Most are times Nigerians are good when it comes to complaining and procrastinating the problems that they are facing in the country without proffering solutions to the issues at hand, one thing that I have been able to learn and come to agreement in life is that nothing happens with out a propelling Force behind it.
The development that we are seeing in Europe and in the Americas did not just come like that but it came as a result of people's efforts and advocacy,we as citizens has failed in our role by holding our leaders to account for what they are doing with the mandate that the citizens have given them by way of elections, we must leave this present level that we are and stand up for our right by holding our leaders accountable in their duty to providing the basic amenities and creating the right environment for Nigerians to life a good life of their dreams

The thing is that if some group of people come out to talk against the current doings of the government, some people will still be paid to oppose them knowing fully well that what the government are doing is not right.
So all of these contributes towards the apathy we see when it comes to citizens talking or organizing a movement against the wrong doings of the government or government negligence towards their roles in society or the country as a whole.

That is even the more reason that we as citizens needs to not give up on our role to play the role of a peer group by always constantly talking about the bad thing or areas that our government is not doing well wether there are people trying to oppose us or not because the fact about life is that there will always be opposition and every body will not always see things the way you are seeing it. Because government always try to bribe some citizens due to the rate of poverty that the government has put us so some citizens will sabotage what others are trying to do but we can't give up because some few individuals who has not seen reason in doing the right thing we must at all time hold our leaders to accountable by by demanding for good governance from them
-
I have said several times that if this country wants to start experiencing what other sister countries are experiencing, it would take a strong will and dedicated sets of individuals who are united and have a common goal and vision otherwise whatever you are doing is a waste of time. Look at Ghana, and some other African countries, it took them a strong commitment to make sure things worked out perfectly well in their various countries.
Now back to our country, the same people you are holding meetings and making arrangements with are the same people who would sabotage the whole process just for their selfish interest of enriching themselves. So what is the point when the people are not ready for the change they desire what do you want to do, would you force the change to take place?
We have long been talking about change yet most of the corrupt political officeholders were voted into power by the same youths that are clamoring for change the same youths want them to make things work out well and how do they expect them to do it when they the leaders know if they do things well, the power they have would mean nothing to the same youth who voted them in so they would withhold everything and give out crumbs so that they would sing their praise again and vote them back into office. What an irony!

I'm not insulting anybody tribe, religion or culture but for we as a nation to progress tribalism has to stop

You're actually right because tribalism is one big problem that we have in Nigeria as the basis at which people vote during election is based on tribal affiliations and this has contributed to the bad government that we are experiencing in the country, we need to grow above this kind of mindset if we are to experience good leadership from our politicians
-
Those in leadership positions should have this understanding that they will be held responsible on how they live their lives and also contribute to how others leave theirs, because they are in a leadership position, they have the full responsibility of being in charge of the well-being of the people, contributing towards building a secured nation and working by how everyone will have their dreams comes a reality, and not exercising authority of the masses and not leaving by example.

If the citizens don't know there right of good governance and effective representation and keep following politicians like their lives depends on them, them these politicians will have no option than to treat the citizens with no regard and not being accountable to the citizens so before you expect politicians who are more concerned about their personal interest the citizens should stand up for their rights first before politicians will also take the citizens serious and fulfill their duty as leaders
-
One of the problem's of under developed countries is high level of corruption and this practice have lowered that level of treatment to their citizens.
The level of accountability is public offices is very low and corruption seems to be the order of the day with corruption being systematic in the government offices.

Politicians has turned their selves to deme god's in this part of the world and has placed a high level of protocols around them selves making it difficult for the ordinary citizens to access them, this is due to the corruption as politicians have corruptly enriched themselves with public funds and until this kind of leadership ends in the country we as a nation cannot move forward because any where there is no transparency in a place such environment cannot develop.

Lazy people who wouldn'tove to work but prefer to be slaves to this politicians will always back them up in their manipulative activities. Imagine people fighting for the betterment of something and some are shattering their goals through violence. Low mentality and selfishness has made a lot of people sell their birth rights for porridge.

I’m always flabbergasted when I come across people who are in support of tribalism bullshit when they are conversing it will look as if they are 2 years old kids discussing how they’ll purchase their first mansion - they are all brain rot to the core.
You can see very well that a certain person is not competent to be in a position but because you know the person is from your tribe you’ll rather vote for him than someone else who is capable of doing wonders in that same office because he’s not from the same tribe as yourself. Isn’t that the highest form of insaneness?

This is an actual fact that I agree with. Basically one of the major things that needs to be tackled in this country in other for growth to be increased is the rate at which tribalism and religion has eaten deep into the system. The problem of tribalism can also be attributed to the fact that Nigeria is a very diverse country coupled with a relatively large land mass.
They are way too many tribes and ethnic groups in Nigeria which is part of the reason why religion and tribe is a limiting factor in most sections including politics.

This is the major issue we are facing here in our country, tribalism has eaten deep into the fabrics of our system. This has kept the country were it is today. There is nothing like unity in the eyes of ethnic groups we have in this country as everyone wants to support theirs without even having a proper examination if their own person they are gunning for is fit or capable for the position they ought to put them.in. As a result of this attitude in there have been lots of mistakes in the leadership of the nation were people with poor mentality occupy exalted offices and can not do what is expected of them instead they embezzle funds and resources just because they have poor vision and does not fit for the position they were elected into.
Till we do away with that ethnicity sentiment, this country would still be as it is and there is nothing anybody can do about it.

Aside from tribalism being a huge hindrance in the growth of our economy I think religion has now started to play a part in it as well.
In most society or gatherings, you’ll see some Muslims constantly disagreeing with someone not because they are wrong but because that idea or opinion is coming from someone who is not a believer of their religion, and this too is a factor for slow economic growth.
-
Its deeply rooted already in the system. I'm from somewhere else but our politicians have been doing the same since the time I learn about putting them in position.
If we could just replace them with just new every time we see faults, we would have done it every week. There is just no way of doing it unless we really show them a punishment worth frightening that they will avoid committing mistakes.

This is true too that part of the reason why I also mentioned previously that religion is also a problem in this country. Religion and tribalism of so much eaten the into the system to the extent that sometimes people even mistake some certain tribes for religions for example some uneducated people with tell you that hausa people are Muslims forgeting that there's a difference between Islam and the hausas.
These problem have to be fixed too. It's not only about saying one Nigeria one people. It's also about implementing it too.

Aside from our leaders, we also need to hold and demand accountability from ourselves. It becomes very easy in our country for us to blame the government, which we all know is terrible and bad, but on an individual level, you get to find out that some people are as bad as the government they claim is terrible, and for that purpose, the lack of complete accountability.
We should practice the same accountability as we want our government to.
-
The level of corruption in Nigeria dey very high so if dey talk about holding leaders accountable for there actions e dey very hard because majority no even know there right.so if dey say they won protest u go see some citizen go dey support this politicians and at the end the protest no go get head.untill the citizens are united and how come to a decision that enough is enough thats the only way most of this nonsense will end.

It is true that people have their own unique way of perceiving things, which is based on the environment, their past and information they are given. In real life, I have observed that numerous challenges happen not in terms of a scarcity of resources but due to their utilisation and distribution. If something is not well then you must know that there is no solution but sometimes the solution is hidden or shielded by certain people or certain practises that are never easy to alter. Some of us may not achieve a mindset to transform everything as we leap, but it is possible to start with the immediate environment. Where insisting on getting it right and nobody really knows the answer, people change things through questioning, debate and comparatively often finding constructive ways of getting it done. This is not about knowing is more than the other or being superior in the political aspect, but of making things right with the willingness and dedication to work for it.

There is one thing to hold the government accountable and another is the government to actually see fault in what they have been doing and change their ways. I personally believe that the government do not care if the citizens are even alive or not, this can of course be seen in the way they run the country and handle matters. May God help us all

Although I am not from your country, today I came across a post depicting your rapidly declining economy. I am quoting it,
One of the things responsible for the falling GDP is devaluation of naira. But no devaluation since naira got to 1800 to a dollar in many months ago which is now more than a year ago. So why the GDP still falling. I was surprised with what I saw two days ago. I was unable to post about it until today.
Nigeria GDP:
In 2014: $568.57 billion
In 2015: $492.44 billion
In 2016: $404.65 billion
In 2017: $375.75 billion
In 2019: $474.55 billion
In 2021: $441.63 billion
In 2023: $363.82 billion
In 2024: $199.72 billion
In 2025: $194.96 billion
I think we have more exports now and naira value is not falling like before. Why the declining GDP.
Considering this I do not think your assumptions are wrong.

The so called custodians of the law who claim to hold us in their heart are rather killing us small small with the policies they implement and even the way they run the whole governmental processes, do you know the numbers of people that have died as a result of poverty and bad government. The government isn't even concerned about our welfare in any way. Anyways while the government is to be blamed, the citizens should also step up and learn skills be it digital, soft skills etc which they can use to better their lives because the government has nothing good in stall for us
-
The thing is that if some group of people come out to talk against the current doings of the government, some people will still be paid to oppose them knowing fully well that what the government are doing is not right.
So all of these contributes towards the apathy we see when it comes to citizens talking or organizing a movement against the wrong doings of the government or government negligence towards their roles in society or the country as a whole.
Citizens also contribute to the problems we are facing in the country, because they prioritize their personal gains over the well being of the country, because based on what you said, I have also witnessed it. Some groups of people will stand up to protest against bad government, while some will be defending the government despite knowing the truth due to bribery.
All these are the causes of government negligence because a lot of people support them despite doing the wrong thing. If all citizens come together, collaborate and protect against government negligence and also highlight government wrong doings. The law makers will put the complaint into consideration and they must take action against the government whether they like it or not. The government may be forced to step down, or it will be force to listen to the cries of the citizens. And this will held a positive result, because the country will be provided with social amenities, healthcare Infrastructure and other essential services.

I concur. Learning a skill be it an handwork, or even a digital skill like programming, graphic design, affiliate marketing etc and also soft skills like public speaking etc, is pivotal considering the way the economy is going presently. Personally speaking even if we hold our leaders for every mishaps in the country, there would not still be a difference we may still even remain in that condition we are, unless something is done to personally make a difference. This act of making a difference can be reflected in our ability to learn a new skill be it a handwork or an online skills.

There is a saying that goes this way When the foundation is broken, what can the righteous do?
The whole problem Nigeria is facing today is a result of the beginning of the Nigerian independence. It has even been on my own, my turn all through selfishness. Those who had a part of making good for everyone, they never sat long on the seat of rulership, or rather still, they were not regarded as men, but women.
On the stand for truth in a meeting discussion, everyone is one, at the end of the meeting, then there goes people with different selfish interest. To spoil and expose the meeting discussion to the opponents. Funny enough, is there supposed to be opponent when it comes to the development of one's country?
The rulers and leaders have eaten so deep the citizens into corruption, that there is no turning back from corruption in Nigeria. If a presidential campaigner will say It's my turn what do you expect?
-
Snips
You're right the current condition that our leaders have put us into it's better that we look inward and take our destinies into our hands by trying to acquire skills be it a digital skill or something that we can do with our hands so that we can add value to our life's because our government is not concerned about what happens to her citizens that is why they give no hear to the plight of the people that gives them constitutional mandates of becoming leaders in the society, we should have one thing that we are doing to changing our present economic conditions while we continue to pressure and hold our leaders accountable in doing the right thing which is to make sure that government stands up to it responsibility of providing the basic amenities for her citizens and managing our economy well

The issue is not the people, but the government. Most of the individuals you see not been accountable is as a result of the bad governance. The truth is that when the government is not accountable to the people, the people will see their station as a means of survival, making accountability difficult.
Consider a country where the economy is failing and the people are suffering; if the cost of transportation exceeds the workers' income, the workers will have to improvise, and if this is the case, they will almost certainly be involved in some shady deals that jeopardize their credibility.

I am not surprised many people force themselves to take a short cut especially when their expenses fail to meet their necessities. But if all claim the user arrived at a desperate measure thereby using it as an apology for wrong deeds then gradually all human dignity may be eroded. I think you were or are even in a rather tight position, but it is in such conditions that people’s character emerges. What I am not speaking of is having the glory of being a hero, but of having some limits, however slim, to what one is willing to do. If all you can do is to stay real and wholesome while society is harsh and cruel, then, believe me, that itself is a rebellion. Because sometimes the great occurrence is located in a couple of choices, which is right even when it is so much easier to be wrong.

First of all, have you traveled to those European countries and lived there for at least 10 years to understand their system of governance I believe your answer will be no because based on your analysis you seem to lack theoretical bases to make your statement therefore you still belong to the class of those that stereotypes and comparing Naija economy to that of US or UK is wrong considering the years US and UK have been independent and how many years naija independent have been.
Nonetheless, let's hope that the pest of development right now will continue and Nigeria be able to arrive at a class where we also be called developed countries.
That time we can at least hold our leaders to account for whatever has been entrusted into their hands.

Human life is about survival, and anyone who is not meeting their needs must devise ways to survive. This is the nature of humans. The competition for scarce resources has forced people to go to any length to get ahead of others.
This is understandable given that human needs are insatiable, making it difficult for their income to cover their necessities. This is why they are always striving for more, regardless of what they have.

If by the time they all gain independent you are right because those countries has been independent for a very long time than Nigeria, so there economy should have been very strong than the Nigeria, though having said that I still believe that even if those countries had there independent the same time with Nigeria they would still have a stable economy than Nigeria because there is a different between someone that want to expand their knowledge and someone who just want to remain as they are, so those country would have still be above us because of there innovative lifestyle.

In Nigeria today, people are the most problem about the situation they are facing in presently, I should say they are doomed by little token that are been given to them even before their leaders should come to power, but in a normal sense how can someone pay you to vote for them and you expect them to do a perfect work that is supposed to be done voluntary. Definitely they will not, since they have paid them and gotten what they want. Basically it is good to hold there leaders accountable but where will they start from when their is no unity among themselves, everyone is always after what he or she will benefit from the top leaders, they don't care about others but rather themselves and their families. But the people can still do best, if they have unity and speak the same voice and forget about there selfishness attitude. Because Nigeria is a country that is bless with so many mineral resources better than many countries that are far better than them now, is just that they lack good leaders that are leading them, but i believe one day the country will be better for good.

From the past elections, I have seen awareness from the people that even when they accept that little token from politicians they are still concerned about voting for the most credible but then issue of credibility is always not objective because candidates will always have blind followers who are ready to die for their pay master.
However, politicians who win elections are those politicians who already holds power because they already control the apparatuses of the government and so they use this to their advantage to rig election and make sure they stay on top of the affairs of the leadership of the country and use this for their selfish interest.

you're absolutely right, but base on my observation I'd say that both the government and the citizens are at fault, because if the system of government is failing the citizens have every right to hold the government accountable, and challenge its action without being blamed. But instead, some people choose to defend the government for their own selfish purposes, leaving the less privileged to surfer the consequences and weakening their ability to challenge the government.
Some individuals are helpless and that's the reason why they turn to illegal activities due to circumstances. The citizens are also contributing to bad governance by accepting bribes and defending the government interests. Because if the government try to bribe any citizen to defend its interest against the poor, and the citizens reject bribes and stand together in unity, the government would be forced to listen to their opinions, suggestions, and needs.

This is a common trend and it is clear that despite the desire to vote with credibility, reality intervenes in politics. Since most candidates are in a position to have some or many aspects of governance, then election really does not represent the people’s will in most occasions. This means that one who has such power can mobilise available resources to clinch a victory while the support of the masses, even if they are loyal, can be bought through any means including fixing the poll regardless of the character of the individual lucky to secure the win. It is one of the issues that frequently appear in a number of political systems of different countries.

There is no doubt that the democratic system is carried out on inequality and the social injustice is permitted to prevail. That is why when a certain individual acquires power in fact and rationality along with the structure of a government, there is the possibility of manipulating or even arresting the tendency of people’s choice. It is generally observed that such individuals who ascend in polls not only carry visions but also resources and reach capable enough to manage opinion extensively. Such circumstances make the election results not always reflect the people’s aspirations as it demonstrates the outcomes of systematically developed tendencies. When this happens time and again, it is only but normal that some individuals will start questioning if their vote makes a difference at all in the society.

Many of us have it at heart to come out to protest what we feel is not deem fit for us as a citizen, but as we’re engaging in such acts, some other people will go behind to sabotage mtge effort of ours which in the end will also make our effort fruitless and still get penalized for trying to voice out against the government. We have indeed seen how developed countries came to be today but we can’t be able to follow in their footsteps because we don’t really practice the system of government they do even if we claim to be doing same thing as them. The country has been in a hell for sometime now and I don’t think with the way things are going we are going to see a change soon. We will always remain optimistic to the development of the nation no matter what, but we don’t get the right to know when and how to make that happen.

Even if we claim to be practicing a democratic system of government, what we do is vastly different from what other advanced countries consider democracy. Election is what I call selection as it is the case in Nigeria. People's aspirations do not always manifest. This is why a leader can do everything wrong in office, including ignoring the welfare of the people, and still be elected to office again to continue ruling.
This will not change until the judiciary decides to render fair judgment and the INEC decides to hold an open and transparent election. Only these can change the negative narrative in our democracy.

Those you named that are developed are the ones underdeveloping Nigeria and other African countries so even if we switched to action, we can't beat the manipulators of our economy. If I wished all the African countries can join hands with the Burkina Faso President now to fight the West, things would have been better in the long Run. But instead they are fighting against the young boy.
God should sustain that boy and make him live long.

The thing is that if some group of people come out to talk against the current doings of the government, some people will still be paid to oppose them knowing fully well that what the government are doing is not right.
This is the exact definition of people will always support an ill system as long as the illness of the system doesn't affect them. It's the base code of corruption. A corrupt system favours some at the detriment of numerous people.
It's the reason politicians refuse to see the illness in the system obviously because their benefits come from those illnesses.
