Title: Myetherwallet is not really safe
Post by: pokxon on July 11, 2018, 01:19:32 PM
MythMyEtherWallet warns users of the hacked Hola application
Hola is a free VPN service with over 8 million installs and a 4.9 star rating.

Specifically, the MEW side posted the following on their Twitter:

"URGENT! If you have installed the Hola extension on a Chrome browser and have used your MEW wallet for the last 24 hours, please immediately transfer your funds to a brand new account!

We have received reports that Hola has been hacked for about 5 hours and this attack is to record your activity on MEW. "

I think myetherwallet is not safe, because recently MEW was frequently visited by hackers and the incident four months ago had total 216 ETH stolen after some DNS servers were taken over and controlled. That leads the user to a fake website

Using free VPNs are not safe I think. Get your self a paid VPN and be safe. It is also good to check URLs of websites really well.

MEW is safe as long as it is not interfere by the hackers and as long as you did not log in into phishing site. Also take care your private key and don't always open your wallet because the more you open the more it is prone to counterfeit.

Just get a cold wallet for MEW and you should be okay or just use metamask instead.. I personally prefer MEW with cold storage over metamask, but its all personal preference.

Yes a lot of news that myether is attacked by hackers and makes user assets disappear. we recommend using a safe and reliable website to keep our assets safe from hackers that harm all crypto users.

I've hacked too in the past with my MEW address, not only once but many times. So, the remedy I did was to migrate to MetaMask. Use google chrome and get the MetaMask chrome extension. There are lots of video tutorials in youtube on how to do it. Below are some.

Nothing is 100% safe in this world, but by taking the precautions that mew developers advise, you can minimize the theft of your funds. The developers of mew, I think do everything to hack them was extremely difficult.

I think on other side, mew is still safe. We are allow third application developers on the browser that we use, and maybe enabling the tracking of internet activity by hacker. If you want using VPN, please cleared your cookies browser before and do not access your important account.

It is prone to hackers because most crypto users use myetherwallet as their storage of their token earnings that is why everyone has the full responsibility with their own account for their own safety. Every soft wallet are vulnerable to hackers attack, if you want to ensure your tokens have some hardware wallet instead.

I have been using that said ethereum wallet for a long time now and so far I have not encountered any hackings of some sort but I do make sure that I do not install any crypto related plugins all of my usernames and passwords and private keys are saved on paper not in my computer.

Today there was an issue with metamask extension on chrome. It is really important for accessing MEW.
Metamask was delisted from chrome which gave an opportunity to a phising metamask copy app...
It was said that the issue was solved
Always prefer Brave or firefox browsers.

In my own opinion i think myetherwallet is still safe to use and risk is in the hands of account holder because sometimes owner of the account is saving their private keys in not safer place where the hacker can easily track due to some installed hacking application in websites.

For complete security, I advise you to get a second purse, the address of which you have not sent anywhere. With the main transfer of all funds to the second, it is better to overpay for gas than to lose everything. Even if you have such an opportunity: go to the wallet from a separate computer on which you do not shake anything, do not sit on different sites and do not watch a movie and the like where there is no constant access to the Internet.
