah, that's just a money grab from the promoters/organizers. If we look at this objectively, he doesn't deserve to be fighting for the belt or rather, he hasn't earned it yet. I think there are more active boxers in the top rankings that he should be fighting first.

I would say that this is going to be a professional fight, not title of exhibition. The kind of fight Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou had. Fight in full power, but no belts were on stake. The fight wont be exhibition, because why would it be? They are not retired that much, they arent both biggest stars of all time. Pacquiao vs Mayweather would be a nice exhibition fight. But having an exhibition fight against Barrios, he is still an active fighter though. Why this cant be a title fight - Manny Pacquiao isnt ranked today. He isnt an obligatory contender on a belt.

If there is no belt at stake for this fight then i think Manny would not fight as this will be not an exhibition match. I think also that the promoters will do its best to lure Manny to fight and this fight being a title fight is one of them. My stance will not change, this is a risky fight for Manny even if Barrios is not the likes of Crawford but still he poses a threat to Manny.

This is a title fight, Barrios is the WBC welterweight champion and that Manny used to hold that belt and so WBC is giving him a chance to fight for it the moment Manny shows intention again to make a comeback.
Not sure though if he is going to stay that long and defend the belt after he wins against Barrios. And yeah the timing and obviously the corrupt WBC president and wanted to make money for them as they know that there are still a lot of fans willing to watch Manny and pay that tickets so instant and easy money as well for their organization.
-
there is not much update for this news though.
seen boxing influencers covering this idea that WBC is very much interested to make this happen on December 2024. but there is no real date nor a venue for this to take place.
if they are up to make money i think allowing this to be endorsed by the Saudi prince would be enough to pay large sum for Pacquiao and Barrios. they can gather support from the boxing community and at the same time making Pacquiao's come back the grandest.
-
I've read about this but Manny should get fast Anpon first in their exhibition fight and if Manny shows a good performance then the fight against Barrios will evoke interest.
Barrios is a good fighter but he cannot be considered an exceptional fighter, Manny has a good chance of beating this young kid if he uses his experience and if he still has it, I would like to judge the fight after the Pacquiao - Anpo fight.

It could be very different though, this is a exhibition match and fans wanted to get entertain and get the most money out of it. So Manny the entertainer will show up in this fight and it might go to the distance.

Yes, a good fighter but that not elite and so Manny will be tested here but with his ton of experienced and he can throw that punch, he has a huge advantage of him and I wouldn't be surprise if Manny pulls a big win again, another accomplishment in his career.

It's hard to take the boxer out of Manny he still believes he can keep up he may win against Barrios and that's another title for him that will make him continue boxing until he is beaten badly to retirement.
We all want Manny to enjoy his retirement he has the money the popularity and he has a career in politics, he should just live a quiet life, but like I said it's hard to take the boxer out of money until one boxer takes it away from him.

Yeah, Manny enjoys the limelight so much so it is very hard for him to leave boxing for good. About Marrio Barrios, i do think that Ugas and him is more of the same in terms of talent so that is why i'm thinking that Manny might have a hard time coping up with the young boxer. This is a 12 round fight and at this stage, i just hope that Manny could sustain and go for the whole twelve rounds.

Not just in boxing, but I think in any sports, it's hard to quit specially at one time you are one of the best, like Tom Brady. So this GOAT athlete still believed that they have one good fight in them or they can still conquer their sports and still win against those young guys.
And probably that's what in Manny's mind, he thinks that Barrios could be a taylor fit for him and that Mario's style can specially be offset by Manny's speed and experience and his punching power.

Barrios is beatable that is why Pacquiao made that arrangement after the Tank fight, Barrios weaknesses are exposed but Manny is not Tank he will need to make use of his power and skill and if he still has it he can easily beat Barrios but if age comes to play, Barrios could be the boxer that can finally retire Manny.

Right, still careful matchmaking more than ever for Manny, as we all know that he is no longer in his prime so he has to carefully choose his opponents, although that is the blue print that him and Top Rank has done throughout his career.
So Barrios is beatable at any angle, unless Manny shows that he can no longer fight and put punches in bunch just like before. But the good gauge is against the Japanese that he will fought for a exhibition fights. We will see Manny still possesses that hunger in him to win and please his fans.

I do hope that Manny Pacquaio still has it to defeat a boxer who is still at his peak because the way i saw it, Manny though he won but he was badly beaten in the Thurman fight. If not for that knockdown, he could have lost that fight. Then the Ugas fight came where we can see aged Manny showing up. We just wait and see how he performs on this exhibition fight as they said that this is the gauge whether he fight Barrios or not.
-
There are a lot of videos of Manny Pacquaio circulating in social media, other says that it was due to Manny training for Mario Barrios. But I will say that he is on the gym right now because he will have a exhibition fight in Japan.
So right now, this is just pure speculation, but as we can see, we could be seeing Manny again in the pro ranks if he wanted to and by the looks of his training video, for me he can still pull that trigger and if this fight happens, chances are good base on what I see on the training footage that he can beat Barrios despite his age.

That's how he fight on his early 40s. Now we should see this future fight on the last fight of pacman and ugas. Buboy mentioned that pacman suffer cramps on that fight, with current pacman's age, no doubt it may happen again if he enter on that ring again.
-
Filipino fans of Pacquaio I think are hopeful to see him fight and win a real fight. These exhibition fights are like tuneup fights for him. It wouldn't be easy at his age but I would also like a real fight that matters for boxing.
Whether he wins or not, it will be a good fight because its not an exhibition. And thats what Pacquiao is used to.

I'm doubtful that this fight will push through as no contracts has been signed yet. Pacman is fighting an exhibition bout this Saturday and this will be the gauge if he still has it to bet a legit boxer like Mario Barrios. But even if he is impressive against Anpo, he will be risking his health against a young Barrios so better for him to retire from boxing for good and if he missed boxing, he could always fight an exhibition against MMA fighters.
