So finally, we will have a unification fight at the welterweight division for this year. Since Crawford and Spence has left this division, it has somewhat lost his luster as the champion is not a household name.
Although Ennis seems to be the one carrying the torch, he need a big fight to showcase if he has want it takes to bring this division again in front of the headline or at least boxing fans interested again at 147 lbs as this is the center weight class which produces great fights before.
Ennis held the IBF belt while Stanionis was elevated to full champion by the WBA.

Honestly i'm not so familiar with this two fighters, only heard of Ennis as the potential opponent to Terrence Crawford but unfortunately that fight didn't materialize. Basing on records, i have Ennis winning this fight as he got the experience and Stanionis coming from a long layoff. This is one exciting fight that we as boxing fans are longing for.
-
Ennis is much faster and has good footwork than Stanionis though both has knockout and stopping power but that really depends on their condition during their fight. This fight be very intense I guess and maybe I expect a knockout win on this one in favor of Ennis.
-
Ennis they say is the favourite between the 2. Since Stanionis is still young I wouldn't really see Ennis able to KO him but he probably will win by decision.
I only know a few names in the list of boxers they knock, not really among those big names. But these are guys that haven't go up a few divisions since they fight as pro.

Stanionis had a schedule fight against one of the most dangerous fighter at 147 lbs that time, Vergil Ortiz. But we all know that Vergil has a lot of health issues and that fight didn't happen as it could really be a very interesting match up.
Yeah, it's true, Ennis has been calling Crawford for a fight, but Bud is not interested on him as there are no money and that time Ennis has yet to established himself in this division.

This may well be the fight that will establish Ennis if he totally dominates Stanionis. The same with Stanionis: after this fight, they can brag that they deserve to take a shot on any prominent boxers, and that includes Crawford.
I studied both fighters style and power in their previous fights, and I must say this matchup has the makings of a great fight.
I don't see anyone backing up them, so we expect a full slug and no holds barred fight; eventually, the fighter who has the power and who wants it more will win the fight.

I agree, it's going to be a make or break for both. Style makes fight and so this one could be a classic brawler in Stanionis and then defensive fighter in Ennis. So we will see which style are going to prevail here.
Although I'm seeing Ennis as the favorite going into this fight. but don't sleep on Stanionis as he might pull a big upset here.

In terms of age, Stanionis is the older fighter of the trwo since he is already 30 years of age while Ennis is just 27 years old. Young in the since that Stanionis has only fought 15 times in his whole career and i could say that Ennis has the advantage experience-wise.
-
Yeah, I was like who are these guys? ;D This is a good way to showcase their talent and prove who is the best in the division. It's better than two household names that throw shots on social media or in interviews but keep on dodging each other where the fight really matters (the ring).

They are both young still. Both of them can KO each other but if you are to manage put these athletes in a less risky situation like not really ruined their career, you you allow any of these two in a devastating KO while they are young?
These boxing stables must have such feeling when they saw Mungia fell the worse like a dog that will not try to bark once again. My guess is that if anyone has to win, he shall win in unanimous decision.

Unfortunately, this two are champions in the 147 lbs, but they are not household names unlike their predecessors in Spence and Crawford and any other champions before them.
So they really need to show us something so that we won't forget their names as this division has produces the best boxers like Manny Pacquiao. I'm not sure who you are describing though, both Crawford and Spence has outgrown this division already.

This is because Crawford and Spence have been ruling the division for so long that other names are just extras in the division. Both Stationis and Ennis are overshadowed by these two fighters.
Now that both Crawford and Spence are not out of the division, its their time to shine. now, whoever wins in this fight will have their name echoing in the welterweight division, so its a very important fight between the two.

Bumping this thread as the fight is three days away from happening.
Basing on the odds below, Ennis is the favorite to win and it seems that the bookies are predicting that this would end via decision because the odds for a decision win for Ennis is not that high.

@Baofeng, your thoughts mate. Will be closely following your speculation before i will put my bet on this fight.
-
I don't think that this fight is going to be easy for Ennis. This is going to be war although Stanionis is coming from a long layoff. With that said I think Ennis will win here.
But as far as betting goes, I might skipped this one and would rather bet on others sports. It's not that I don't like this fight, but there is no hype, just saying.
Good luck though to those who are going to bet and hopefully you guys win.

They are now both champions in this division, and this is a unification fight. And true, Spence and Crawford has outgrown this division already and so it's time for this fighter to shine although as what we have been seeing, this are no name fighters or at least majority of us are now familiar. Nevertheless, the welterweight division needs a new name to carry the torch so either of this two could be the that one or Mario Barrios who is also a champion as well.

@Baofeng, your thoughts mate. Will be closely following your speculation before i will put my bet on this fight.
I will go with Ennis via 12 rounds decision and winning by majority decision from the judges scorecard. I do not think that he can score a knockout win against a very tough Stanionis.
And even though he is out for the longest time, it will still very hard to crack his chin.

That's a good bet; there is no question who will end up the winner in this fight. Ennis is now considered the best welterweight until the departure of Crawford and Ortiz there is no one in the division that can beat him; there is no close opposition, not unlike the times of Pacquiao and
Crawford where there are 3 to 4 champions who has a claim as the real champions, with Ennis he gets all the titles.

This is noted and i will tail you on this one. To be honest i have not seen these boxers fight live and on Sunday might be my first to see them fight each other. I don't wanna base my bet on their highlights so it is good to have you here :).

I already pulled the trigger in our local betting. I don't what to forget it that's why I pull the trigger very early. I understand mate, even though this is 147 lbs and should be the center of boxing, unfortunately the champions are not even comparable to the previous champions that's why even some fans are not into this division.
Hopefully when Ryan Garcia and others decided to stay here, then it will be a fun division once more. When Devin Haney and Teo Lopez plus the current champion of the division like Ennis and Barrios.
-
Poor showing by Stanionis here. He is very slow and the skills of Ennis was really in full display here. I thought that the fight might at least go to distance, but the ring rust though was a big factor for him to be like an amateur fighter and he doesn't have that power.
Good for his trainer to stop the fight as he will get a lot of upper cut and the fight is really a mismatch as Ennis win all the rounds in my card. So let's see if him and Barrios are going to fight next. Might be a better fight for him as compare to a "no mas" Stanionis.
-
And that's why I chooses to skip this fight and not bet on it as this could either be a mismatch or Stanionis might pull a upset. But it was the former and as expected, although still very impressive win by Ennis and cemented his name with a 3 belt champion including the Ring magazine if I'm not mistaken.
That is the logical next move for him, target Barrios as the next fight for him and get his belt and then go for the unification fight. Unless either organization will force him to fight their mandatory, then maybe he will have to go and follow them.

I lost my bet on this fight because I thought Ennis would win by decision. I believed Stanionis was a tough fighter who could withstand Ennis's onslaught, but Boots proved me wrong. Stanionis was the most popular name Boots Ennis had faced, and he was the acid test for him. Ennis passed that test with flying colors.

It was an easy and effortless fight for Ennis; all he needs to do is to wait for Ennis and counter his moves. I'm surprised how easy it was; all Ennis is just too good, just like Crawford when he was in the welterweight. there's really nothing to argue; Ennis is the real undisputed welterweight champion and so far nothing comes close to him.

The long inactivity of Stanionis took its toll on that fight, as he had only fought twice in the span of three years before meeting Boots Ennis. Stanionis is undoubtedly a good fighter, but Boots came to this fight well-prepared and with more punching power. I've read reports that Boots Ennis's priority is to dominate this division and become a four-belt unified champion in the welterweight category. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if they announce a fight between Boots and Mario Barrios one day.

I do agree with the long layoff as this could be the case on why Stanionis lost this fight and it looks like very easy for Ennis. I will also wanted to see him fight Mario Barrios.
It's will be a great fight as Barrios is also huge as compare to Stanionis and this fight is going to be very competitive. And it make sense for Ennis to go after Barrios as he only hold another belt in this division. 3 belt champion will be a good title until Ennis waist, so let's wait for this fight.
