Title: Earn Karma by securing your account
Post by: Freemind on December 08, 2024, 11:00:23 AM
Due to possible limitations of SMF (forum version: SMF 2.0.15) or the difficulty of implementing 2FA (I'm not 100% sure it's possible) on the forum to give greater security to user accounts, I thought I'd start this thread.

One way to give a certain degree of greater security to our accounts is by signing a message from one of our wallet addresses. For that reason, I thought that users who sign a message and put it in a post in this thread, created by examplens, will get additional Karma.

✅ Stake your Bitcoin address (https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=321705.0).

In that thread the necessary information is available to know how to sign a message with some Bitcoin wallets, and also how to do it with wallets of other coins.

Users with negative badges will not get additional Karma. Those users have to solve other things first.

Users with negative Karma also have a chance. They will get +2.

Users with positive Karma with a rank equal to or lower than Sr. Member will get +4.

Users with positive Karma with Hero member rank or higher will get +8.

Users who have already signed their message in the thread since its start (May 31, 2024) will receive their Karma during the next 24 hours.

Yeah, this is good motivation  to those who really want to get karma and the same time for assurance their account will be recoverable if something happens. I just checked the thread and i didn't stake my address yet. Maybe i'll do later too.

Oh so this is why I got 8 karma couple days ago, I was wondering why/where did I get it.

(I'd say it again, it'd be nice if we are allowed to have karma history, so we don't have to wonder about things, ya know? — sorry for shameless plug but I thought it made sense).

Thanks for your support PX-Z.

Ehmmm no. I wrote this thread yesterday and yesterday I started distributing Karma, so those 8+ you're talking about weren't given to you by me...

(You don't have to apologize for anything. But Karma logs will remain private. I also know how to repeat the same thing many times, and it is better for everyone if that logs are not made public).

Signing of message?  Will do just that
It helped me when I lost access to my Bitcointalk account
I believe it can serve same purpose here in cases of such.

Yeah I understand where you coming from and I must say it helps reduces the probability of conflict and misuse but wouldn't it be possible to atleast to threads or post that received a karma?

If my memory serves me right (if I'm wrong, someone correct me please), the last update the admin made about Karma in the threads and posts is that it needed a lot more testing as it could cause database problems and server overload. Anyway, keep in mind that the administrator has a lot of work with the forum, and these kinds of things are at the bottom of the list since there are other priorities.

If I find the admin's post on this topic, I will update this post.

As written in the OP, DYING_S0UL gets +4 for staking his Bitcoin address. Reference: https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=321705.msg1683280#msg1683280.

PX-Z gets +2 for verifying the signed message.

Thank you both for supporting this initiative which, among other things, also teaches how to use other Bitcoin functions.
