A new documentary claims that one of the world’s most wanted criminals, OneCoin founder Ruja Ignatova, is still alive and residing in South Africa.
Known in digital asset circles as the “Cryptoqueen,” Ignatova founded OneCoin in 2014 and grew it into a multi-billion dollar venture, promising uninformed investors that she had invented “the next Bitcoin.” However, it was all a sham, and when her house of cards collapsed in 2017, she fled her home in Bulgaria and has not been seen since. Numerous reports have claimed she has long been dead, including one that claimed she was dismembered by a mafia boss and dumped in the Ionian Sea in 2018.
However, according to German filmmaker Johann von Mirbach, who has been investigating the Cryptoqueen for years and pursuing leads globally, Ignatova is alive and hiding in an affluent neighborhood in the picturesque coastal city of Cape Town in South Africa.

The documentary is the latest to delve into the life of the infamous Cryptoqueen, who has managed to evade authorities for years despite being on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted list since July 2022.
The story of the Cryptoqueen is one of the strangest stories and it still resonates even after all these years, I don’t know if what the documentary claims is true or if it is just meant to attract more views as usual?

while the evidences they have presented claiming ignatova is living in south africa is not that profound, it seems very plausible the people that are connected to ignatova have travelled to the region after she disappeared which could mean they were visiting her
but the documentary stops there which means they weren’t able to really find out where ignatova is hiding in south africa (if she really is) if she is indeed alive and just hiding, i am sure that she has already changed her identity she probably doesn’t look the same anymore and maybe the ignatova that the authorities point to is just a lookalike
many people can disappear with the right methods and resources which two of the things i think ignatova has plenty of

I am hoping that the sighting of the OneCoin scammer can be true and that she can finally be caught and be brought to justice as there are so many victims she should be facing and she do not deserve any kind of luxurious life that she might be enjoying right now while in hiding. Now, am sure that if Ruja Ignatova can be in S.A., she must have been alerted right now with this news and can already be in another country to continue her evading saga. Just like SBF of FTX, she should be tried and be made accountable to the money her deception siphoned from trusting people. Who could have thought that the most famous scammer can be a woman and not a man...certainly we are entering the gender equality era (though this is in a bad way, I guess).

If it’s true that the Cryptoqueen scammer was spotted in South Africa, it’s unwise to make this information public. Now that Cryptoqueen knows people are aware she’s in South Africa, the attention on her makes it likely she’ll be more cautious and may even leave the country. This makes it harder to track her down.
There are two possibilities here: either the documentary is just trying to attract more viewers, or the authorities are not taking the search for her seriously.

I've heard about OneCoin for a long time, even my friends parents used to buy a lot of OneCoin and they're still hoping that OneCoin will make them rich someday, just like how BTC made early investors US millionaires. I've explained the ponzi nature of this project but they still hold great expectations for some kind of miracle.
Regarding the fate of the CryptoQueen, it will be very difficult to know the truth. If she is really in South Africa enjoying life, then the FBI agents will hunt her down aggressively. However, this doesn't really matter for my investment journey, I'm lucky to not be a victim of OneCoin, I just happened to miss out on a lot of time and opportunities with BTC.

I haven't watched the documentary (I didn't even know it existed until now), but that case is recycled every year with the same question - "is she alive?"
There are theories that she was killed by the mafia, that she changed her appearance with plastic surgery, and that she lives in a luxury resort far beyond the reach of all possible authorities. Regardless of whether they will ever catch her or not, I think that in addition to her, the money also disappeared, and that those who were so naive as to believe in such fairy tales will get nothing but an expensive life lesson.
It never occurred to me to invest in something like that, because in those years 1 BTC was worth between $200 and $400, which was really cheap and most people could afford to buy at least one and save it all these years.

Yes, this is my opinion too, if the documentary was sure that Cryptoqueen was in South Africa and was spotted and confirmed to be her, they should have informed the police to arrest her first before making the documentary. So I think this documentary is more for promotion and fame than the truth.

Yes, this is true, this is a rich media material for the press, media and documentaries, so they will reformulate the question and the story every time in a new way. I also lived through OneCoin but I did not buy it and I wonder how people are easily deceived and risk buying a coin for huge amounts.

Some people I know personally still believe that they can mine on their smartphones - and mining consists of clicking something inside the application a couple of times a day. What I want to say is that there are a lot of naive people in the world (millions) and if you are resourceful enough and have no problem deceiving people for your own financial gain, the matter is actually quite simple.

It's not the strangest story, the story is clear, but the reality and the current situation of the girl is unkown and FBI has a big bounty on her, there were many stories shared on internet that she is dead by his body gaurd etc. etc.
I think she is not dead she faked it, she had a lot of money and she can do plastic surgery that then no one can recognize him, so she don't have to be in bad company, speaking of the filmaker, I think he is living in a fantasy world, I mean someone from south africa tipped him that she is living here. Why that person did not tell the authorities for big reward, why that person who tipped take small reward from the filmmaker, it's just fake news, and there is not truth to it.

Unfortunately this is true, I remember a while ago a friend sent me a link to the Pi Network mining application and told me that this coin is similar to Bitcoin and that the coin can be mined via mobile, I laughed at myself because I know that this is impossible and that no coin can be mined via mobile, but unfortunately millions of people were deceived and subscribed to the application.
-
So at the end of all that his only let's call it proof of some tips that somebody spotted her, but the biggest whole in all of this is that if his source knows she has been there what kept him from telling the FBI this? So you make a documentary about this for views and clicks but forget about what everyone's duty in a case like this would normally be?
Sorry, but I call BS on this story, the fact that the fed let her brother go after cooperation means he obviously told them everything, if he was the one knowing more about SA and who had traveled there more than her he obviously told them also where she could have hidden, o no way she's there1

The latest was up to $5 Million right? That's already a huge amount but I guess it's not enough for whoever is supporting her right now to snitched on her. Maybe she pays them more than that to keep her away from all the law enforcement coming after her.

It seems like we know the same people (joking of course :)) - but that's exactly what I meant when I mentioned people mining on smartphones - I avoid mentioning such projects so that someone doesn't misunderstand and instead of avoiding such things, starts using the same one.
Yes, millions are making a fortune for the owners of that app, because as far as I understand, ads are displayed within the app.

In the last news I read, Ignatova was rumored to be hiding in Russia, but considering the possibility that she is in Africa right now, it proves that she is quite good at hiding her identity... the high reward offered by the information hunting agencies for the whereabouts of Ruja Ignatova proves that the queen is really hard to find...
The more people guess its whereabouts, the harder it is to find, right?

On point mate, it's said that "a person chasing a thief is the one showing the thief the road to follow". If truly there is a trace of the scammer, it's something to be kept away from the public ears because the scammer is also on watch to know if there's still a trace of track on her.
I guess the public news to be discussed on this matter is that she has been caught and brought to justice, other documentaries on her trace in South Africa is just a good news that is incomplete probably a medium of getting more views and catching the interest of the public.

If you were running away and had money for a hundred lifetimes, wouldn't you spend as much as it takes to create even more confusion about where you actually are? For me, it would make much more sense to follow the money than the person, because you can't launder such a large amount of money so easily and cover up every trace of it.
It somehow seems to me that there was not enough will to find her, because with all today's technology, no one can disappear without a trace.

The speculation will continue until they can verify through DNA if he is dead or through finger print if she is still alive. Since she has a lot of money, she can fake her death, change his appearance, and bribe people to make her appear that she is already dead, because that's the only way the manhunt will be stopped.
If she is hiding in Africa, that means she has protector in that region With all the money she scam people will be ready to hand her down for money.

Today's technology might be impressive but so is the population growth and the mobility of people, you have millions running around, there are cities that are full of strangers, the war and work from home has complicated things even more, despite all those conspiracies about surveillance it's really hard to find someone if he knows a few basics stuff about hiding and doesn't run red light drunk in a custom Bugatti.
I moved a few years ago in a brand new apartment complex, we're about 30 neighbors in a gated community and hell if I know the first names of even a quarter of them, don't even know what a single one of them is doing for a living, and since I have no clue what this Ignatova looks like she might be my neighbor too, renting the apartment from somebody ;)
-
@Stompix, maybe I watch too many spy movies and think anything is possible - but you're right that there are certainly those who know how to disappear into a crowd or hide right where no one would think to look for them.
If she's still alive, she could be your neighbor or mine - and if by any chance she reads this, don't hesitate to drop us a few million in the mailbox (cryptocurrency, of course) and I promise not to tell anyone that an old lady has moved into my neighborhood which looks just like her :D
-

It's time we disregard every form of news and documentaries stating that Ruja Ignatova is alive and found somewhere. If they know where she is, they should apprehend her already and stop repeating thesame old stories over and over again.

You are right the reward is $5 million, and it's really a big amount, but if she managed to remain hidden till now then I don't think anyone will be able to catch him speaking about the author he just being a little imaginative you know how they go when writing. Agencies put a bounty when they are fed up and want things heated up and difficult for the criminals IMO.
She might be paying his companions more or she might be already dead or she has done the plastic surgery and now no one can recognize her and she might be living her life on some island haha. BTW When first time I came to know that there is crypto queen in the crypto world I thought she must have lot of BTC did not thought that biggest scammers named that good haha.

The reward might be huge (correct me but this might be the largest reward the FBI has ever given to a fugitive), but this crypto-queen can't be found at all and it's been years since she launched Onecoin and until now, there hasn't been any clues or tips that can lead to her and her capture.
I watched some of the most wanted criminals by FBI on Youtube and she's one of the worst criminals ever. I mean how can she create a coin, lure so many investors and bag millions, or maybe billions of money, and just walk out and disappear like nothing happened. Well, there's also a theory that she might be dead already because she has been murdered by, I think one of the investors or one of his partners. Can't remember it, but the truth now is, I don't know if we or the FBI can still find her.
Onecoin and Bitconnect are the biggest frauds back in the days. I think this happened at around 2017 correct me. :)

I think it happened in 2014 and that time there was great hype of ICO where people were investing and getting good returns. I came to know about crypto in 2018 and left it and again in 2021 maybe as that time I joined BTT. The reward on her head is really big and I can't really say how she able to raise that much funds, The people must be so greedy at that time that they want their money to be 100x in no time and end up losing it all.
I watched a lot of videos and read articles where they explained how crazy the trend was of ICO as people were really expecting more than 100x returns on their investings.

Onecoin started really in 2015, that was the real hype , it died in 2016, Bitconnect started in 2016 and died in 2018.
In terms of value in $ indeed they make the top three of rug pulls, but things like FTX and Celsius also lost money and there is always Terra which is hard to quantify but it would be more than both of them combined in sheer marketcap value.

I always remember these two projects which got so popular years ago: OneCoin and Bitconnect. I was not victimized by OneCoin because the entry level was already expensive for me at that time but I got into Bitconnect and even made some amount of money in there and lose nothing because I got out before it imploded. Many people lost money and I am sure they will always remember these two as representing big lessons when dealing with cryptocurrency industry: there are so many scammers and fraudsters around ready to punch anyone's wallet for good and run away from it. Good thing I never lost money in FTX and Tera since I got no involvement with those platforms. In years to come, I am sure we can still encounter similar stories in this industry though the scale may not be anymore comparable to the past.

She is dead.
We will never find her.
Just let go of it.
