For those which doesn't know, there is a censorship battle in Brazil.
X, formerly known as Twitter, has closed its office in Brazil over a censorship row.
The social media platform said a Brazilian Supreme Court judge, Alexandre de Moraes, threatened its legal representative in Brazil with arrest if it did not comply with his "censorship orders".

The supreme court judge decide to censor a few right wing candidates and influencers , and musk refused. Then he fined Twitter, and then Twitter left brazil.
Musk made a few memes about him

As the supreme court judge can't cease money from Twitter, he is now going after starlink , other elon musk companies. Will both companies leave Brazil now? That's crazy!
On Reuters about starlink

left business means no longer have a local office, users will still be able to access , even buy ads i think

Crazy, indeed! As long as there is a strong threat from the state, there is no point in staying and doing business in a country that is prioritizing censorship of people and platforms that can hold contrary views compared with those holding the power. Brazil is not a big loss to X and to other companies that Elon Musk has. better do not do business and make a bow to what the government wants to happen. There must be a stand to be made and I am hoping that people in Brazil will realize the things happening in their country and they make a big pressure for these people to back down and return to the barracks.

even if users can still have access to these platforms, not having a local office will give elon a few headaches there are regulatory compliances expected from these companies and local offices make sure that they are compliant to the local law
i guess they can still have an office but not physically i am not really sure how this will play out

pretty sure that no citizens of any country would want a social media platform to be banned or unusable in their country especially x where they can easily spread information if things were to ever happen
this seems to be just a problem of the government and not a reflection of their citizens
-
They are just too selfish for me and even denied the right of their people to use Starlinks services since it already has closed it's office there in Brazil and it means no service so I think they steal the right of the masses just for their own good and that is terrible.

happens everywhere now. i think Elon will be the next that will be jailed one day if he lands in a country just like Durov. if US will not do it, it might just be the French government again ;D there is just an attack to free speech everywhere but of course they don't say that.
or Brazil just knew they can't trust Elon. the wanna be martian wants to take over the world and they know the man is bind to US. he is a military contractor while Brazil is tied to China.

We are witnessing collapse of sanity and more censorship worldwide.
I am not saying we should remove all censorship from everything, but trying to ban Twitter, telegram and other tools is stupid.
I don't think they can ban twitter even if they want, people will just use it with VPN like in China and other countries.
That being said, I am not a fan of Elon Musk at all., but twitter provides more freedom of conversation than other social media platforms.
-
This is probably what happens when supposed professionals becomes emotional ;D Shutting down or blocking the company from operating in Brazil is within their right but threatening to arrest is already excessive. It's good on Musk for choosing the welfare of the legal representatives.

not sure how they can figure out who are the ones using vpn but the supreme court says that anyone using vpn to access x will be fined almost 9,000 us dollars which is not at all a small amount which can scare a lot of people from even attempting to use vpn for x it’s not just worth it imo
That being said, I am not a fan of Elon Musk at all., but twitter provides more freedom of conversation than other social media platforms.
yup and brazilians are also one of the many users of x so surely this will have such a huge impact to elon’s company i don’t know why exactly he did not just try to get to an agreement with brazil’s government

Twitter is already blocked in Brazil.
And also a fine of 10k usd (50k brl) for anyone who uses VPN

They really are serious about Elon Musk right now since all services are being blocked. $10k is huge and who the heck wants to try using that social media right there when they can use other platforms for that specific purpose. I am just wondering how sophisticated is the technology in Brazil to detect VPN users that is trying to access X? Are internet service providers enough to detect them or it needs more advance tech to do that thing?

they are serious lol a huge country like that won't likely be putting everyone in a jail or making them pay $10k. some businesses are getting data from the users who followed them on x.
and people will browse twitter still even if they sanction that big. its hard for someone addicted to social media to suddenly just stop. they will have to consider people accidentally just go in x.com
i'm using TOR to watch twitter and seem to be no problem. if i could do this, there is no reason for a Brazilian to not ever go to x.com

It is blocked here. The only way to acess is using a vpn afaik.
People can't just hit X.com to use it. It will just show a blocked page

it’s honestly devastating as obviously brazilians have lost one more platform to share whatever it is be it something about politics or just from their own entertainment the whole platform is mourning the platform being blocked from brazil
many brazilians accounts carried the platform absolutely funny and passionate people i don’t know if this will ever be changed but I certainly do miss my brazilian friends whom i met from the platform
-
I just heard that Musk won a battle against Brazil and twitter users won't be punished with financial fines anymore if they are using VPN with their accounts.
Ban remains in Brazil and it's impossible to use this social media without VPN or some other alternative.
Someone suggested Tor browser, but due to always changing IP addresses this could cause problems with your accounts.

Twitter is the only social media platform that allows freedom of speech and every other discreet informations and knowing that it's something that's not under their control they are trying to look for ways to shut down this platform by all means necessary and you are definitely right Elon might be jailed anytime from now. The justice system in the world is unfair. In the case of durov no charges were pinned on him, they had nothing to hold him for other than the fact that he isn't doing what they want
