Title: How often do failure rates vary between batches?
Post by: NotATether on August 22, 2024, 02:52:19 PM
So let's say for example that Antminer is making a new miner like the S25 or something like that (something that doesn't exist right now), and since they usually have last priority to the chips that TSMC makes, then that forces them to distribute the miners in batches for people to pre-order.

Has it ever happened that miners in one batch are more/less efficient or have a more/less failure rate than the same kind of miner but in a subsequent batch?

Yes, it has happened that miners from different batches of the same model have varying levels of efficiency or failure rates. This can be due to some factors like Variations in chip quality where TSMC, the manufacturer, may have produced chips with slightly different performances, affecting the miner's overall efficiency.
Some times changes in manufacturing process can also cause it like in a case where TSMC might have tweaked their manufacturing process between batches, which can affect the chips' performance or reliability.
Also Binning can result  in differences . Chip manufacturers most times bin chips based on performance, separating them into different categories. Antminer might have received chips from different bins, affecting performance.

Yes, it's possible for miners from different batches to exhibit variations in efficiency and failure rates. This can be due to several factors:Chips from different batches may have different yield rates and quality levels. This can result in variations in the hash rate or power efficiency of the miners.Variations in cooling solutions or assembly processes can impact the operational efficiency and failure rates of the miners.

yeah my antminer L7s were batch 1.

they have worked perfectly for four years and a month.

nice gear.
