Imagine your son, who just turned 18, comes to you, saying, "Dad, I would like to learn how to bet on soccer." He asks if you can explain the basics, like understanding odds, analysis techniques, and the risks involved. What would you do?
I know that, as a parent, you want to support your son’s interests but also worry about the potential downsides of gambling, which is normal from my point of view (well, I think teenagers may become addicted to gambling more easily than adults).
My question is: Do you take this opportunity to teach him about responsible betting, or do you try to steer him away from it? Also, if you are still supporting him financially, would you allow him to use the money you provide for betting? the money you work so hard for... :)
P.S.: Whether you’re a parent or not, you are welcome to share your opinion!

I will not allow my child gamble until they are able to become responsible for it financially by earning their own money to use as they wish. Allowing my child to gamble with the pocket money given to him by me means I have the intention to increase the pocket money I give to him because the money given to him will no longer be enough. My child will need to understand responsible gambling before they start gambling; they need to be aware of the risk so that they can avoid becoming addicts.

I am not sure, I mean this is one of those things where things could go out of hand. If he does it for just a hobby and doesn't spend way too much money, then I do not see any harm in it because I do it too, in my nation its allowed and legal, so there is no illegality going around and he is allowed to do it. Plus, if he does it under my supervision, isn't it better than making him go out and gamble while hiding it from me? I am pretty sure if he does it without me knowing it, then things could go a lot worse, but if he does it with me, then we could turn it into an entertaining learning session where I can teach him the harms of it as well.

Will not allow it and will not give help on how to bet on sports, honestly I don't want my son to get involved in gambling just me who has had a bad experience and is now responsible.
Even if he grows up to have a good financial position, it's up to them because it's not my right anymore, for me 18 years old is not the right time to gamble.
-
18 is old enough to go inside a casino. he doesn't even need to be assisted anymore. he can discover all these without a fathers help.
if its just to educate him about betting, yes i would explain to him how to bet on soccer but i would definitely make sure he understand the consequences. young souls like 18, will eventually learn all these today than learning it in his 40s and then get addicted at such old age. its a lot more terrible because midlife crisis + gambling addiction is the worse to deal.

I will definitely warn him about the dangers of gambling and advise him not to gamble because he has not yet begun earning his own money, and if he is allowed to gamble, he will end up gambling with money intended for other purposes, such as paying school bills. When this occurs, he begins to cause problems in his life, and because he is still young, it will be difficult to control his behavior.
Therefore, the best thing to do is to expose him to the dangers of early gambling while also monitoring his activities to ensure that he is not gambling in secret. This is because he can easily find information on how to gamble online without needing me to show him how. Thus, there is a need to monitor his activities.

If my son asks me about something like that, I can tell him about gambling. Because when one is 18 years old he is worthy to know everything. Although gambling is different because no one ever wants their son to be a gambler because if a person gambles it is not his problem but if he loses control it can cause great harm. But I will definitely know better about my son whether he is responsible himself or he learns to earn money himself. I must tell him the negative aspects of gambling and never attract him to gambling. Even if he is involved in gambling on his own, my same advice is that he should not become addicted to gambling in any way.
-
For my son to think of going for soccer bets, he must have known the worth of money and also be earning by himself without demanding me to foot his bills.
Well, my advice to him would be to watch before you leap on gambling. It can be fun at times but too much of it, can be disastrous. He should gamble but let it be at his leisure time when he feels he wants to try his luck on soccer bets

If he was still going to school and asking money from me, I would instantly shut him down and warn him about it. There is just no point teaching him how to gamble when you're basically the one funding and feeding him. If he's already independent financially, then yeah no problem giving out tips but still warn him of the risks.
-
I'm a gambler myself and if my son one day would come and ask this question, i would definitely discourage him from betting and explain to him the disadvantage that gambling would bring to one's life.
-
You'd rather want him to learn it from you than him seeking the help of someone else. He will be talking to someone else when you decline him the help he asked.
So yes this is going to be a good time to teach the responsibility ble gambling while he is interested. He will treasure the advice because this is a father and son bonding.

Re: If your son who is over 18 asks you how to bet on soccer, would you assist him?
No. Not at all.
We know the possible risks of gambling especially to a person that doesn't even know how to control themselves. I'm not saying that my son will be like that, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
I will not assist him, guide him, teach the basics whatsoever, but with how popular gambling is right now especially online gambling, I'm pretty sure that there will be a time where he will know how to gamble not only on soccer, but on different games as well. I don't need to teach him, he will be the one that will do some research especially if he wants to. I'm not a hardcore gambler, but I'm gambling only a few bucks. Still, that doesn't change the fact that I don't want to put my son into danger that gambling can possibly give to him.
-
I won't teach them online casinos of course though it's better for them to be educated about gambling instead of ignoring them because you don't know how influencial those who are around the kiddos they might keep it a secret so yeah be open to them.

I like to avoid creating problems that you have to solve them after, so I would advise my son to not venture into gambling in first place as I see no positives in gambling.

Before doing this betting stuff I will first teach my son all the facts about gambling—the all and positive sides of gambling. At 18, he can decide for himself what path he will cross, but he needs to be resented with all the facts about gambling so he will have an educated decision on how to proceed.
i will allow him to use my money but only enough for him to learn how gambling works and I will discourage him to think that you can make a living in gambling, because that will be impossible to do that.

If my son asks me how to play basketball (changed from soccer because I am only good at betting on basketball) I would explain him about gambling so that he will understand the negative effects it will also be a good way for father-son bonding and at the same time advising your son.

If my child who's above 18years ask me about helping him in betting in soccer I will help him ,to me there's nothing wrong with it we as human being has the free will to do what ever we want so it will be against your child's interest for you not to tell him or her.
The highest you can do is to give advice and make the child see reason why he should not engage in betting as it can become addictive and become a problem in the future

We can help him several times, but we also have to remind about education of the harms and dangers of gambling, and therefore our function is to give the right directions that can be done. The results show that by describing potential drawbacks like becoming an addict and possible consequences, the possible dangerous steps can be explained to children. While it is everybody’s right to decide what they want, the company can recommend or dissuade them from certain actions that are not healthy, accompanied by sound advice. Therefore, support is given without denying the need for sense and understanding regarding what may be experienced in the future.

When I have a son I will teaching him that gambling is for irresponsible people. I will teach him all the bad and negative effects of gambling even the ones that doesn't exist.
I think no responsible parent or parents will teach their children the act of gambling.
Gambling is a bad behaviour take it or leave it

this is why its you who would need to teach your kid when this questions comes from him already. take the opportunity to mark an impression of you being father giving a helping hand to make him understand responsible gambling.
i would probably try to tech the strategy in gambling and try winning the bets or possible outcome. he needs to lose money in order to understand the value of money. people only realize the value of money after he lost it all.

You can teach him about nothing good he will benefit from it in the long run but instead it will just give him stress and loses. You can just teach him to invest in something that will make him productive and profitable, teach them how to earn money in good ways not to waste money from nonsense things like gambling. It is true that gambling is a kind of entertainment but it is a disguised trap.

I would definitely say no as i don't want him to be like me, a gambler. Besides he is still dependent on me financially so why would i allow him to gamble the money which comes from me. If he becomes a gambler in the future at least it doesn't come from me.

Showing them how to bet is not bad. But before showing them how to bet, one needs to know if they have their own finance, a source of income where cash flows and it won't affect them when they lost to betting.
