Xapo Bank Enters UK Market, Offers Interest-Bearing USD and Bitcoin Account

Xapo Bank has entered the UK market, becoming the only licensed banking group to offer a combined interest-bearing USD and bitcoin account. “We’re proud to announce we have successfully passported our banking license into the UK. This means we are allowed to offer our banking services directly to the UK market,” said the CEO of Xapo Bank. Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

I remember they manage faucet service long time ago. Anyway, while i would advice people to keep their Bitcoin on self-custodial wallet. But their bank account may be attractive for people who're looking for cryptocurrency-friendly bank, since some bank explicitly forbid cryptocurrency-related transaction[1].

I think I heard of this Xapo some years ago though I never got any account with them in any way. I search the site of Xapo (https://www.xapobank.com/en/faq/building-your-wealth/how-is-xapo-regulated-2) and I learn that this is registered mainly and headquartered in Gibraltar: "Xapo's entities are regulated by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC). The GFSC supervises and regulates both fiat currency and crypto activities, allowing us to offer our unique proposition by bridging the gap between traditional banking and cryptocurrency." And now that has successfully gotten a license to do business in UK, am sure Xapo is entering a new phase of its colorful history since 2013. People in UK now got a good option if they are looking for a bank that is dealing with cryptocurrency and I understand that Xapo is also introducing many innovations their customers will love so good luck to them and may they end up with a good volume of business in this region.

I wonder if there is anyone on this forum with experience using Xapo Bank, because with them being an EMI (electronic money institution) similar to something like advcash, that means they're only available in certain areas and as a result of that, it's very hard to find a review of the app anywhere.

I hope it stays solvent though.

Kroo and Starling and most banks that are just apps managed by a team, using 3rd parties for KYC and identification with basically no fraud department have been easy targets for scammers, they made it so easy to get money in and out now they are paying the price, so instead of trying to police the whole thing they mad their math and realized it would be cheaper to completely remove those customers.

Anyhow, from being a bank ourselves we're slowly turning to banks again, I wonder how long it will take till most Bitcoin transactions and accounts won't actually involve real Bitcoin at all.

Thanks for giving us some overview of the exchange as I did not know about it before it is my first time hearing about Xapo. Till now I have heard that crypto is not encouraged by the government as they want it to be blocked fully but considering that information if it's not wrong then the entrance of xapo in the UK will streamline the ways for people to do trading and other transactions in fiat to crypto and vice versa very easily.

This is excellent news for UK citizens and in the long run more exchanges will also do the same which will result in more adoption and we know more adoption of crypto is all we want and this way things will remain more centralized but what can be done as something is good than nothing, so centralized systems are better than nothing.
