It's official, we will see the rematch between Bivol and Beterbiev next year in February, and we all know that during their first fight, it was a big controversial as Artur Beterbiev def. Dmitry Bivol via majority decision (114-114, 115-113, 116-112). At least personally for me, I saw it as a draw, as Bivol take the early charge but Beterbiev finishes strong. And so there were talks of a rematch and finally we will see it.
And not just this fight as the card is pretty much stack up,
Daniel Dubois v Joseph Parker; ( We already have a separated thread, [ POLL ] IBF boxing heavyweight title Fight: DUBOIS vs PARKER 22nd February 2025 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5521478.0)
Shakur Stevenson vs Floyd Schofield
Carlos Adames vs Hamzah Sheeraz
Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Israil Madrimov;
Zhilei Zhang vs Agit Kabayel
Joshua Buatsi vs Callum Smith
What are your thoughts on this rematch? Could Bivol avenge his defeat?
-
For those who want to see the numbers in the first fight and how close it is,

https://www.boxingscene.com/compubox-stats-artur-beterbiev-dmitry-bivol--186425
So in the first six rounds, Bivol numbers is very high and as expected, he is more of the volume puncher.
But in the second half, Beterbiev switch to beast mode and so he increased his attack and power punches to hurt Bivol and that might be enough for the judges to score the fight for him.
Still very close though, that's why a rematch is needed in February 22.

Immediate rematch for both. They can't just get enough of these two, the promotion I think expects a KO. If we see Bivol wins this time by UD you can expect another. Yet they postponed Canelo an immediate rematch with Bivol afaik they signed 2 fight deal.
This is good card, among to watch out is Zhang and Otiiz. Although Shakur is not a KO artist, boxing fans likes how he fight.

It's because Canelo doesn't want to rematch Bivol, or he has so many request and we don't know if he wants it at 168 lbs or 175 lbs. Although I think it should be at 175 lbs because that's where they first fight. But since Canelo lost, he wants to be at the advantage of fighting in his comfortable weight class of super middleweight.
This is good card, among to watch out is Zhang and Otiiz. Although Shakur is not a KO artist, boxing fans likes how he fight.
Zhang will be fighting, yeah, he is a knockout artist although he lost to Parker the last time. There is so much hype on Ortiz before, but let's hope he can keep his winning streak and score another knockout.
Yeah, good to see Shakur is bad, but his style is boring, so I do not think that boxing fans want his style.

I have no dog in this fight but I like that they are willing to do it all over again. I don't think the strategy for both fighters will be different from the first one and I agree that it's going to be another close fight to call. Maybe we'll see a trilogy? I find their rivalry similar to Canelo and GGG.

I do agree, it could be Canelo vs GGG all over again. In the first fight, there could be arguments that it could go either way. But in the first GGG vs Canelo fight, it's a robbery and I do think personally that GGG hands should have raised as the winner. And so here, the pressure could be in Bivol's camp as he needs to win so that there will be a trilogy. If not, then it's going to be 2-0 for Beterbiev and there will be no 3rd match.
So far the odds are in favor of Beterbiev because of him winning the first fight. But still very close odds and again, it can go either way. But I love to see Bivol getting his revenge in here so that we can see that trilogy and it's going to be huge.

A fight that was so close and very controversial and one that people want to see over and over again would love to have a trilogy of it. Beterbiev is the favorite, and it always happens for a fighter who won the first fight, but I still see it as a fight that could go either way, but if Bivol can dominate the second fight, like knocking out Beterbiev it will be clear that Bivol is the real winner of this matchup. There are rematches that don't deserve a trilogy, even though the winner of the rematch is the loser of the first fight. This is the case of Joshua - Ruiz fight.
-
What are your thoughts on this rematch? Could Bivol avenge his defeat?
I can't categorically say that he would by then but there are other factors which are to be considered because when avenging a match it's also time for opposition to prepare himself or herself for a more stronger fight in order not to be defeated.
If rematch is fixed above it's gives stronger edge for both parties to extremely train themselves in order to go defeated each other, but then the already defeated person has entertained fear and could likely lose again whenever he flashes back what happened. So, there's every likelihood that Bivol would lose again.

With that regards, what adjustment should Bivol do in order to win in the rematch?

I don't know if this could be fixed, this is not a exhibition match, and there are a lot at stakes here. All for belts are on the line and both of them knows that this is a very hard fight for either as we have seen in the first fight. So I do not see Beterbiev wanting to lose and have a 0 on his resume.

You will never tell whether he would loss or not as I think Beterbiev would also try his best to retain his possession and point at always.
Bivol can put his efforts to train extensively and make sure he try a bit to get little lift. Though I am not that active into these match of a thing but would try my best start expanding interest to watching boxing as well.

And not just this fight as the card is pretty much stack up,
DAZN keeps getting better with their undercard; this is one of the best undercards I've seen, and some of this matchup is main event worthy.
Dubois - Parker is a must-watch fight as both are coming from wins and both have momentum in their careers. Shakur and Vergil may not have a good challenge in their respective matchups, but its good to see them in one card.

Yes mate, each fight can be the main event as it is really big and as I have said, stack up fight that we haven't seen in years. And this is what Turki can bring into the table, great fights and his influence in boxing now is immense.
Still a long way to go, but for sure, fans are very excited this fight in Saudi again for next year.
And we have Benavidez vs Morrell, and that too could be worth to fight as those are fighting in the LHW and it's interesting to know that they could be the next one in Saudi with the winner of Bivol vs Beterbiev fight.

With Benavidez winning against Morrell, i'm one of the many hopefuls that Benavidez could land a fight on the winner of this match. Better if it could be against Bivol because he was the one who has beaten Canelo Alvarez.
Ten days before the fight but one of my favorite crypto bookies has not yet released the odds for this fight, don't know yet who is the favorite of this match.

Anyone will be a great fight for Benavidez here, but I don't know if he can beat anyone of this two great Russians right now. Specially Bivol who is still in his prime and even if he lost to Beterbiev by chance, it will still be a good match up between him and Benavidez.
Next week it will be fight week so I expect that our favorite sports bookies are going to released more odds for us to choice.

Only 10 days to go. Current odds are:
Beterbiev: x1.76
Bivol: x1.95
So pretty much as expected.
If I had to bet, I'd probably go with Bivol. He failed the first time around and lost his undefeated status, but he didn't get KO'ed by Beterbiev, ruining his perfect all-KOs record. Bivol is technically better so it should be easier for him to make adjustments and learn lessons from the first fight. Then again, he might be under greater pressure which could force him to take more risks and expose himself too much.

You’re right. If Bivol wants to win the judges’ favor, he’ll need to take the risk of going all out against Arthur. This could leave him vulnerable and might result in a knockout. Although I’m a Bivol fan, this time I’ll bet on Beterbiev to win the rematch.

Yes, ML is already attractive and so we don't need to complicate things.
Bivol is the one who is going to make the adjustment here, however, if he will be caught by those power punches of Beterbiev, it might be the same outcome as well as Beterbiev winning in the judges hand.
He can go and take risk, but Beterbiev has a good chin as well and very hard to score even a knockdown. So everything lies on Bivol and his team to come up with a better strategy.

For sure Bivol will come up with another strategy to be victorious in the rematch as he can't do what he do on the first fight because the result will still be the same. I wonder though what adjustment they will made as it would be too risky to go all out with the monster Beterbiev.

It's fight week already, I haven't pull the trigger yet but I'm seeing the same result here.
Yeah, it's hard to picture what kind of strategy Bivol will used here because Beterbiev can also adjust in this fight. But the power is the main difference here as Beterbiev can damage Bivol slowly and then as the fight goes, he is soften already and then Beterbiev winning the championship rounds.

I'm more inclined on Beterbiev winning by decision, the same result as of their last fight. That 3.85 for a decision win for Arthur is very attractive in my opinion so i think that would be my bet but will be betting on the last day before the fight as it might go up to 4.xx.

That is also what I'm what to bet, I'll just waiting for the fight night itself as there could be a chance that the odds might shift to our favor and be it like 4.x.
Let's see how it goes, hopefully it will so that we will have a good win here, hehehe.

Well yeah definitely the same scenario as Canelo and triple G. But regarding he strategy maybe there are slight improvements from their past fights but that will surely end up similar to the previous performances if no one is gonna score a knockout on early rounds.

^ Beterbeiv by decision. looks solid still, they once fought i understand and base on the record that's what happened.
this fight will be this weekend. no news on my feed about it. though i'm not really a big fan to any of them but Beterbeiv is a beast than Bivol who lost to Canelo.
nothing especial in UFC this weekend but boxing looks more fun to watch especially with these big boys fighting each other. Heavy weights are always brutal knock outs. Zhang by KO really is possible?

Looks solid indeed :). I think this is the most attractive options for now as i think this fight will still be a Beterbiev win.
I hope that this fight will be broadcasted for free here in the PH.

Looks like there are some last-minute changes to the fight card.
The scheduled co-main event for the IBF heavyweight title - Dubois Vs Parker gets replaced with Dubois Vs Bakole (No. 2 contender in WBO ranks). Apparently Parker pulled out due to some undisclosed health problems.
Another change is Josh Padley stepping in to replace Floyd Schofield, who also pulled out due to illness. Padley will face Shakur Stevenson for the WBA lightweight title.

Suddenly the supporting events became excited with Parker's replacement of Bakole, Bakole became my favorite after he beat and ruined Jared Anderson's chances in the heavyweight matchups against the top guns; he is considered the most feared heavyweight boxer.
Bakole can take big punches, and he loves to move forward and challenge his opponents toe to toe, so this is going to be a very exciting match. I still bet for Dubois because of his last three fight performances.
-
So Parker went from being the underdog to being the favourite. The odds are:
Parker: x1.54
Bakole: x2.30
The IBF belt will stay with Dubois, which kind of begs the question of what's next for Dubois. Will he be fighting the winner of Parker Vs Bakole, or will he face Usyk.
DAZN Boxing have just published a short clip of Usyk saying he wants Dubois:
https://x.com/DAZNBoxing/status/1892982619333177569
Makes sense as Dubois is a bigger name than any of those two. Even if Usyk were to get stripped of the WBO belt for not fighting Parker/Bakole, he could still win the IBF belt which is equally prestigious.
Usyk also said that he will only fight two more fights before retiring.
-
Weigh-in,
(https://img.youtube.com/vi/HktxaXAgk7g/0.jpg) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HktxaXAgk7g)
Bivol - 174.1 lbs
Beterbiev - 175 lbs
So no issues with the weight as both make it. Beterbiev said that he hopes that this is better than the first fight. So maybe he is looking for a knockout win here and doesn't want this fight to go on the hands of the judges to score? And if he wins by a knockout then there is no question as who is the greatest light heavyweight of this generation.
I still consider this card great even without the Dubois vs Parker fight.
-
And if he wins by a knockout then there is no question as who is the greatest light heavyweight of this generation.
Definitely, and he can retire after this win but of course Benavidez is waiting for a crack at the title and the reputation, Maybe after he beat Benavidez, he may have a claim for the greatest light heavyweight of all time, beating two of what people considered the toughest boxers of this generation. I'm sure Benavidez will be watching this game and sizing both fighters for his next big fight.
-
I still consider this card great even without the Dubois vs Parker fight.
Yeah, it was a great card and we have the new LHW champion in Bivol as he beats Beterbiev via majority decision. Didn't watch the actual, only the highlights and i could say that Bivol had made a great adjustments, float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. I think that there will be a trilogy as this is a 50-50 fight and you never knew who will win.
-
Bivol's footwork was probably too good for Berbetiev this time. I think 99% of those who follow this fight expected Bivol's strategy is to outbox his opponent and he did. It's almost similar in the first but I thought he was more fluid here.
Cries about robbery on the other side this time but that's to be expected too. Trilogy was definitely in the table immediately after the winner was announced, no doubt.

Majority decision looks preposterous because surely there are round that Beterbiev had won. Beterbiev is the aggressive fighter in the ring. I could see Bivol getting hurt with body shots from Beterbiev.
Most probably a trilogy is going to happen. Its like they've planned it to have a trilogy because Saudi prince is paying huge amount for them to fight anyway.

Yeah, the footwork of Bivol is under rated in this second fight. And it shows that he really adjustment, and knows what to do. He didn't fade in the championship rounds like in the last fight and simply outsmart Beterbiev.
So I'm expecting a trilogy, if no trilogy, maybe Benavidez or Canelo who he calls out.

Not only the footwork but the counterpunching and defense as well, he frustrated Beterbiev many times; this is one of the matches where Beterbiev misses a lot of punches; some of the hay makers he threw never land, and yes, on the championship rounds he frustrate and dominates
Beterbiev, there has to be a third match, and it should happen immediately. I'm sure it will still attract fans to watch the third match.

This match is a classic but clearly the trilogy would favor the young Bivol. Father time has clearly caught up with Beterbiev as his power punches were weaker now and that could became weaker on the trilogy if that will not happen very soon.

Right, it's not that strong as the first fight, or maybe Bivol has really adjusted on that power that's why he was not afraid to go toe to toe and even had movement that he really go and punished Beterbiev when we thought that Beterbiev is gaining on him.
And after that, it just wake up Bivol as he took the fight from round 6-8 and then steady getting the points. And again, he didn't fade in the championship rounds, enough for him to have like 2 points edge from one judge.
-
It was a great fight by both of them, a real masterclass. It was much more entertaining than most of the big fights in the heavyweight division.
A deserved win by Bivlo, but Beterbiev has nothing to be ashamed of. In one of the post-fight interviews, Bivol said that Artur was hitting so hard that he thought that, while holding the guard, his own thumbs would break into his skull.
I wouldn't mind to see a 3rd and final fight between them, but, if that's ever to happen, it would probably not happen immediately and they would have to fight at least one other fight in between.
-
Thanks everyone for those who comment on this thread, I'm going to lock it now for good. In summary, Bivol won the fight, unanimous decision with the score of 114-114, 116-112, 115-113.
So we will wait if there is a trilogy (most likely), but for sure, a Bivol vs Benavidez will also be a great fight for us.
