Title: There will be more scams in the upcoming bull run
Post by: NotATether on September 13, 2024, 04:24:48 PM
So a while ago in 2021 I'm sure you all remember the spike in investment scams, giveaway scams, hacked-account-promoting-tokens-and-other-shitcoins scams that seemingly exploded out of nowhere when Bitcoin jumped from $20K to $69K.

That's going to happen all over again the next time the price goes up like that. Because the scammers want to target all the new people buying crypto and people without enough knowledge about this.

So:

- don't click on any suspicious link
- don't interact with shady people
- don't randomly send coins to addresses you don't know about

And that's it. Stay safe.

I saw on news how FBI warned people about crypto scam through impersonation. Also recently I read that the commonly known North Korean hackers called Lazarus group are targeting bitcoin ETF. Impersonation scam is very common these days. Some can be in form of employment or job offer but which is not true but scam.

Be careful when accepting links or various forms related to crypto on social media, there are lots of frauds targeting digital currency wallets because the price of digital currency is very high and they don't bother carrying out their actions by providing links or other forms. other. If someone you don't know gives you a link or something like that, don't click on it and if the link asks to connect your personal wallet, don't do it because this is a form of fraud that often happens now. So now, keep your wallet private, if necessary, install tight security so that your wallet is safe from danger.

The more you practice in crypto then the more experience you have, so scammers can't scam you even if they want to. In fact scammers always target new investors because they know that newbies will easily fall into the scam trap. This has happened several times and there are many scamming techniques, so it is important to know them all. Illegal apps cannot be downloaded, software and apps should not be downloaded from any third party websites and unknown links. Clicking unknown gmail and entering the link there can't make account.
Moreover your personal information such as wallet key, password cannot be shared. Don't connect your personal wallet by looking at posts from twitter, facebook.

Yeah I was also one of those who received emails and messages from scammers pretending to be from a project team but I just ignored them and blocked. This was actually new but I know there are still individuals that fall to that kind of scam so yeah I hope we take advices from here so things like that can be avoided.

+1 for the warning . I think these are things that can easily be avoided but nevertheless it's very important for us to be reminded about these little things. Sometimes I believe greed is one factor that makes humans vulnerable to scams. Sometimes it's difficult for people to turn down offers that look too good to be true even though them seem very skeptical and shady. The fact is just like we too are getting smarter, scams and hacks too are getting better to balance the fact that some persons will still get scammed.
The bull run is something everyone has been anticipating hopefully it comes nicely.

I expect more innovative schemes from the scammers and I mean they are always ahead of the people but when the time is peak they can rise up to something to a new level and nobody didn't see that coming but we can avoid most of them cause they always comes with their old methods that can be noticed in the blink and can be avoided.

Incase if you guys ever came into such scheme please report it whether it's on a forum or any social media.

Scammers will improve or always update their tricks and methods, because every time they commit fraud and have been read by many people, scammers will change their strategy. Your suggestion is good, if we see it, we should report it in the forum so that other members know.

One should not also connect his wallet to any app or site that asks for it to avoid wallet drain. The bull run is a period where most people are eager to mame money and that is where they give room to scammers by being vulnerable. OP, thanks for this post because it will safe some of us from being victims during the bull run.

Indeed. Usually during the bullrun, new projects will also emerge that create FOMO for many people. And usually there will be many newcomers who want to invest in crypto because they are victims of hype, so most of them don't really understand crypto and how to invest wisely.

And this triggers many greedy scammers who take advantage of opportunities to deceive their various potential victims who are mostly beginners. With various methods, both new and old. And this may often happen, but there are still many victims who emerge because of all this.

Thank you for the important tips, safety is the most important thing in the world of crypto because it is full of scammers who are constantly looking for new victims, so it is good to constantly remind especially for people new to the field.

There are many safety measures that must be followed and never neglected because any mistake can cost a lot, the most important thing is not to click on any untrusted link whether it is on social media, email or any website on the Internet.

Downloading cracked programs from the Internet is also very dangerous, unfortunately I fell victim to one of these programs a while ago when I downloaded a crack for a video conversion program from the Internet.

I completely agree with warning about scams in crypto market. When prices go up scammers come out. We should be careful especially if we are new to crypto or do not know much about it. You gave excellent points but I would like add some more points.

I also think we should

Check information from trusted sources.
Research projects and about team of project carefully.
Make distance from promises that sound too good to be true.
Keep personal info and private keys safe. (Most Important)

Remain aware of these risks and taking steps to protect ourselves we can avoid falling victim to scams. Let's be safe and responsible in crypto community.

Where there’s opportunity, there’s risk. One of the risks in the crypto market is the existence and proliferation of fraudulent projects. The multitude of GameFi, DeFi, and memecoin projects during the bullrun 2021 is evidence of this: they were hastily introduced during the bull market with numerous promises to attract retail investors, only to disappear quickly, causing investors to lose money and become disillusioned with the market.

Investors should follow fundamental analysts to identify the best projects with transparent teams and backing from large investment funds. This can help them reduce the risk of falling into the trap of fraudulent projects. However, sometimes fraudulent projects are also very professional and difficult to detect, such as Eos (under BlockOne) and FTX. At least we know that BTC and ETH are not scam cryptos, so we can allocate a large portion of our capital to them to ensure profits during bullrun.

Will it really matter, the advice we share here on the forum? A lot of people who aren't members of these crypto forum will still fall victim due to intimidation and a lot others. As we walk in to the the bulls, you see so many false investors who also want to buy the trend but don't have money ,claiming to know how to make good amount of money In a short time. And this is even more common on the social medias. Newbies get tempted and buys their lies. Never did they know that these people are scammers, who wants to take money from them, so they can also invest for their own self..

There are very few people who haven't fallen victim to a cryptocurrency scam.  Newbies are the main target of scammers.  Because newbies don't know much about cryptocurrencies.  So newbies should always be aware.  Every step should be taken carefully.  Everyone in this forum should be aware.  Do not click any link or send money to any wallet without understanding.  Not only the newbies are victims of scams but also people who have been in the forum for a long time are also victims of scams. During the bull run, the market is more excited and people are more victims of scams. So don't be too greedy and enter any link without understanding.  can't be done

        -      In this bull run that we are facing now, the scam is becoming more and more acute in the tap mining games that are doing airdrops on Telegram, so our fellow crypto enthusiasts should take extra care so that they don't fall prey to just wasting time.

Now another way of crypto scamming is through phishing links that steal money via people's bank accounts and Amazon and PayPal accounts, and the scammer uses cryptocurrency or bitcoin.

I am also agree with your comment. Because we could saw in this incident to past. I also think that we do facing bul run in the cryptocurrency market. If we follow in 2021,  we can see this same incident. If we follow in maiming game which is involved in telegram airdrop. We also saw that scammers stolen more money from banks. They also stolen money from many way,  which one is phishing links. So we should be must aware from this system. Because i believe that if we should be careful to crypto currency market.

As always, thanks for sharing some tips to us investors, and newbies as well. For sure, there will be some who will take these advices, and will put it on their minds.

I'll also add one thing which is, there are some scammers where they will tell that you won an X amount of coins from an event and I know that it's pretty obvious, but there are some newbies out there that can easily fall to this way of scamming people because of the fact that they won a huge amount of money just by doing nothing. I mean who doesn't want that.

Aside from that, I guess I'll also add that, random people will not tell you to invest on their project. Legit developers will not tell you to invest on their project randomly. If you receive random DMs from them, just ignore it because 99.99%, they're scammers. :)

This time of the market is when everyone in the Crypto space should be more vigilant about the crypto offer they join that asks them to connect their ton wallet for mining coins they have mined.

This time around when mining coins are becoming the deal breaker in crypto space, scammers are finding ways to scam people out of it. Some mining of coins has started asking a ton of fees to have your Ton reward upgraded if you want to earn more Ton monthly.

Someone I know fell victim to such a thing. They made a way with about 3 Tons from her because she wanted to upgrade her mining of tons.

And that's it. Stay safe.

These are great rules of thumb! Aside from these,
- if it sounds too good to be true, it most probably is. Best to stay away
- always check URLs before transacting
- when someone asks you to give more coins to get/withdraw yours, it's a scam
- when you post a problem on here or other platforms asking for help, be wary of those who send you DMs saying they could help (see up-don't interact with shady people)
- take time to educate and update yourself with the latest news on security, scams, etc.

Scam is what we should always expect coming from time to time, likewise the scammers are also making modifications on the routes they used in operating their scam, we are also expected of getting prepared for them by being aware of their latest module of operations, once all these conditions are meant, we will be able to identify for one when we see it coming because we are aware of it already.

We should always stay vigilant and report anything suspicious going forward and don't fall into the traps ourselves.
It sounds easy, but it's still essential to be responsible and keep your funds and keys in check.

since people are going to be extra desperate to get their money in and get some profit, they are most likely to fall victims to scams since they will not be thinking logically scammers will take advantage of this so no matter what happens, always calm down and don’t let your emotions get the best of you otherwise you will not be able to think objectively

Honestly speaking, the more the continue spread and increasing adoptions of crypto, the more we will experience scammers attacks especially on new investors who has very little or no knowledge about cryptocurrency. The worst disappointing situations is that many of these new investors are not willing to learn or even do some searches before investing.
Again, in as much as many new investors are not eager to learn, then expect more scammers activities on the crypto space regularly, and the reason why scammers had ravaged the crypto economy is because crypto has the capacity to make smart people rich in a short time especially if you invest wisely.
In a nutshell, i think that scams has become part of crypto economy and we can only try our best to be vigilant at all time; avoid clicking any link unnecessary, and avoid dealing with people you don't know very well.

It also should be added that people shouldn't interact with unknown contracts, whatever may be written inside of them.
It should be taken with a considerable amount of salt while receiving such. It leads to no good.

In the aspect of sending coins to a wallet address people really need to be careful most especially newbies. someeone lost some money due to this careless act, he wanted to sell so he copied the wallet address of the person that was supposed to do the exchange for him not knowing that some letters were added so the address was no longer corresponding to the one he copied but he didn't cross check it properly before sending it, he lost everything cause he sent to the wrong address, always make sure you double check before doing any transaction so you don't make silly mistakes like this. You are absolutely right on this scammers would definitely take advantage of the upcoming bull run, that's why as someone who's new to to crypto don't just focus on investing and hodling, take your time to also learn about crypto yourself so you don't end up getting scammed

As more people enter the crypto space scams will increase targeting both newbies and experienced users. Newbies in particular are joining airdrops and looking for opportunities to make quick money. They often participate in airdrops they see on Twitter or receive through Telegram accounts.

For users like these the best advice is to never share your private keys or seed phrases with anyone. Scammers are smart they don’t ask for money but instead go after keys and seed phrases which many newbies don’t realize are the most crucial part of securing their assets.

Even without a bull run, there are scammers everywhere. I remember the first time I bought a meme coin on the TON network. Immediately, I received phishing NFTs in my wallet, claiming I had won $10,000. I was like, "This Polygon spam NFT is everywhere." I've seen many newbies fall into these traps by clicking the link and exposing their wallet details because they want to claim free money.
People should also be careful of spam NFTs as well.

How much more so when the bull run starts here in the crypto market? I expect that the number of victims of scammers and hackers will increase even more in
that season, that's for sure.

Yes, currently there are quite a lot of scammers launching their actions, so as investors we must be careful and always do research before making transactions or investing in tokens or coins. Many scammers offer high profits, but they are all scams, don't believe in things like that.

The world of cryptocurrency is very dangerous that is if we are not that careful and will not learn the many strategies that scammer's and fraudsters are employing online to snare us and make us one of their many victims. I can still many messages in both my Facebook and X accounts coming from attractive ladies...and they are usually offering lucrative investment opportunities...join them and your money will certainly be gone to the wind. The takeaway is never trust anybody especially online as there are so many unscrupulous people just waiting to punch our wallets away from ourselves. Because the scammers want to target all the new people buying crypto and people without enough knowledge about this.
Scammers never sleep; they always create new scheme to scam people and you are right new people in Cryptos are the easiest to deceive, because they easily trust and they want people to show them how to make profit from investing, in fact we have an organization dedicated to do that these organizations are disguised as POGO here.
So many raided POGO are actually scam hubs hiding in the name of POGO.
