This is one of my threads on bitcointalk, I decided to bring it here so that some of us who have never come across this facts will also learn and have fun.
I found an amazing article online which i assume to be funny, and at the same time; quite educative and interesting, this are facts I personally think that the gambling community should know about.
So without wasting much of your time, lets dive in.
1. The Founder Of FedEx Saved The Company By Gambling In Vegas.
Here's an inspiring story for aspiring gamblers and small business owners: the founder of FedEx saved his floundering company by gambling in Vegas, earning $27,000 in blackjack! The company only had $5,000 in its coffers when Frederick Smith decided to fly to Vegas in 1973 and risk it all. Though this isn't good investment or business advice in general, Smith's gamble paid off, allowing the company to last long enough to raise $11 million and eventually earn its first profits in 1976.
2. The Nevada State Prison Used to Have a Casino for Inmates.
Gambling is such a huge industry in Nevada that even the state prison had a casino inside it for 35 years. That's right: inmates could play blackjack, craps, poker, and even bet on sports inside the "Bullpen," a stone building on the prison's grounds in Carson City from 1932 to 1967. A new warden from California shut it down that year, saying gambling was a "degradation" to the inmates.
3. The Sandwich Was Basically Invented in a Casino
(https://talkimg.com/images/2023/12/16/EoZDj.jpeg)
The legend goes something like this: in 1765, John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, was such a huge gambler that he didn't want to leave the gaming table to eat. Instead, Montagu told his servants to just bring him some meat between sliced bread so he could eat and play at the same time. Thus the "sandwich" was born... sort of.
In reality, the Earl wasn't much of a gambler, but he did enjoy his namesake meal. The legend came from a French travel guide about London and is the only source of the gambling tale. The story caught on, however, and soon people throughout Europe were craving sandwiches. Montagu didn't invent the meal - it's meat between bread, after all; people had likely been eating this combo for centuries - but he did give it a name and a cool story to go with it (whether he liked it or not!).
4. Some Gambling Addicts Pee All Over the Gaming Floor.
Some gamblers simply take things too far: addiction counselors say that some problem gamblers are so impaired by their addiction that they simply urinate all over themselves or wear adult diapers rather than step away from the table or slot machine. For instance, in Indiana in 2007, a gambler filed a complaint with the state's Gaming Commission after he sat in a pee-soaked chair at a slot machine. And in 2015, a New Jersey man urinated into a slot machine's coin slot rather than leave the gaming floor ;D ;D
5. You Can Voluntarily Ban Yourself from a Casino.
If your addiction to gambling is getting out of control, several states allow you to ban yourself from casinos, making it a crime to step foot on the gaming floor. Ohio, for example, has a so-called "Voluntary Exclusion" program for gamblers looking to kick the habit that allows them to ban themselves for either a year, five years, or life. If you choose the lifetime ban you better mean it: there is no way to get your name off the list once you commit to quitting for good.
6. A World War II Vet Won More Than $25 Million Playing Slots.
Most people think the big money at casinos is made at the table games, but there are rare exceptions in which the slot machines pay off the most. Las Vegas World War II veteran Elmer Sherman won a shocking $4.6 million from a slot machine at the Mirage in 1989, but he wasn't content to stop there. Elmer made it his "life's dream" to win another big jackpot. His dream came true in 2005 when he won a whopping $21.1 million at the Cannery!
7. American Roulette Is Harder to Win Than European Roulette.
Gamblers playing roulette in America are going to have a slightly harder time winning. Originally a French game, Americans have tweaked the formula to include 38 instead of 37 possible places for the ball to land (adding a "00" as well as a "0" house pocket to the wheel). It used to be worse: in 1866, a version of the game featuring an American Eagle symbol added yet another opportunity for the house to win it all.
8. Slot Machines Used to Actually Dispense Fruit-Flavored Chewing Gum.
Ever wonder why slot machines have little pictures of fruit on the wheels? It's because early 1880s-era slot machines would actually dispense fruit-flavored gum. The machines also dispensed tokens meant to be exchanged for drinks and cigars before pumping out actual coins in 1888.
9. "Craps" Comes from "Crabs".
Why is the popular North American casino dice game Craps called Craps? It's a simple equation: language + time = bonkers. Historians think it all started with an old British dice game called Hazard (such a better name). In Hazard, rolling "snake eyes" was called rolling "crabs" (for some reason). French settlers in New Orleans in the mid-1700s kept Hazard alive, but over time, the combination of French and English-speaking players and changes to the game's rules slowly turned "crabs" into "craps" (for some reason) and a whole new game was born, eventually leaving Hazard nothing but a distant memory. Viva le Craps!
10. The World's Smallest Casino Is in the Back of a London Cab.
The alleged "World's Smallest Casino" doesn't even have an address. The Grosvenor Casino in London has a mobile casino in the back of a cab, complete with a gaming table, dealer, bar, and a TV showing sports. The promotional stunt lets riders go anywhere in the city as long as they make a charitable donation... or they can go straight to the casino, free of charge.
11. The Numbers on a Roulette Wheel Add Up to 666.
Gambling and superstition go hand-in-hand, so it's not surprising that some mystical properties have been assigned to some popular casino games. The biblical "Number of the Beast" makes an appearance in every casino with a roulette wheel: if you add up all the numbers on the wheel, you get 666! The coincidence, coupled with gambling's knack for ruining lives, has earned the roulette wheel the nickname "The Devil's Wheel."
12. Citizens of Monaco Can't Gamble at the Monte Carlo Casino.
The infamous Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco is a gambler's paradise... as long as you're not actually from Monaco. In that case, you best go elsewhere: Princess Caroline made it illegal for citizens to gamble in the casino in the mid-1800s, insisting that the revenue generated come only from foreigners. The good news? Citizens don't have to pay income taxes since Monaco uses the casino money instead.
13. Las Vegas Is Not the Gambling Capital of the World.
The city of Macau is the only Chinese territory where it is legal to gamble in a casino... and it also happens to be the world's largest gambling city. Forget Vegas: Macau's casino revenues beat Vegas's five times over in 2012. Unlike Vegas, which makes most of its money in penny slots, most of the money generated in Macau (75 percent!) comes from high rollers making huge bets at table games in V.I.P. rooms.
14. Casinos Are Illegal in Japan (But There's a Loophole).
The Japanese have devised a loophole (https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20120815-the-big-business-of-japans-pachinko-parlours) to allow gamblers to get their fix: while casinos are illegal in the country, Pachinko parlors are not. Pachinko is a slot machine-like game that earns players little silver balls. The balls can be traded for alcohol, toys, or other prizes ... but you can also ask for "special prize" tokens. These tokens can be redeemed at separate, state-regulated shops for cash, thus enabling gamblers to earn money in a country that technically forbids gambling.

Question:

I think you are the same OP that shared some tips sometime ago concerning how to stay ahead in the crypto space (hope I remembered correctly). And now, you are sharing another enlightening facts. To be honest, I haven't come across any of these facts. Thanks for sharing.
Well, I find all of them interesting But let me quickly point out few...
Number 1: that story sounds crazy. I guess the founder of FedEx is a professional gambler, because such wins don't often happen in the gambling industry. Though what he did was a massive risk, which might have shattered the dreams of his business, and so many people would have made a mockery of him.
Number 2: Gambling and betting are common things in prisons, but having a casino is totally insane. We all know how little bets can lead to disagreement and fight, then imagine the kind of violence that the casino will cause.
Number 4: We often discuss about gamblers and addiction on this forum, but I am not aware that addiction can even get a stage where gamblers can't leave their seats. The world is filled with funny things.
Number 5: and I guess anyone who visits a casino after agreeing not to, will get a heavy fine ?.
Number 12: so, some people are traveling to Monaco to gamble, only to end up paying the taxes of the citizens. This is why I believe the world is a funny place.
That should be all. Looking forward to reading more of your tips. Thanks alot.

I did read the thread when you created it at bitcointalk - and I believe that was the first time I saw these facts, and some also added some other interesting facts in the threads.
No 10. Sounds the craziest out of all of them, fitting a whole casino in a car and it will keep moving. I’d be like I won 10 grands while at location X and the other 5 grands while at location Z on the same casino. It just sounds fun no gonna lie.

Thanks very much bud, and yes, I am the one who shared those tips some time ago. with perhaps, hundreds of threads that are created on the forum each day, you must have a really good memory to remember who created which that you read 😁.
Thanks and yeah, the world is indeed filled with surprising and funny stuffs in every (business) sector, but we can only know them if and when we give ourselves to wanting to know them.

🤣🤣🤣 Funny stuff man, really funny things around the world.
But the most funniest for me still remains number 4, I laugh really hard when ever I try to imagine a grown up adult sitting and peeing on the chair he's sitting on simply because he doesn't want to leave the game.
One time my two years old daughter did that while watching cartoon, I beat the hell out of her, it's disgusting, but yet very funny.

Several interesting stories to read about here, wonder why I haven't seen on on BCT..
But something I have seen time and time again is people gambling to rescue their struggling businesses from almost filling for bankruptcy to being in the green, and FedEx isnt the only company thats for sure...can only imagine what would have happened should he have lost all the money that night 😭😭
And some strange story I have seen here is that of peeing on casino floors because you are so addicted can't afford to take a 5 minute break to go to the rest room...very gross 🤢 and childish to say the least!!
But I like the Nevada self ban, it's the only way to keep you away from ones bad gambling habits.

1. The Founder Of FedEx Saved The Company By Gambling In Vegas.
I just hope this is not an encouraging story for any young entrepreneur who is struggling in their business to make use of company funds in gambling because the story will not always ends as well as that of the founder of FedEx. As an entrepreneur who is having financial issues in business, consider other means and methods to make money first before you consider to gamble.
-
This is very interesting as some facts here are very funny though. I find it funny were a gambler would pee on themselves while gambling. If they were told that such would be the outcome of their excessive gambling lifestyle I believe they would be ready to throw stones at whoever that made such comment for the reasons being that they were adults and not a kid but the turn of events made it very easier for them and made them pee on themselves like babies. Addicted gamblers can learn a lesson from this event and have peace.
-
14. Casinos Are Illegal in Japan (But There's a Loophole).
even in China they find a way to make a loophole for the rich men to enjoy gambling. they specifically created a law in a particular island where they could just enjoy gambling. this is pretty much they would do to retain the culture and tradition off gambling. gambling existed long before they were developed their gambling games are as old as Egyptian pharaohs.
In the Muslim countries itself have some laws to particular region where they could enjoy betting. right now aa symbol of tourism but the place is just like Vegas where big sports event are held.

Question:
which of this casinos and gambling facts do you find most funny, amazing or surprising?
Lets discuss...
Point number 11 is quite intriguing I don't think it's coincidental for the Devils wheel to sum up to 666, biblically speaking it's the mark of the beast and it deals with everything negative, so it means that gambling addiction itself is being propelled by negative forces this is why there are no positive sides to gambling. Another point that I found very interesting is the fact that you can ban yourself from a physical casino for a specific period of time, I wouldn't have thought it was actually something that's possible, I thought you could only restrict yourself on online casinos only. This would help a lot of chronic gamblers control their losses
-
I found the
The Founder Of FedEx Saved The Company By Gambling In Vegas.
as one of the most stories of fact you've posted, FedEx is a huge company and a brand name I wonder what would happen if he lost the $5000 Will he still keep up or continue his vision for the company or will he give up.
Because of this we have FedEx which operates in many countries and employs thousands of people, this is one rare story and its hard to duplicate, you never gamble money intended for business.

It's funny how I always thought that Las Vegas is the capital city of gambling in the world based on the informations we have been getting from the internet over the years. It was surprising to know that casinos are illegal in Japan, my reason for saying this is because they have a lot of crime going on in that country and casinos should be the least of their problems. Another information that caught my attention here is being able to withdraw from a casino when you are getting addicted, I thought this is something we could only do when gambling online, it's quite impressive to know that it can be done in physical casinos too.
-
This is great and hilarious at the same time it's my first time hearing these stories The FedEx founder stressing so hard while playing because the whole company was at stake and the pachinko in Japan found ways to gamble and get a reward. people determined to gamble and find ways.

1. The Founder Of FedEx Saved The Company By Gambling In Vegas.
inspiring story but one that should not be followed i am sure many people will use this story to validate or justify their gambling but not everyone is lucky like this besides the founder of fedex used the money for good so it’s not just luck but also right decision making
12. Citizens of Monaco Can't Gamble at the Monte Carlo Casino.
yup knew about this and honestly not surprising since monaco tries their very best to make sure their citizens remain rich and secure to be able to move to monaco you are going to need at least a million euros in your bank monaco wants their citizens to be able to sustain a life for themselves
13. Las Vegas Is Not the Gambling Capital of the World.

The city of Macau is the only Chinese territory where it is legal to gamble in a casino... and it also happens to be the world's largest gambling city.
vegas was probably just known for it because of all the crazy things that happen in vegas basically because of the glitz and glamour but from what i know china’s gambling habits date from hundred years of ago so i am not surprised
-
The most surprising of it all for me was from the first one, which talks about how the founder of FedEx was able to safe his business from going down through gambling, but i don't know whether he already have hope on that as the only means for survival or he only do it for the sake of nothing to expect and it all of a sudden turned a miracle.
-
Gambling has a lot and we still have many of these facts to discover about them, we cant know it all, but the little information in which we are having could also help in making discoveries of some vital aspects of it, which remain unknown to many of us, most especially the present generation gamblers, there are lots of things we have to know about gambling, starting from the history that is behind it existence.
-
Snip
these are funny facts about gambling and they're really funny and the most funny one is number one with the story about the owner of fedEx company going to gamble with the companies money to keep the company alive during it starting days that's was a very expensive risk that he took there and I will not advice someone to try that, just imagine him losing the little money that he has that will have been the end of the company for him. Anyway luck shines on him and things worked out for him well I will say that it was purely luck and not betting
-
Gambling experience is an irresistible one, the moment one has begun, it will always turn to be an amazing one because we can only enjoy through what we have passion for, this is why you will have to discover many taking their time to gambling because its more having fun betting than doing other things to them, not to now go deep into the history and facts about how some gambling games emancipated, we are going to be thrilled by the amazing stories behind them.

I've heard about this before and it's still shocking to me that adults would rather Pee on themselves or wear diapers just to avoid missing out on some imagined win that may not even happen.
Once a gambler begins to neglect basic self care just to attend to gambling, then all is not truly well. It doesn't really need to get to that point where they start peeing on themselves. Family members and friends should look out for gamblers like this, give them the attention they need before things get out of hand. Only if casinos can assist by referring these problem gamblers to therapists or counselors that will counsel them.
-
When we got to know about some crazy facts on gambling, it will cause us nothing than to first be laughing because of their amazing background, though gambling on its own is all about fun, so knowing more about their way of being established could cause us to more surprises, the additional part of it is the way it has been discovered to have started even from ancient times up till now.
