Gambling is a social problem as it affects majority of the people in the society.
Gambling addition is terrible as it has brought pains to its victims, their family and friends.
An addicted gambler can do anything to raise money for stakes. He can kill, obtain through false pretence, decieve, kidnap for ransom and even sell personal and family properties.

Even compulsive gamblers always refuse to acknowledge their addiction, despite the fact that it is clear from their actions. Some parents or family members would rather deal with the addiction in secret than send the addict to a rehab center because they think doing so could stigmatize the family. Other times, when they want to take the addict to a rehab, the addict may refuse and the addiction becomes difficult to deal with.
The difficulty here is that the first step in helping a gambler who has an addiction is only when he has acknowledged that he has an addiction and is prepared to go to any lengths to overcome it. This acceptance will force the addict to adhere to his treatment regimen or other guidelines that will help him manage his addiction. Without this acceptance, it is difficult to assist a gambling addict.

Having to pay a rehab/correctional center, a gamblers family/relatives would probably just try to restrict that person's access to money. It's easy to say what they should do but the reality is that majority of them might not have the fund to send the addict for treatment.

I strongly agree with you that Gambling addict's should be taken to rehabilitation centers so that they can become better and reasonable members of the society because Gambling addictions can cause behavior change and other things that can lead to criminality so program's like this will be helpful as gambling addiction is fast becoming a social problem

1. What's your experience?
2. Are you a gamble addict?
1. I have heard a lot of cases involving gambling addiction that ends badly for the gambler. Most cases including robbery, thief and kidnap related crimes but here in my place thief is the most common and estafa.
2. I am personally not a gambling addict though I gamble irresponsibly before but that ends there because I refrain from gambling for years now it's not what I want and I am not a fan of it anymore.

There is no doubt that addicts to gambling can be helped if they are sent to correctional or rehab facilities, but the problem and the challenge in most countries is that these correctional and rehab facilities are not available, hence addicts or irresponsible gamblers are unable to get adequate professional help. If it is within your financial power, investing in the establishment of these correctional and rehab facilities will be an investment that will be profitable for you in the future because, moving forward, the number of addicts and people addicted to gambling is increasing by the years. A standard correctional facility will go a long way in helping people.

This will matter in the first case scenario what they’ve intended to do with such person after realizing that he or she is an addicted gambler? Sometimes I feel that the rich don’t get this addiction vibes when it gets to gambling but rather the poor are always looking to make fortune from engaging in gambling which is a false true and dissemination of fake information to the public just to entice them.
So, a gambler from a rich family is likely not going to engage in gambling to be so addicted that much that will require them going to a rehab, it is definitely going to give them more access to the money since they’re looking not to see themselves as a predecessor to an addicted gambler. Boundaries will be created and they may know better where to get them free off that than going to a rehab.
-
It should be like that. Because if you have been addicted to gambling and it has become worse, it will be difficult for us to make them aware again without special treatment from those who are indeed professionals in their fields. Maybe this will be very difficult to do because addicted gamblers are not necessarily willing to go there. And even many of them may not realize their condition which is very dependent on gambling and enters into compulsive addicted gamblers. This is what is worrying.

This is the danger, because the negative impacts of gambling addiction or compulsive gamblers are indeed many, such as criminal acts, long-term debts, and other unwise decisions that they sometimes make in order to get money to gamble again.

I would say that at one point in my career, I turn into an addict. But when the money stops, I mean the money that I played for gambling because it's easy and extra money, then I also stop my gambling habits simply as that.
I didn't go on the episode to borrow money from others or worst thing that you can imagine, and probably I was just lucky that I still have the right frame in mind during that time and totally shift my mindset to focus on my family instead.

You were not addicted, then. That was just bad gambling on your part. Because addiction is a mental illness, an addict loses the ability to reason, which makes it difficult for him to stand his ground and control his gambling. This is why an addict only regrets his actions after they have been completed and does not consider them beforehand.
An addict finds it hard to watch games without trying to gamble. Gamblers who are addicted to gambling will borrow money to gamble or even sell properties to gamble because they think they can easily replace the property if they win. However, this strategy has never worked for addicted gamblers, so it is important for gamblers to avoid addiction.

That could happen for a gambling addict, but it depends because it would take money as well to pay for those services, and I don’t think that gambler would use that money for his well-being, but we all know where it’s going. It’s with the gambling.
Some family member should start helping the person realize that he is addicted and see what is happening with his life, and maybe he would decide to stop it completely

This is the scenario i could see in a third world countries like mine. Though we have the intent to correct what was going wrong on a gambling addicts but the absent of funds will surely be a factor on why it will not pushes through.

we rarely see gambling addicts going to rehab especially the poor ones. most of those who goes to rehab are guys from a family who can afford to send them to rehab and often due to meth addiction not gambling.
i have an aunt who was once gambling addict. shes never been to a rehab still but because has loving family, they stick together. now her sons re also addicted to gambling. ;D they all play together and i guess i play along with them in the backyard. the good part is that playing cards made the family bond closer. ;D

Correction centre is another word for prison and scientifically addiction is a disease so how can you justify someone who is addicted should be sent to jail unless they committed a crime already and when that happens the addiction part becomes irrelevant on most cases.
Not every addict will steal or kill, they just destroy themselves and if lucky their loved ones will notice and get them into a rehab program that will get the back to who they are.

Win a deadly addiction becomes much difficult to get out of there many cannot come out. I know that gambling is a serious social problem that affects many’s lives. Addiction is a situation where a person cannot control his behavior and creates unhealthy addiction to his bet, which can deteriorate his family, social and financial conditions. Any kind of addiction, especially gambling, brings that person’s life into a crisis. Its impact on family and friends can be deep and long-term. It’s important to increase awareness to deal with this problem, create suitable treatment and helpful environment. If one of the family is addicted to gambling, then that family doesn’t have much time to destroy.

Self extortion is another way an addict can help himself out of addiction, but the problem lies in the hands of the addicted. This is because some gamblers are addicted and don't even know that they are. Whereas, some already knows that they're addicted but don't want to come out from addiction.
-
In my personal opinion what I think about rehab center those are just provide the service to turn off addiction and on the other hand correctional centers for those people who were connected with crime and also addicted to gambling. So I don't think if a person who is only addicted to gambling and there is no connection with the crime of him then you should be sended to the rehab station.

Exactly! And I knew people from here in my place who are like that they don't want to get out of addiction and some don't even realize they are already addicted they just don't admit that they are. I am not against them because it's their lives and choice but I feel so sorry for them hopefully they will realize the true meaning of addiction in gambling as I have already witness that myself with my classmate who won huge amount of money but then lost almost all of it and he is now facing debt which is really not pleasant to hear.

Any kind of addiction is a serious condition that demands effective treatment not only in terms of excluding the particular vice but also to bring to the former state the requested qualities of life. When we mention rehab centres, the main goal falls on giving a necessary encouragement and conditions necessary for a man to rename negative patterns. Thus, with no exception to the illegal actions that accompany most addictions, they are detrimental to the addict and society. Organized effectively, rehab centers may be a place where a person can get back on their feet, build new habits and receive support without shame or sense of punishment. The health of our minds and hearts hinges on our deserving the best and especially in relation to the tools for recovery out there.

The title of your thread is somehow complicated because it's not related to what you're saying in your write-up but the fact is that an one gambling is above eighteen years so is considered mature enough to engage in gambling so there's no reason to send such people to the correctional center if you saw rehabilitation center I will agree with you because someone who is a core gambling addicts can get some help from the rehabilitation center as there are professionals there who will give practical steps on how to go about it

How will you restrict a gambler's access to money when he works and earns?

It simply means you are not an addict. Your level of self control needs to be studied.

Gamble addicts should be sent to the rehad or correctional centers
Yeah, correctional centers, I have an idea, a center where they work all day and they can take their mind of gambling, isn't that a great idea?
Something like this correctional camp, I heard it was a success half a century ago:
Arbeit macht frei
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbeit_macht_frei)
Any more brilliant ideas like this one?

I was talking from the perspective that a gambler's family is the one sending him to a rehab/correctional center. Do you really expect an addict to send himself to those facilities? Most likely he won't that's why relatives had to step in. At this stage too, I'm pretty confident an addict already has problems with money too and he could potentially get in trouble at his job or business.

Yeap, and that is the reason I will always say that the people were in gambling addiction those should be sent to the rehab not to the correctional centers because The Gambler who were addicted those made mistakes in their life not making any offense and if someone made offense like criminal activity then he should be sent to the correctional centers where he will be punished for his criminal activity and as well also rehabilitation.

Addiction is extremely difficult to deal with, so it is best to avoid it. Even if you try to prevent the gambler from gambling, he may do so secretly, undermining the therapeutic instructions.
We sometimes say that uninstalling gambling apps can help, but can we still close down physical gambling shops due to an addicted gambler? Or can we limit his movements? Or put him on a watch?
All of these will undoubtedly reduce the efficacy of a therapy. This is why it is more profitable not to be addicted than to be addicted. There will be many mistakes and regrets, some of which can be fixed and others that cannot, before the addict is able to overcome.

The funny thing about this thread is that if characteristics of gamblers are mentioned, there are few people here that are commenting here that are actually addicted to gambler but they don't even know they are addicted to gambling. This is why such place OP suggested is going to be a failure because you never even know of you are an addicted person or not.
The whole idea about this correctional thing wouldn't work because no government would fund such thing from there own pocket. If gambling is doing damages to the society, they can go ahead and ban it completely instead of doing all this kind of thing. Even if it reach a stage where a private organization would have to build correctional facility for addicted gamblers, the government is going to ban it for good.

There are levels or stages of addiction. Someone who might need rehab are the extremes that needed intervention. As for how to notice, it's usually the ones with constant issues with money. I remember a co-worker some years ago that borrows almost every week. The head got curious and later found out that the person often gambles.

There are level to gambling addicts If the gambling addict is already harming himself and becomes a menace to his family and other people, they should be sent to a correctional facility but if the addiction is moderate, then a consultation with a professional which will give him a plan to overcome his addiction is the one that is needed.
But its important that on the first sign of addiction, the gambler should be aware of it and his family so addiction can be stopped at the right time.

the deeply addicted person are only revealed when the addiction is already at its worse phase because in the first signs they noticed is that they are in denial of this addiction. i think most of the time they are only revealed when families are already talking behind his back because they are already seen the worse of this addicted person like he stole some stuff to sell in order to support his gambling.
the horror show is not fun for them that's why some times these gamblers are kicked out of the house. correctional maybe would help.

The best form to handle gambling addicts is through rehabilitation through professional counseling officers as they are in a better place to reform and equip people with gambling related matters , sending gambling addicts to correctional facilities for the sole purpose of engaging in gambling will no be fair because them engaging in gambling is their right but the only problem is the accesive engagement in gambling which has become a problem to them self and invariable to the society at large

Lets not get it wrong, not all gambling addicts are mentally imbalance, taking to rehab may have to deals with the extreme and outrageous stage with the evidence of being brutally affected by the nature of their gambling habit and this have caused them to lose memory, money and many precious people around them and left with nothing, so a normal and average person can be addicted without being taken to rehab if his condition does not warrant for such.
-
Gambling addiction is not good. The moment friend members get to know that one of their family members is addicted to gambling, taking them to rehab or talking them out of gambling will do a lot of good than letting them just be by themselves because that's a big danger on its own. After all, the person who is addicted will purposely sell off their family properties to make sure they continue with their gambling addictions.
-
For me it depends a lot on the situation the addict is in. Sometimes when they are starting out you can evaluate what or how far they can go, but when they are at an advanced level without a doubt in my opinion they have to go somewhere alone to preserve and safeguard the person's life. For me the rapid intervention of a specialist is essential and they can be treated. Sometimes an addict can not only try to take their own life, they can do crazy things that can take many people down with them, so to avoid many bad things that can happen they should be treated quickly.
