Title: Getting error while updating profile image
Post by: DYING_S0UL on March 11, 2025, 03:01:27 PM
Long story short, I tried to update my profile image but ended with an error. The image was directly collected from google, so I am not aware of it's height or width.

Btw, is there any specific height width requirement for the profile to work properly? Any idea what caused it? :(

You are a member on Bitcointalk forum too and I believe you should be aware too that most SMF forums have maximum specifications for uploading an avatar. Concerning that I think you should first of all try reducing the image size and also the height and width.

The avatar space is way too small to carry some huge image or gif that is where it has some limitations in spec. Nevertheless if you're having any trouble with using the size and dimensions you can PM me.

Hey there mate! Being a member of Bitcointalk doesn't make me a SMF expert. Yes, I am aware there may be some limitations on height and width of image that are being uploaded as profile picture. But I don't know the exact value of it. Never faced anything like this, so I never dug any deeper. The image size is only 32kb, so I don't think it is the issue. The main concerning point is the height and width!

Btw DM sent! :)

Well what actually meant was the fact that both forums should have almost the same specifications concerning avatar uploads. Nevertheless based on the size of this particular image you mentioned here 32 KB is way too big for an image of dimension of around 80px to 100px and that means the height and width is the problem.

I've fixed the image height and width for you and sent it to you via PM looking forward to seeing it on your avatar space...

The images you can find are bigger in size like 360p, 640P, etc but the size of avatar must be 120p so you need to resize the picture into avatar size to upload it.

There are plenty of resizing tools available in Google, you can try any of it for future use.

This is not about being a member of the other forum (BTT). Many members of BTT practically struggle here to understand how things work.
For the avatar, I think the same dimension that works for BTT can work here. Just go to your BTT profile, as if you want to upload avatar.
Just checked it : 120px wide, 80px tall and not more than 100kb

I would also like to suggest this: Signature campaigns have the most suitable avatars for the forum, and we can refer to their sizes, usually 120x80 px. In case members want to try other sizes, they will need to test or refer to instructions on the maximum size and capacity for images.

Sometimes errors also occur when members use URL links to images, and forum cannot easily read information from those links. In this case, members should download the images and then upload them to the forum. I have also encountered this situation: I can see my avatar, but others cannot see it :)

That picture looks too big (in width and height) to be used as an avatar. The image size might also be a problem, but other people have already pointed that out.
The easiest solution is to open an image editor, and resize the Bitcoin image to smaller dimensions (keeping the aspect ratio the same if you want). This will also decrease the iamge size to acceptable levels automatically.

I guess its already the case, admin fixed it here https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=317004.msg1496509#msg1496509.
In OP's case better to upload it with resize image to avoid getting such errors.

It's cache issue from other's browsers, so you don't need to worry about it, it will reflect on their screens later on.
