I haven't seen any thread created, and I think this is the best place to talk about it
Ross Ulbricht pardoned by Donald Trump
What do you think?
There are so many things to think about...
It will be interesting to follow the repercussions of this emblematic case for libertarians

Great news indeed. I was worried that it all could be just an election talk and that Trump may forget about him later on. Not only did that not happen, but Trump even called Ross's mother to inform her about signing the pardon. Really nice move.
I wonder what's next for him. With the fame and recognition he probably won't end up working a regular 9 to 5 job. I just hope he does not stoop as low as to create his own meme coin Grin

I saw in some comments that Ross has around 44 million dollars in BTC in his wallets

He is a big name and would have some assets to fall back to. Also friends and families will assist him because he has also assisted them before. Don't think this actors are so dumb not to think or plan for the future. Whatever he is doing now will be on a low key.

Ross' sentencing was ridiculous, i think we can all agree to that, two life sentences, plus 40 years, i mean, that is crazy. I think it was a good thing to grant him this pardon, not for BTC or crypto, cause it has nothing to do with it directly, but just for the sake of humanity, his crimes didn't warrant such a strong sentencing.
-
Ross posted a short video on X earlier today. Apparently, he has already been released (I thought it would take a bit longer). He's obviously thanking Trump for sticking to his word and signing the pardon as he promised prior to the elections.

We all like stories with happy endings, but let's not lose focus on how corrupt and simply unjust the justice system can be.

I think Trump is an a$$hole for releasing his meme coin, but i commend him for this pardon granted to Ross Ulbricht. The unjust system really showed itself with the kind of sentence that Ross was handed, that was crazy, i really like this ending and i am glad Trump stood by his words. Let's hope for better going forward.

Yeah, that meme coin (followed by the official Melania coin) was a weird move, to say the least. It could be that he was advised to do it by people in his circle. He released some NFTs before that (to my knowledge) tanked hard.

It now grew to almost $300k now + possibly more in other coins, so not bad.

I'm sure he won't have any problems with money for a long time, especially since he already had some BTC saved up
I'm not sure if he'll have any problems with this in terms of justice, but just the donations he's receiving is already a very good amount
I also saw Ross' video
In a few weeks or months he should appear on some podcasts, interviews etc, it'll be interesting to follow the next steps, but for now I'm sure he needs to have some time with his family and friends

I see people saying that he has some bitcoins stashed up, but how do we know this? I don't think he would ever mention this himself, even if that was true.
All of the bitcoins he had at the time of his arrest would've been seized unless he had wallets that the authorities did not know about.
And even if he had a secret stash, he would likely give it up to his family to cover for the legal costs etc. I don't think he expected to ever get out of prison.
-
This is the first public speech made by Ross Ulbricht after getting released from prison, place he spent last eleven years of his life.
It was a short video but Ross was clearly emotional and he thanked president Trump for pardoning him.
I can't wait to hear one of his interviews, and he should probably write a book about his jail time.

I think it's only a matter of time before we hear some news about these Bitcoins
But in any case he's going to receive some good donations in BTC

If it was anyone in his circle who gave him that advice, then he needs to stop taking advice from that person. However, i think it was entirely his decision, Trump does not look like someone that can be 'influenced' into doing something, his wife also launched hers, so it was a family decision to grab money, lol.

It made perfect sense donating to him while he was in jail, but I don't understand why people insisted so much on donating to him after he was released from prison.
Maybe he promised to give big chunk of his BTC to Trump and ''strategic reserves'' as part of some internal deal with him.
Nobody can convince me that Trump did his pardon out of goodness of his heart :)

As much as we love and hate him, you really have to admire what Trump did here. In any case, there will still be someone that will cast doubts on him, no matter what the did as obviously, there is politics behind this move.
As for Ross, yeah, another chance for a second life and probably could be the the story of the year as the impact is huge for libertarian around the world.

well he was in prison for a long time and while i do not think he does not have 0 on his bank account, it could not be easy to get back on his feet after he gets out so the donations could help with that also it is really just a symbolism and a show of support
bragging rights if you will like Look I support Ross, I donated!!

it is just a political move
trump does not need his bitcoins lol

Ross has always been very attached to Bitcoin and the entire libertarian community, so you can be sure that he will still receive good donations from these people
Perhaps he can still receive donations anonymously and even offline (offchain)
I don't know if Trump already knew Ross's story in the past, but his promise may have made many libertarians vote for him for this gesture

To admire about what exactly?
He clearly made a deal with Ross and his mother, so let's wait and see what is going to happen in next few months.
I wouldn't be surprised if I hear anything coming from Ross now... because Trump is never giving away freebies for nothing.

Sure he did, even Ross said he kept his word, so he knew about his case...probably via his crypto advisors.
