I have some NEM (XEM) that I need to sell. I am a US resident. I have spent several hours trying to do this. But every time that I think that I've found an exchange that trades NEM and allows US residents, it turns out that they don't allow US residents.
I suppose that I could try using a VPN. But I am concerned that if I did that, I would not actually be able to withdraw after the trade.
I just need to a one-time transaction here. Does anyone know of an exchange that would work? (It doesn't matter whether it is centralized or decentralized--anything that works is fine.) Does anyone have any insight as to how a US resident can sell their NEM?

its been a long time since this token being discussed again. back in 2016 this token was among the top 10 but nowhere to be found this time. this is like the early attempt to develop a layer 1 project but failed and NEM forgotten after ETH came.
i have no idea US citizen is prohibited to invest in NEM but it this is the case then you are really in desperate situation ;D price seem to be climbing up every bull market though i guess you jsut have to wait til bull run and find a way to sell which is the biggest problem.
have you tried it here https://yobit.net/en/trade/XEM/BTC i don't think yobit will care whether you are from US. it doesn't ask kyc anyway.

There could be two reasons serving as barrier for one to sell a coin or token which he hold, if the coin involved is not recognized well or have least amount of holders and such may not be found in most exchanges being listed under the coins they supported, the second aspect of it is when the country bans the use of crypto or make a strict law against the free flow of trading it, then you may have to make a physical p2p and get a reputable escrow service provider.

Do not use VPN on centralized exchanges. It can result to problem for you.
Do not research on centralized exchanges, you are doing yourself no help about that. Looks for those decentralized exchange that can be used to trade the coin. Use VPN or Tor to connect.

I don't recommend OP to trade on Yobit its a known scammer and you may not get your Nem traded, its better to trade it peer-to-peer. to can ask your friends who are also into Cryptocurrency if they have friends or relatives on countries that accept XEM.
If its a big amount, don't trade in one go; better trade in three phases and check the character of who you are trading with.

You did not mention you want to convert your NEM to some other crypto or to fiat — if it's former, you can use instant exchange services like swapspace (https://swapspace.co/) to convert your NEM to other crypto.
Do note that, you may be required to go through KYC if it's significant amount.

If the country youre is not allowing for the full operation of centralized exchanges like that, its more better to look for another p2p means other than the ones being offered by exchanges, there are escrow service providers who could help connect us to the right buyer of the desiring coin or token we are aiming to sell, there are also platforms in which we can subscribe for p2p aside from exchange.
