Vitalik Buterin nets $636K from meme coin sales, sparks debate on investor risk
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently sold several meme coins, which brought in 257.1 ETH, valued at about $636K. His action has stirred debate in the cryptocurrency community once again. The sale of the meme coins, which were donations, has ignited discussions around investor risks and the impact of high-profile sales on low-liquidity tokens. I don't know why creator of those meme coins keep sending their coin to Vitalik. After all, there's long history he sold token/coin he received where did same thing with NEIRO on last August. Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

I do think that they make it because they want to bring traction to their own projects, even at the cost that is mentioned in the article. The news about X coin being sold by Vitalik himself would spark some debates and new articles created about it, etc.
For me, that's the main reason such events are happening.

Those who send Meme tokens to Vitalik seem to want to get support from Vitalik so that the Meme coins he created rise quickly. This is a marketing technique aimed at Vitalik as the founder of the Ethereum coin. In my opinion, Neiro, Pepe, Shiba and all Meme coins created on the Ethereum chain with the basic principle must send some of their coins to Vitalik. I have faith that if one day another Meme coin is created on the Ethereum chain, I will definitely guess that some of the Meme coins will definitely be sent to Vitalik's wallet.

It could be they are trying to appease the gods anytime they want to make the coin goes viral. I think this trend of sending coin to Vitalik address started with Shiba, millions worth of Shiba were donated to Vitalik and the project went parabolic, he later donated the funds to non crypto organization to help the poor and ever since then, new meme coins want to do the same thing.
Vitalik is such a big influencer to crypto community and people belive him and since he is the founder of Ethereum chain, sending coins to the wallet address give recognition to the project and everyone will want to buy the new coin in his wallet. Look at what happen to Neiro meme coin, similar trend is what they did despite selling off these tokens.

The success of meme projects clearly doesn't depend on the fact that developers decide to send part of the emission to Vitalik's address. Yes, some meme projects really recovered after Vitalik organized a sale of meme tokens, but there are many other meme projects that literally collapsed because of it.

I'm aware it's one of their marketing technique. But with so many team doing same, the effectiveness is clearly reduced. In past, news media would mention name of the meme coin on the title. But now, it's only mention once or twice on the text body among many coins just like news link i shared.

One, they would like the whole world to know that they are very generous so they are sending Vitalik Buterin some coins. Two, they are thinking that many people would view their project to be good since Vitalik Buterin is now one of the many hodlers. Three, these developers really love Vitalik Buterin that is why they are sharing their coins with him. Now, of course, since the man is not asking for them in the first place he can sell what he received anytime and for any reason. So maybe the next time these developers would think of sending their coins...they should know that I am available anytime the only problem is that am known only by my mother unlike Vitalik Buterin. Some guys can just be born so lucky and that is Vitalik Buterin for all of you, ladies and gentlemen.

Exactly, and that is a good marketing ploy before, and now I think the effectiveness has been reduced already. And now that Vitalk has done the unthinkable, maybe those creators who are sending him the meme coin will somewhat stop it because they think that he is going to dump it and it might affect or have a impact on their project for sure. Or maybe Vitalik did this to teach them the lesson, a very expensive lesson to stop sending him those meme coins as he might dump it in the future.

maybe they are hoping that they wow vitalik somehow and he decides to keep the token thus increasing the value of said token if someone as prominent of a character as vitalik is reported to be holding a token, a memecoin nonetheless, for sure many will follow him and buy said token

he has said that he donates those he receives unsolicitedly and honestly what a good move that is we need to respect the kind of lifestyle and the principles that vitalik holds not many people would be given free tokens just to give it away to charities what an honorable man

I don't see any problem here nor something to debate about.
I mean Vitalik is an investor at the end of the day and what's the main goal of an investor? To make money, isn't it?
What's very debatable with that move from him? Did Vitalik forced these memecoin creators to give a portion of their coins to him so that he can sell it in the future? These are all donations, and at the end of the day, it's an asset and as an asset, you must sell it anytime if needed. What does the community want then? He holds these coins until he dies. I hope that people will be more open-minded on this one and think that he's an investor, and he will sell his assets anytime he wants to.

I don't see any problem regarding his action. But the full news state the charity (either directly by team or by Vitalik after receiving coin/token) may be used as marketing where investor could get biased perspective. Besides that, Vitalik usually sell all of received coin/token which may affect price of the coin/token in short-term.

- If Vitalik Buterin sold, that was his choice, and I don't see anything wrong with that. is there Also, if someone gave him coins that are meme coins, it is hinfi, which means that he is not allowed to sell them.
Maybe in the beginning Yes, he will not sell at first, but of course when he sees that his profit is big, he will sell it because he is a businessman or an investor and that is normal.
