I see the forum this way
(https://talkimg.com/images/2024/10/17/8o7AZ.png)
I would like to know if maybe people are interested in me developing an extension similar to the one I just did for bitcointalk (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5513278.0)
Let me know if I put it in the pipeline
I don't use phones much, but if someone uses them it becomes very useful

That would be nice of you to do that. I saw your thread about the extension on bitcoin talk too. I tried it and it was nice. However I really didn't stick to using it not because it wasn't cool but because my eyes are already kind of used to viewing the forum the default way. Sometimes I usually browse the forum using my mobile phone and when I do most of the time I run it with desktop mode, that way it's very easy for me to navigate like I'm on my laptop.
Altcoins talks is quite similar too I view the forum in the default way it loads up in my mobile phone and it's kinda similar to BITCOINTALK too. Anyways do make an extension here too I think it's gonna be the first here too I'll definitely try it.
-
Perfect
then as soon as I reach a stable condition for bitcointalk I move on to doing that for altcointalk
unfortunately I have to do it from scratch because the CSS classes are totally different
so I can't just take that and bring it over here
but since I know how I did it, redoing the process isn't difficult (it's just long)

Something like that would not be useful for me because I do not use the forum on a smartphone, but I believe that a certain number of members access the forum exclusively from their smartphones/tablets. As far as I can see, some members on BTT are delighted with this add-on, and considering that over the years there have been dozens of threads asking for something just like that, I think you won't go wrong if you do the same thing for this forum.
Maybe this way we will attract some new users, because the new generations are not too interested in forums, especially if they are not adapted to their smartphones.

The funny thing about this is that I am on mobile now but I don't notice the difference between what is already use and the one on the provided script in BTT. Just same thing, maybe one appeared as if it was zoomed or so. I don't think that the problem that the mobile version brought is so much that we kick our heads over it to look for solutions. This might be nice for many forum users, but I don't see it helpful to me maybe because I don't bother or I don't even have a problem with the current mobile UI

I'd love to use one. I remember struggling so hard to post for a month because Bitcointalk looked terrible on my mobile phone. Luckily I have access to a laptop at that time so it's not a huge issue, although I can't use it freely. While I'm not going to use it regularly, I think it's a good option to browse the website when I'm traveling. I also think it might attract new users if the website becomes mobile-friendly, considering how often I saw young people complain that this or that website is too ugly on social media as mentioned above.
-
Please do. Seems like this forum suffers from the same issue as bitcointalk where you need to zoom in to read anything and everything is just too big for the mobile screen.

sure sure
let's say that at the moment I have managed to arrive at a fairly stable situation on bitcointalk
among other things we managed with fillippone to make it work on the iPhone too and this, I assure you, was really complicated and difficult ..

As much as I would definitely like the op to go ahead and create a mobile script for this forum like he did for bitcointalk. I would like to say that from my own end here, Altcoinstalks to me is more mobile friendly than bitcointalk is.
I say this because here on altcoinstalks, I still manage to read a post, and even type a reply (like I am doing currently) without applying any zoom-out effect, but on bitcointalk, it has never been possible to read a text or type without first zooming out.
And another thing again is that here on altcoinstalks, I can read an entire post without scrolling to the left or to the right because no zoom-out was applied, this is not the same in bitcointalk.
But again, I still will love to have that option for a full fledged mobile version for this forum if it's possible for the op to develop as well.

Yes, I'm happy to do it, I don't use my cell phone much
given that I am a security expert I know and consider the smartphone to be a compromised device
so I always prefer to use the laptop where I have all my programs and security checks which give me peace of mind
but since the community uses smartphones, I give everyone a service if I can
and then every now and then when I'm on break (of work) I read on my phone too

You are right, I do have two laptop computers functioning really well, but somehow, I've gotten used to using my mobile phone to access this forums, only time I remember I use to get on my pc 💻 to access the forum (specially bitcointalk) is when I am going to change my signature and copying the code is proving difficult, I wit ease; get that done using my pc.
And again, as much as I agree wit you in terms of security as you said, we can't actually under-estimate the convenience that mobile phones offers, like I can literally access any of this forums, create posts or reply to posts or comments from anywhere, even while in a bus going to work lol 😁
-
yep exactly
back on topic, I wanted to ask if any of you have iPhones
the reason is to test the flow tested with fillippone starting from the bitcointalk script
If by chance this is also resolved, I'll start working on the altcointalk script on Monday
-

~snip~
From what you and some other users say, it seems that ATT is better optimized for mobile devices than BTT, but maybe everything will look even better with the new script. Until it is tried, the true result will not be known.

I have never been a fan of Apple devices, although they are far from bad if they sell so much. I hope someone has such a device and can help you test your script.

Even though i'm used to do zoom in and out for smf forums like this and in btt, it would be cool to experience such things. Note that latest versions of SMF are mobile friendly already so you can make reference on them for how it will look like.

What I have a VERY hard time with is when I'm traveling and only have access to my cell phone :P
it's VERY difficult to be able to make a more specific quote, delete some messages or try to make a post with images or some adjustment
Small posts, or simple replies are ok
-
I am using Chrome on my mobile while replying to this and to me it looks fine, I didn't have to zoom in, the browser is kind of adjusted the page to keep in the level redeable but if I use different browser then I have problem like need to zoom in to fit or while replying to a post so I only use chrome on my mobile but if we can have some special tool that will be a good thing.

Worst part is that I don't even want to access the forum on my phone (both of them), because of how bad it is. That means less reading and less postingfrom me. Overall it's bad for the forum because less people will be active.
-
babo, if you did it you would solve one of the most annoying problems of the users who most use their mobile phones to interact with the forum, the damn zoom. That problem is the reason why I personally don't use my phone to connect to the forum almost ever, it's very annoying.
Thanks for the initiative.

no problem
I do it with great pleasure
not to mention that it could be the excuse for me to start using altcoins on mobile too
I don't use it at the moment because having big fingers it makes it very uncomfortable for me to click
if I make a better theme then I definitely might try using it

Yes, you're right
A more user-friendly mobile interface could even bring more traffic to the forum, since many people nowadays only have access to their cell phones
Does anyone here know of a forum that has a good mobile interface?

i can create css and give it to admin
for me is the same
mobile version going to be activate ONLY when is present a mobile device
just we use media-query
https://www.w3schools.com/css/css3_mediaqueries_ex.asp
in this case we dont need any "grease monkey script"

Plus one karma for you. You have said what was in my mind. I am also using smartphone but everything is normal and there is no different. And I believed the forum was designed to suit both the mobile and computer so whatever you use, it is just fine. But we should not discouraged the talent and knowledge of the Op so if he wants to design such feature for the forum, let him continue because interested persons will use it. OP you can continue and update this thread to let people know when is it is done. Or create another thread for the feature.

we can say that the test on bitcointalk was successful
now they ask for other features but I pause them to create the userscript here
I'll try to use css exclusively, then if we want nice features I can also use a little javascript but this doesn't help to put it in the forum (if the admin wants)
-
Go for it.
Similar userscript should work both for bitcointalk and altcoinstalks forum since they are using SMF software as a base.

Yes, I'll start on Monday if there are no setbacks
This week has been busy for me, my wife had many meetings and I had to look after my son
take it to school, take it to school, every day.. heavy as a week
I'll definitely start working on it on Monday
-
I am using both Bitcointalk and Altcoinstalk from mobile and have never found a need for mobile version for either. Some may complain of constant zooming in/out, but I am so used to it, that I am not even conscious of doing it.
So do I have interest in extension? No.

Thanks for letting us know
the world is beautiful because it is varied and non-uniform
Can I ask you what device you use and what pixel size? because if you use a 300px screen it really is to die for
instead if you have a larger screen, in terms of pixels, this is the main reason
