It is extremely ironic how I got here.
About me, I am a teacher of International Economics and I constantly update my program. Right now I am willing to build a crypto part on international economic relations course.
I've been researching the crypto movement since 2017 and even had a couple of analytical tools built back in the day.
As I've returned to this area and made my presence on forums like this I became a victim of the scam. Unfortunately here, on this forum.
I've always been extremely cautious but fell a victim of trust to AltCoinsTalks name. I fell short of 1 ETH
Apparently all I had on my MetaMask wallet.
-
Can you add more details, who scammed you, how it was done and what does AltCoinsTalks name have to do with this scam?
Sorry for your loss, I hope 1 Ethereum isn't a big deal for you.
-
Sure!
I followed a link from here:

The one from the AirDrop section
Stupidly enough I followed through QR code via my phone's cam and it triggered a smartcontract.
Had it been through the browser extension, I would have blocked it.
After the smart contract transfered it to these wallets:
0x8da472B318d93E7E473D3893CD40084F2a23D3B3 (already flagged and phishing)
0x450d6d05c246593D050045D729500979cD896afe
1 ETH is still significant sum, I thought of using it as a fuel to write this course in the university. Apparently, this is all I can input now
Not to say I am in Ukraine and business is not running good.
-
it is really inhumane if the account is really committing fraud, if you have enough evidence then you can ask for help from the forum admin, to resolve it,
maybe this can be a lesson for you not to just scan using QR, it is better to use the old way than the modern way but your wealth is gone
I am really concerned about the loss of 1 ETH and a

With all the details
-
1ETH is still a sum. Since your Eth is already taken then it's not going to be retrieved anymore unless the scammer willingly sends it back. Sorry that it had to be said this way. Scammers are always looking for people new to crypto and then lure users with a promise of some tokens.
Crypto as part of international economic relation course, would be interesting. Is this like how crypto being used in international trade?
-
Reading your story I think you are a good person, An international economics teacher who wants or is planning to teach Cryptocurreny subjects to your students. If there is someone who deliberately cheats you, so that you lose 1 Ethereum from your wallet.
I hope that you will get a bigger replacement soon, stay enthusiastic and stick to your goal of developing cryptocurrency in your subjects.

There're several points. Crypto as an asset
Crypto and smart contracts as a way to stabilize monetary systems, how that will influence interest rate hedging
Cross border transactions and currency controls
International virtual labour migration (international employment without leaving domestic country and avoiding payment fees)
It can be a solid topic. Not to mention Black markets, money laundering, that comprise 5% of global economy
Sorry that it had to be said this way.
You are absolutely right. It was my fault, I haven't read the manual fully. Didn't know you can trigger a contract through QR code
-
I hope that you will get a bigger replacement soon, stay enthusiastic and stick to your goal of developing cryptocurrency in your subjects.
Thank you for your kind words.
Frankly, I felt a bit shocked by this and lost my encouragement to pursue this topic. I know, the real community always consists of different people. But getting stuck upon scammers, motivation falls dramatically.
Not to say the scammer is on this forum and is quite active
-
You could have explored the scam related information too while pursuing about crypto currency, consider this as a lesson and move on. Don't stop what you are doing for this and I hope you will find more ways to make more money than what you lost in some way.
Scammers are keep evolving so it's our responsibility to not trust everything even if it's posted on this forum.

Scammers are keep evolving so it's our responsibility to not trust everything even if it's posted on this forum.
I partially disagree, it is my responsibility to keep my eyes open and I am not whining about the loss.
But if something is published on the forum, there must be consequences from the admins, moderators, — the platform needs hygene to remain healthy and if scammers won't get punishment, at least a ban on the forum, then the forum has very little credibility.
I did explore scamming tools, but there's no end to them so I did get caught.
And the link is still on this forum.
-
Don't scan or connect your wallet to random sites on the internet and avoid airdrops or have a different phone that you are using for airdrops that don't have your wallet with funds on it. Maybe, this is a lesson that you have experienced and also put it as a in your topic.
-

Sorry for your loss OP. Well the crypto space and the internet at large can also be a nightmare especially if you lose your funds. Ever heard of the the statement " DON'T TRUST, VERIFY!! ?? Well the point is be it this forum or some other forum or platform, never click links you are not sure of. Infact if you feel so tempted to click the link which is something I don't advice, try to at least preview before hitting it whole heartedly.
Secondly this your loss is actually one of the disadvantages of making use of a hot wallet. The problem is although it's easy to work with and move funds across, it comes with the disadvantage of being connected to the internet where different scams and hacks lurk.
Did you have a password on your wallet?
I think before you can sign a contract it should request your password if set.

Unfortunately, scams are not moderated here, and these scammers use the freedom of speech to exploit the users by posting scam links. The admin might add them a scammer badge or tag if he was proven to be involved in scam activity but it's a process of proving with the necessary information on reputation board.
But AFAIK, it not utilized much here so just assume every link is leading to some kind of trap for the best outcome.

Sad to hear the loss, I hope things will become good for you, 1 ETH is a good amount though, I know you already know the stuff but we must not trust anything on the forum even shared by a good member or a old member, always take actions like these with dummy wallets. And thanks for this post as it will save many other readers to scan the QR codes from such airdrops not even from the airdrops shared by the OP but all the airdrops.
Scanning QR codes only can be that dangerous who would have though, even sometimes I scan some QR codes random on some shops, or on some advertisements, from now on I won't even do that.

Sorry for your loss, 1 ETH is really a big amount that can help in many ways and also help to fulfill a lot in your course of action on building a course in cryptocurrency on international economic relations. Scams are a very serious problem in the crypto space and for forums like this, they are not moderated unless users involved in scamming people is being found guilty and account flagged to avoid further occurrence of such in the future. This is a very important to watch out for especially for newbies in the space and be more careful while clicking links and not just scan any QR code with their phones especially even on their wallets. The money may have been loss, but you’ll get back more sooner as you strive to achieve great things in the crypto space soon.

Even the most experienced crypto enthusiasts falls for different types of scams. I remember one on Twitter (now X) being attacked while doing a live tutorial (something like that).
As to your case, let the forum officers take a look and maybe they can flag the poster of that airdrop as well. Post a link of this topic to the general chat above.
-
I’m sorry to hear about your poor situation. This emphasizes why you should avoid clicking on unsolicited links that attempt to connect to your crypto wallet, as they may be phishing attempts designed to steal your crypto coins.
Many of us have fallen victim to such scams and learned our lesson the hard way: never click on links that ask for access to our crypto wallets.
However, it’s still unfortunate this happened to you, especially with the bull run approaching so fast.
-
Same as the others. I also feel sorry for this incident and the incident that was certainly very unexpected and unexpected. especially being a victim of a scam, this must give you extraordinary regret.
There have been many cases like this, there is not much I can say, other than making this a very valuable experience and lesson, so that in the future it will not happen again and become more careful. Because in any case, the scammers may come back again with a different scam mode, but in fact the point is the same, namely they want our assets. Therefore, we must be more vigilant and careful in all activities and activities, especially in the crypto world/

I think that you also create a best comment in your post. In this post you could express your valuable opinion in this moment. I also very pleased to know you want to a crypto teacher in cryptocurrency world. So i believe that it will be a great achievement for us. But we also sorry for your losses ETH. We also know that many scammer also look why they can steal a currency. So i think get back your ETH must be difficult for you. So i believe that you must be aware in this matter.

This is so sad to know and this happened to you because of the airdrop post in this forum. Please coordinate with admin in case there is something he can do about it. I am not aware that using QR code can be a tool of scammers...this is really a big reminder of us to be so careful with what we are doing so we can never be another victim in the long list of scamming tactics employed by evil people. I am calling on OP of that airdrop to clarify this thing...in case he is honest enough. This should not happen again as 1 ETH is not a small amount especially if you are living in a country right now under many difficulties.

You said that you've been into crypto since 2017 and have done researching, but you completely forgotten to make research on how scammers are scamming people and what tactics they are using to lure these investors.
Well, there are many incidents on other forum as well so it's not surprising that it also happens here. It's just unfortunate to see a user here losing a significant amount of money especially now that we are on a bull run. As the bull run happens, the more scammers are getting active on a daily basis trying to scam these newbies or at least those ignorant ones that doesn't know how these scammers are operating.
Overall, what's done is done, and like I always say, "Learning sometimes really is very expensive." ;) I hope you learned from this experience OP.

I checked the link but I don't see a QR code. I also checked the website posted on that thread and it seems like you need to connect your web3 wallet to interact with it. Does the website behave differently if we access it from a desktop? Maybe my ad blocker or VPN also affects this.
Looks like the OP of that thread is still active. He posted many new threads for different projects. Maybe try to report him and put your screenshot or anything that can support your claim.

I think before you can sign a contract it should request your password if set.
That was the thing
I was properly protected at web version, but in iOS it was covered by faceid. And it requested the sign-in, however somehow it slipped me a smart contract. Didn't no of this function. Perhaps others would be careful from my mistake

That is true
Thank you!
Well, I wonder what are the tools to achieve great things besides trading?
NFTs are not on the rise as I see now. I tried minting some of my photos but it takes a lot of time to market those. And the competition is not about the quality of the art, correct me if I am wrong

Yes, the thread with the airdrop was deleted, but the site still operates.
Should I post the site knowing that it is a scam and people would take a risk entering it?
The OP is active, I reached him but he ignored my message and my comment in the tread.
How can I report him?

Ohh i see. Anyways still on IOS devices , does the face id sensor and verification automatically kick in immediately you enter a payment page? That's because for most other android devices that make use of other security sensors like fingerprints, you have to first click on something like proceed with fingerprint before you can make use of it . Though it's not all but most do it.
Anyways OP I think you should have pretty much learnt newer security lessons to make sure that you properly secure your wallet and if it be the case you don't transact too frequently with it then avoid putting the wallet in your daily driver device especially because sometimes you may get carried away and make silly mistakes.
-

You can try making a thread about him on the reputation board. If you have enough evidence people will notice it.

Maybe I misremember things but some websites trigger your walletconnect even if you visit it without clicking anything. If you cancel or ignore it, some websites will still load properly though. Looks like the website does the same thing, plus they use malicious contracts to trick people. CMIIW.

Sorry about your experience on the forum, but just so that newbies know, this is not a common experience or issue in this forum. Majority of the people in this forum are not scammers and have the intention to learn rather than steal from someone, but it doesn’t hide the fact that amongst us there are some bad eggs willing to drag the name of this forum into the mud and for that reason you have to be careful still dealing with anybody personally in the forum because you have no idea about their motive.

Hopefully, the scammer will send it back to you mate it's not that easy being scammed sad to say it happened here we are sorry for that. You should be careful next time with transactions but I am actually surprised how easy your funds got stolen through a qr code as I never heard of this kinda modus to be honest because at first I never had an experience yet with my transactions using qr and second I double check everything before transactions will be made.
-

I'm sorry to say this but I don't think that the scammer will send OP's money back because as far as I know those scammers, they don't care about anyone but themselves. That's why I don't think the scammer will return the money, there's chance that some good fellows might send OP some money as charity but there's no chance that the scammer will send the money back to OP. I feel bad for OP, but in crypto world newbies often get scammed.

Scammers are Egyptians who want profit for themselves and once they get it they will never return it. Therefore, forget if we have ever been cheated and never expect it back. It is better to use it as an experience so that in the future we can be more careful in investing in crypto. because we will always meet scammers.

Dear All,
First of all, thank you for the support. I reached out with no intention to get money back but I felt I needed to share my experience for others to be more aware and not to evoke negative feelings about it. And I might needed to hear some words of encouragement, so I am grateful I received it in this community.
Secondly, I don't expect the scammers will send money back even partially, nor I feel I am in position to ask for charity. Those are your money well earned and you don't have to share them with others just because someone was unfortunate.
However, I would appreciate options on making assets together, benefiting from each others talents.
Like my general economics, macroeconomics knowledge and midformat film camera photoshooting
I firmly believe this community is not about scammers and my short experience is totally positive besides the very start of it.
-
Unfortunately, no response on the scammer from the Administration of the forum.
Too sad.
One can say that the crypto area is full of scam but it is also the society of trust and collaboration.
From what I witnessed, the newlt established institutions, like social forums, keep their eyes closed on obvious and proven scams and do nothing to clear the area.
This kind of society is non-sustainable, prove me wrong

That would be an interesting data to see. I think most of us here working for crypto company are part of this 5% which could be bigger in the future seeing that crypto is going to be adopted everywhere.
It will be something of a proof that adoption is massively going when these data is publicised excluding that 5% from illicit transactions.
-
It is really sad that you have already been lossed of big funds. Crypto has a high population of scammers so you should always be careful where and to whom you are transacting money. Since there are members from almost all countries so it will be difficult to protest against the scammer. Moreover, you are trading your own funds, so if there is fraud then the members of this forum are not responsible because you have traded money without any reference. So if the scammer doesn't return the funds then there is nothing we can do. But we always warn everyone so that no one gets scammed.
-
So if the scammer doesn't return the funds then there is nothing we can do. But we always warn everyone so that no one gets scammed.
I literally showed proofs of the scam from the member of the forum and there were absolutely no actions from the administration.
I am not expecting that the funds will return, but the scammer is still present and is the source of the future scams right here.
So if the hygene is not an issue, that threatens the reputation of the forum in general
-

The rules of all forums are not the same so from this forum you will not get any option from which the scammer account will be red tagged. For example if someone scams in btt forum and if it is proved then that account is given red tag. So that no one else can easily trust that account and transactions any funds with it. However, the matter should be brought up to the admin community so that everyone can recognize scammer accounts where such tactics are adopted.

sorry for your horrible experience here on the forum but it is true that no matter where there will always be ill intentioned people even in a forum where a lot of genuine investors or traders lurk there will be those that are just lurking around to scam someone so it does not really just depend on the place of where you are but how careful you are
needless to say we need to be careful everywhere at all times and just because we have been around for quite a while and know plenty does not mean we are immune to such frauds this is why it is helpful if we once in a while still refresh our knowledge regarding new ways of scams and other methods of fraud just to protect ourselves

It is one thing unavoidable in cryptocurrency industry and I must say where there is money then there is every possibility for scammer to lurk around their, but the right thing to do is always rinse our brain and mindsets with the new systems and methods scammers do use to attack or even uses to scam people around the forum. Security should be our ultimate priority on the forum and any place around the internet because we can get scam at anytime through phishing link, fake token, fake investment offer, or through helping them to get their assets from their wallet which may happened to be multi sig wallet.

The crypto industry since from the very beginning of its existence has had become like the paradise of scammers and fraudsters and they are coming from all parts of the world taking advantage of the reach power of the internet and cryptocurrency to victimize people. This is the bad side of our industry. of course, the other side is that we are also the industry of opportunities which got a global reach influencing millions of people everyday. Now, in regards to this forum, I am looking forward for a policy that can be clear, solid and acceptable on matters of scams and frauds so we can somehow clean the forum from this evil and not allow anyone to be victimized again.

Can I know how you were scammed here in the crypto space op? I'm just curious, but since 2017 you've known this right? How about the research you did during those times and up until now? Since the times of 2017 until now, the victim of scam here in the crypto space has not disappeared.
The scammers are still going on, so I asked how you were scammed op, so that other members here will be aware of the story you're telling at least somehow. Then most of the crypto community is also careful of those who know and are aware of scammers.

Sure, it's in this topic, I've written it from the start.
Again, I stress as much as I can
I do realize I won't get my funds back. I am triggered by the lack of response from the admins of the forum, that the scammer is still here and no one cares.
So, scam is tolerated. Be it

It will be something of a proof that adoption is massively going when these data is publicised excluding that 5% from illicit transactions.
I am sure the number is significantly higher than 5% in crypto.
As global grey area is about 5% and crypto is a convinient tool to covert the origins, the volume is much higher.
It might be the same in terms of number of crypto users, but shadow sector would be significantly more active in terms of transactions.
