Title: What is this page?
Post by: NotATether on August 29, 2024, 09:21:00 AM

While I was browsing the forum, I suddenly got navigated to this 503 page. But it doesn't look like a forum page at all in fact.

I actually think this page is not supposed to be visible. It's clear that it looks like some sort of demo page so maybe admin should just hide it from Nginx or Apache and just serve a standard error page instead.

(The button that says "Now Click Here" just takes you to the forum's home page.)

Check the URL in your image, you see err/503.html. That is error 503. Which means the the forum server is under maintenance or it was overload.

If you clicked on 'now click here' and it worked, it is because it was overloaded at the time.

The reason for creating this page is that old error message was showing the service provider as follows:
I just saw this as wellMaybe it is better to create a custom page for this kind of error.Something with altoinstalks logo and a message "server under maintenance "

Some members suggested creating a new custom page instead of the image above. I suggest adding a Telegram link ----> https://t.me/altcoinstalks (https://t.me/altcoinstalks) as it is a better way to check if the forum is working or not.

I'm aware of that, but this is a weird 503 message, because it doesn't give any indication that the server is overloaded. It should say like "the server is overloaded, please try again later" or something like that.

The old one actually looks better, IMO, just replace the "web hosting service provided by cyber_Folks" part with the Altcoinstalks log and it's good.

I would prefer an an status page, like altcoinstalks.com/status

I don't use telegram  and probably many other users don't as well

I think those external status page services cost money though, and you get them on a subscription. As far as I know, not even Bitcointalk has one.

But I would not go to a Telegram channel just to see if a website is down or not. That's what sites like DownDetector are for.

But if admin wants to try it, it's a very ambitious idea, so he can go for it if he wants.

I stumbled on this page too, but only once, and nothing's next. I can access the site's too after clicking the "forum" link in the upper left of the page.

I feel like it's just a custom page and nothing special and not also paid one.

It will be useful in case something goes wrong or maintenance takes several days or the forum is hacked, I remember bitcointalk had a Twitter account for such updates

Funny this is, I was redirected from one topic to here, https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=323954.0.

And when I click the link, I also got the same error as the OP.

The error keeps popping from time to time.

It's somewhat annoying. I started experiencing this last night. I wanted to ask here, but just waited for someone else to raise the matter. The content of the error message does not reflect that it is an error. It is somewhat implying that the user from his own end is over using the forum.

Haha. Yeah, sounds like it, but i feel like it's just a gimmick alternative to error page. It could be better if there is an error code (e.g. error 503) shown in the page with this message so it will sounds like one.

I have seen too many of this screen recently.

A suggestion would be to have a back button instead of this home button .

I also got to that page when I was quoting a post yesterday. I thought it might be some server overloading issue or maintenance and that's why I avoided it. After refreshing the altcoinstalks I didn't got that error again.

Lol... that's by the way.
But why the error this time around? Is FBI spying this forum? I remember when BTT was often going offline, but now, the forum is stable. Let's believe it's the admin, working in the Back end.

Everything is experiencing it I guess.  I try to access the site in clearnet and in Tor and in both instance, the error pages keeps showing up and I do agree that it is somewhat annoying.

So I do copy my reply first before sending Post first just to make sure that I still have my reply because I'm afraid that I might have lost it when I do click back after the error.

I agree with you because saying grrrr is not enough for some members, although I got the idea that something is wrong with the forum as maybe it is another maintenance or the forum is overloaded, although I don't really think the forum was overloaded because it doesn't have that much real traffic. I think the forum was under maintenance, maybe. Let's hear it from the admin himself. If someone will ask him in a public chat.

The idea about the telegram group is awesome, as if proper information is not given in such images, like for other members as well who could understand only when given the full information, then another way is to convey the information via telegram, although I think the image is just fine if the statements like giving the idea what's going on written in it.

I think many people disagree with this unique page, because the information displayed does not tell us the status of the page, so we as visitors are always guessing the error... "GRRRRR" does sound fun, but it is not a solution for visitors... because the error page problem can occur from the visitor's side or from the server side.... and the word "GRRR" is not enough to answer the error page....

Maybe if there is additional more specific error information, it will be more understandable for some visitors, like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTTP_status_codes

i saw the same thing maybe once or twice but did not think much of it as it wasn’t really much of an inconvenience i never experienced the same thing again and i just assumed that it was just an error which happens quite frequently in the forum sometimes if it’s under maintenance or it just can’t handle all the user activities in the forum

I think I'm already free from this problem because i haven't been able to see this screen for quite some time. I use google chrome browser and a few days ago i saw this screen many times. At first i thought it might be because of my internet speed, but later i got a nasty feeling. However, maybe admin is already working on this issue and we will get rid of this issue very soon.
