Title: Can I delete a post via moderator report?
Post by: bayu7adi on December 10, 2024, 01:24:40 AM
Is it possible to ask the moderator on the related sub forum to help me delete the post I made without having to burn ALTT Token tokens? For example in this sub forum,

Quote
Altcoins Talks - Cryptocurrency Forum »Learning & News »For Beginners »Basic questions about this forum (Moderators: Vx1, Freemind)

The moderators in charge of the "Basic questions about this forum" board are Vx1 and Freemind...
Is it possible if I ask these two moderators to delete the post I made on the board?
Or the only way to do it, just by burning ALTT Token so that I can delete the post I made myself?

There is no intention to disrespect the existence of altcoinstalks shop, but I just want to ask about the method of deleting posts that I made myself...

Yes, i'm always using the report button to delete my posts, say i accidentally make duplicate post, idk about other kind of posts though, i'm sure there are limitations to it too.

About the burning of ALTT, i can't make comment about it since i never used it before.

From time to time some make mistakes and ask to delete posts made by a mistake, via report button. I see no problem in that and delete such posts, the situation in these cases is clear.

I agree, sometimes we do make mistakes, and wanted to delete it, unfortunately the best way is to report it. I myself have done this before, and if it is a honest mistake, for sure mods will likely make that deletion.

Its not bad if a request can be sent to the moderator on that to do, but we must ensure that we inform the appropriate moderator in charge of the specific board such post was made and state as well some reason for that, if that does not work our as we want, we can just on our own self make editing to the content and modify it to empty content by erasing the post made and saving the edit one.

I guess it only works in case of double posting or duplicate posts, but for other reasons, I seriously doubt that since we have some process to delete them by burning tokens or by attaining the special ranks.

I see no real purpose of deleting a post to be honest, if someone accidentally posted sensitive information they can always edit them out instead of waiting for the mod to take any action and it doesn't need any fees.

When you report a post (regardless of the section), global moderators see the report. Any of those global moderators have the ability to delete any post that was made in error, we all make mistakes. In fact, I deleted many of those posts and I'm sure other global moderators deleted many as well.

I know you're not trying to be disrespectful, don't worry. But we must understand that the forum token must be given "life" if we want it to have any use.

Indeed likewise, I see enough of these as well and delete as needed. If you are the user that created the post, and requesting it will be deleted, then a global mod or section mod will do that for you basically. Ideally edit the post and leave the content with "Delete". Then I don't have to check the reason you are reporting your own post, I can just delete it with one click  :)

It is also fine to report posts of other users that are in similar vain; Double post, remove application, etc. In the cases were the user isn't aware they can report the post for deletion.

Moderators must have the access to delete the post or at least move it to trash section so no one would read it. There are many cases where members make wrong posts so they either edit it and leave it empty or report it. I think reporting it to the moderators is the fastest way to get rid of that post from the thread.

The first fastest way is to edit it so no one could read it. I had this issue many time when I have to delete a post and I did not find a way to it. Other than all this I think just like bitcointalk we must have the same delete feature here too.

Deleting posts has been requested before but admin has its reason why it didn't applied, just like on bitcointalk where deleting posts on some boards are prohibited and some takes hours before you can be able to delete them.

It's probably because there are so few that are reported and need deleting, so it's really not much effort for mods to delete. So in that sense, there is no need for users to have the access to delete posts because mods can do it for so when appropriate and needed. When it's not appropriate, because a user is attempting to hide evidence of breaking forum rules or otherwise, then this is exactly why the forum benefits from not allowing users to delete their own posts. Otherwise without checking any archived links and therefore wasting time, mods wouldn't be aware that a user is misbehaving etc.

i am pretty sure you need to be reasonable for when asking for your post to be deleted

i do not think any moderator will appreciate if you were just indecisive and want to post and delete and post and delete for unknown reasons i too have duplicated a post before due to bad internet connection but my post got deleted

but i would assume that if a post you made has some outdated or fictitious information and you no longer want to spread that then maybe you can ask and your request will be granted but if you are doing this almost every single day maybe you should just try reading through your posts first and making sure everything is correct and that you have nothing else to change before you hit post

Currently altcoinstalk feature only allow for modifying post and not able delete post, its looks good if want delete post have report to moderator firstly before our post automatically deleting.
Difference with altcoinstalk forum can delete post easily just few minutes after posting but altcoinstalk have own regulation about disability delete post, if make wrong post just have opportunity for modifying post and not able for deleting.

I think I'll play along with this idea. If a post is worth deleting, while not make some changes on the post as the OP, by reconstructing the post so it won't be deleted. If a post becomes meaningful and of value, there will be no need of deleting it or requesting for it to be deleted.

I'm sure that the fact of burning points (ALTT Tokens) is to maintain the value in the market and among the users of the forum. I haven't experienced this in the forum, and I'll really like it to remain that way.

Or else they always can get the special ranks which also comes with perks including deleting our posts.
As I said there's no need for the deletion of our posts, if it's violating the forum rules the mods will deal with that and if it's just spam then most likely negative karma will be granted.

And also even then if anyone really need to delete a post then they can left blank with the Dot on their post and then report that  to moderator or send pm to the moderator of that board. I can say the moderator were in altcointalk forum really active and also humble enough for this reason. I also see my service thread bump post were deleted by the moderator.

I've not tried burning alt tokens just to be able to delete a post and similarly I doubt if many other persons here have attempted it too. I think the most time I use the report button is for scam and spam posts and I think it works similarly to the one on BITCOINTALK too since it carries a similar quote.

How the regular " Report to moderator" button actually works is I think moderators get a signal that a particular post needs to be rechecked and if they go through it they either delete or move to off topic as the case may be.

I mostly make wrong posts. I simply edit them and write "delete this post" and another way is to report the post to the moderators so they can delete it. We don't have to PM both moderators, simply a report can do the work. I don't care whether they moved or deleted it but once I checked, one of my posts was moved to trash, so they did not delete but moved the post to the trash can, which means they deleted it in a way.

That also means trash can work as an archive of our deleted posts, I think we can't delete them from there so it's good to edit them instead. Burning the token is healthy for the token but if you don't want to then edit the post and leave a comment there.

The answers from friends here are very helpful, and I think I have found a solution for posts that need to be edited or deleted... thank you

Maybe grouping post categories would be better to maximize each feature, such as some types of posts must be deleted using ALTT Token coin burning, while there is tolerance for some posts that can be deleted using the 'Report to moderator' feature...

Here we can also use services from forums including the Altcoinstalks shop...

I have tried reporting post I was looking to delete and it works indeed, post was moved to trash.

By the way, can anyone confirm if you using ALTT tokens to delete a post, will post will be deleted (i.e, disappears without trace) or will be moved to trash section?

Editing the post, with the text you say, and reporting it is also a good way for mods to see it.

I seem to remember that even using ALTT the post follows the same path as deleting it in the traditional way, therefore the post ends up in the trash.
