Why is it that when we make topics, almost immediately they get 5-10 replies in a few seconds?
Is this some sort of bug? Because the forum software should not be including bots in the view count.
Look at this topic for example, once I post it, it is probably going to have like 50 views after 10 minutes, which is weird because even on larger forums this amount of engagement is not possible so quickly.
-
I haven't noticed it yet, but for my experience i always use my telegram bot (https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=315728.0) to monitor new topics on some boards and i automatically view the topic if the subject title interests me, but it doesn't mean i will make a reply, it still depends on the topic content.

I do have a kind of question similar to yours, why do we have a lot of views but very few replies?
My best guess is that the the forum considers bot view for the count too, or else there's no way we can have so many views in a short time compared with the forum's traffic data.
Also, we have a lot of threads with more than a thousand views but just a reply or two.
It's been nearly 5 hours since you posted this thread and I can see 43 views now.

I don't see any problem with bots being counted as views for any topics.
This are probably bots used for notifications and analytics in forum, and I don't usually check how many views each topic had.
It is much more important how many real good answers there are in the topic.

I think it is counting our own views as well I can be wrong but sometimes I visits my old topics old enough that they are on not on first two pages so chances for someone elses to visit that page is lower and the views increases so I think our own views also get into counting when we see the thread again and again to see if anyone has replied or not.
Plus 50 views in 10 minutes on your topic is possible, as everyone has their reputation, the level, quality of posts one make, so it's you that is attracting that much traffic, if you are not coming here again and again. Overall 50 views in 10 minutes is not a big deal.

I've noticed that long ago but have not thought or put much attention to it. Maybe to make it appear there are a lot interested?

Possible yeah but it's strange when there are less than 50 signed-in accounts and are active when you made a post. I doubt guest accounts would be on this website opening new topics created.

I don't really see anything weird about a topic after 10 minutes of it being posted to have up to 50 views. I know the forum is still growing, but believe me the number of forum members here are a lot, and if such views comes in, it's quite okay.
Also, the use of bot in the forum could also count on the views, as these bots gives notification to all its subscribers. How interesting the topic created is of more value when it gets tons of replies, than numbers of views.
-
it could be that crawlers of search engine bots are counted in the views. they usually check the new content on the newly created page and there are lots of search engines and crawler bots.
some ofnit could be real users like PX-Z said, he monitors the forum thru telegram bot which they instantly see it but some skip replying.

Yes you are actually right. Haven't really taken time to check about the view issue but for replies I don't think same thing is really happening. I have visited a lot of threads on this forum and not just very recent ones but some a couple of hours old but still with no replies. Sometimes the topics I don't go ahead to make a reply in are usually those that I may not probably understand fully.
As for the views count I think electroniccash may be right. It's very possible random visitors to the forum and bots have their views counted.

I have a theory, and while I can't prove that it's true, I think that every click is counted as a separate view. That is to say, no cookies are being dropped to indicate viewership. Or maybe they are, but it's very weird. Not an annoyance or anything, but just strange behavior.

It could be sessions too, just before i make this reply while writing, i'm the 203rd user who viewed this thread, which means, say the session views are not valid for 24 hours, coz i viewed this thread already, but only after several hours after the thread is viewed by the single user. Then i tried to reload again before i hit the "Post" button then it moved to 204, idk if someone viewed the thread though.
So i guess, a single user can contribute multiple number of views in a single thread within 24 hours instead of only one.
-
to me i do not see any unusual amounts of views in a short amount of time but even though there’s a lot of views and few replies i don’t normally get concerned since i know not many people end up replying to every thread they read it’s normal that the views are larger than the replies
-
I also noticed that we get a lot of views but not many replies. I understand that there might be some bots that scrap the posts, which is why the topic counts as a view. Yet, I don't think a bot will visit the same topic multiple times in a couple of minutes without having any replies in that thread. If you get a reply, then the bot will visit that thread, and it will count as a view; no problem with that. I always had a feeling that the view counter and the online counter is not correct. Probably that is intentional to attract more users to the forum.

What kind of bot would want to scrape altcoinstalks though? There is very little data to scrape here, unlike on some other forums, websites, and making lists. So it all just feels akttle paradoxical to me, as without processing the data and users consuming the data there is.no point running bots on the site.

3599 Guests.
The number of views in the threads is due to this: Most Online Today: 4459.
There are many people who visit the forum and do not necessarily have an account. Some curious people looking for some kind of information, and also users who do not log in.

I still feel like this counter is not accurate. If it were, we would have seen some new faces every other day. But we do not see new people signing up and engaging with the community. The admin knows the truth. If the online counter is accurate but we are not getting new sign-ups, that is pretty sad.

I am aware of two or three posts scraper bots only. If those bots visit threads, it may count as views.

New faces appear every day, although not as many as we would like. Not all guests register on the forum on the first visit, some do so after a while. Other users register their account and take weeks or even months to write their first post, and there are other users who have been registered for months and have never written anything.
Since January 1, 124 new accounts have been registered on the forum until today.

I have observed something similar various times, I was feeling it is the forum moderators and admin that views the topic once posted to review it. Then maybe other users in the forum gets to view them.
Also a topic gets more viewers than comments.
I never found it alarming or bringing to topic.
And also, I noticed that everytime you enter a particular thread in a day, it counts it's views...
Like if you view a topic 3times In 3days, it'll increase the views by 1 everyday.
I can't tell if anyone has observed this?

This is how the forum is configured, I don't know if it is by default or because the administrator has configured it that way. Anyway, what you say is normal. There are many users who read a thread and do not participate, or participate another day, sometimes that happens to me. But we still have to keep in mind, even though it may not seem like it or the change is not very radical, that little by little we are noticing that more and more users are participating in the forum. That, in addition to more traffic and more posts, also means more views on threads.
