Well I've surfed the forum for quite a long time and something interesting caught my attention. Well I've visited the Wallets board however I could see a couple of sub boards there with a couple of very popular wallets. However I couldn't find any of them that were open source wallets there. The three sub wallet boards are literally those of closed source wallets.
I suggest that admin should make a sub board for open source wallets especially for the case of bitcoin and the bitcoiners here since a majority, if not all open source wallets are bitcoin wallets. Better still it would be nice to probably also pick a couple of common open source wallets like ELECTRUM.
We have a lot of teleported members from bitcointalk here and obviously many of them are Open source software supporters and enthusiasts including myself, so it would be nice for persons like these to be able to discuss something like that on an open source board.

Out of curiosity, how many software wallets do you think are truly open-source aside from electrum? I think you can also create a thread listing them all and have it pinned in the wallets board just like dkbit's topic covering open-source hardware wallets. Some members may also contribute to your list.

Well you have quite a nice suggestion here. It would be nice to compile a thread like that for open source wallet users. Anyways although I will attempt to compile something like that by tomorrow I would like to leave this thread with the hopes that admin actually spots it and probably creates a sub board for open source wallets or ELECTRUM.
Anyways let's give it sometime .I'll probably lock the thread you suggested I should create in the future if admin does add an open source wallets sub board or rather maybe I'll still leave it open. Let's just see for a while what happens.

I am not a fan of creating any further board here no matter how important it is. There are way too many boards, that we should be clamouring for merging.
Create the Open source wallets sub board now and see fewer than 5 threads in it. Most times what we want to see as a board can just be a thread. I go with zed0x suggestion.

I do not think that is needed. We can just be discussing about open source wallet instead on any relevant thread created about it. If you see how the board are created about wallets, you will notice that the admin do not care if a wallet is open source or close source, unlike Bitcointalk that have boards for open source wallete but which they do not add more wallet boards to it for years now.

It is not necessary because we already have a sub-board for "Crypto Wallets" as well as even further sub-boards for specific wallets like Metamask, Trust wallet, and so on. If we add an "Open source wallets" board into the mix, then nobody is going to use the "crypto wallets" board any more because most of the wallets people use nowadays are open-source.

It's not bad idea, but i'd rather see it's split into software wallet and hardware wallet instead.

Looking at https://walletscrutiny.com/ (https://walletscrutiny.com/), only 141 (25 + 116) out of 6448 wallets that seems to be open source. Although it's worth to note 4960 wallets categorized as not relevant, 857 wallets not reviewed yet and 49 fake wallets.

I'd say if we were to do that then we should make just a hardware wallet section as a software wallets board would be redundant, given that there's like 5 boards with that theme already.
But then again, that is only going to happen if the forum sees a significant uptick in hardware wallet-related posts, which I don't think has been the case recently.

Well, you are right and I agree with you idea, because looking at this from another angle, this forum is not that populated yet, we already have more than enough boards looking dead, it makes no sense to create even more boards that may like look active only for a few weeks of its creation and then after, go silent with only one or two posts there in a whole week.
There aren't alot of open source bitcoin wallet, personally, I know know about electrum, mycelluim to be open source bitcoin wallet, others I am not sure if they are open source include blue wallet, wasabi, samurai wallet, atomic wallet and a host of others.
And personal, I think that as far as we already have a board for wallet, this can serve for both open source and no open source wallet, there is no need making a separate board or child board for open source wallets.

Plus one for this nice comment. The Op is new to the forum but by now he would have seen some threads concerning the creation of new boards and it deliberations. This has been discussed and people have said not to create new boards because there are numerous boards in the forum. And I am also in support that there should be no board creation for now except most needed Board.

That's great point. Although we could merge MyEtherWallet, MetaMask, TrustWallet and other related board into "software wallet" boards instead to avoid redundant.

This is my general opinion on the matter as well. There is a need to consolidate very inactive child boards into their parents, not create more of them.
Currently the Crypto Wallets section has 6 months of topics on the first page, so clearly there is no need for further sub-sections. Generally speaking, unless you can list enough topics to merge to a new section, that new section should never be created in the first place (with the exception of being paid for). We used to create new sub-sections based on number of available topics to move there, and if we followed this original principle there would also be no argument for creating further sub-sections to act as some sort of archive of topics on certain types of wallets that end up getting necrobumped.
It's like the DEX section which is even worse as has 12 months of topics on the first page, meaning the sub-sections for specific DEXs are pointless as well. It's a similar story with Stable Coins, Coins & Tokens By Exchanges, Crypto Exchanges, and numerous other sections. All of these could have the sub-sections merged into them and even become sub-sections themselves under a parent category of "Others".
I've been meaning to take a proposal for further consolidation of sub-sections to the senate, just haven't got round to it yet (and hoped someone else would beat me to it tbh)...

We already have few topics talking about open source wallets and they are not active very much, so creating additional sub board won't improve anything.
In general I noticed that Wallets board is not very active in this forum, I tried working on that but I guess a lot of people like to spend time talking about Elon Musk and fantasy tokens.
Sub boards should exist only if there is increased interest shown for something.
