recently came across a post about crypto abbreviations or terminologies that one should know so i thought that it would be quite helpful and interesting if we also had one for gambling terms
these are ones i found:
RTP: return to player (long term payout potential of a game)
ATS: against the spread (betting against a spread)
O/U: over/under (bets on total points)
CP: comp points (loyalty points)
VIP: very important person
ML: moneyline (bet on the winner of an event)
are there more you would like to add that you think some people may not be that familiar with yet?
-
Thank you @bitterguy28 for sharing at least it would help the beginners who are yet to understand about the terminology or short words about gambling.
When these words are correctly it would help and guide them whenever they came across such words.
Plus 1 karma for you.

VIP: very important person
This is not an abbreviation that is special to gambling alone, as I am sure most of us already know.
One abbreviation that I am familiar with from sportsbetting is BTTS, which is "Both teams to score.".
-
GG - Good Game. This might be something heard on online games and sports but you can hear this words on gambling too, it means of being sportsmanship.
In sports betting there is also HT (Half time) and FT (Full time) bet of the outcome score.
-
Maybe you can add:
OT=Overtime, in sports betting, there is this bet that the game will end wherein both teams are tied in score
SU =Straight Up, could be the same as ML, as you are betting on the outright winner without looking at the initial spread
-
Yes, it is a word that we often find in gambling, so it is quite important to understand it so that we are not confused by words that are specifically in gambling.
But sometimes we must have experienced where we find the word but we forget its meaning. Lol
I often do that, even though in the end I remember the meaning of the term.

gg mostly i hear from mobile games after players end a match maybe it is also used in sports but most of the time i hear it only from players and less from the gamblers themselves But sometimes we must have experienced where we find the word but we forget its meaning. Lol

some people might not even know the real meaning of some abbreviations but they just know which context they can use it for because of how much they hear it without knowing the real meaning

Thank you for sharing OP but this isn't helping me since I already quit gambling but this surely helps those who are still in the industry. I've been in gambling since I was a kid and this is my first time seeing something like this abbreviation in gambling since I really don't have any idea about it until I see this post.

I didn't know there's such a thing as betting against the spread.

Seriously? Some of the abbreviations are only used in specific sports that you probably don't bet on but you must at least heard VIP before. That abbreviations is often used outside of gambling, you hear it in almost all offices.

Lol, in our country mate, there are no abbreviations, as far as I can remember when betting on basketball, we only used the term +(plus) or -(minus), but it's better known as handicap.
Or even the ML or straight up, we just say "who is going to win".
But with the advent of online betting, I learn this terms but I still used the old term when playing against someone PvP, like in our old and traditional barbershop, ;D

yeah i think a lot of the abbreviations came from online because of how bothersome it was to type but when speaking in real world there will only be confusion if i used these abbreviations
this is also why i am sharing this because i know many who gambled traditionally before are really not aware of some of the abbreviations used in online betting which is something a lot of people are starting to get into as well

You can found VIP meaning another thing from what we know. In gambling, VIP simply means another thing like Very Important Player. OP, made a mistake in that.
Gambling has an abbreviations that is VIP (Very Important Player).
Words like ROI can be found in gambling abbreviations, and it has another meaning from what we know.
ROI in gambling means Return on investment.

GG can also mean Goal Goal in gambling. This is an option in football betting which means that both teams to score.
We have the reverse which is NG. NG stands for No Goal Goal. This means that both teams will not score in the match.
DC: This abbreviation stands for Double Chance. This means that either of the team can either win or draw the match based on the gamblers prediction.
