Nowadays things have gone even further, but the populations have been accustomed to being spied on, and are indifferent.
Keep in mind that every big company that store your data, and get hacked, it is no longer sharing your data with the US agencies alone, but also with hackers, scammers, and many other foreign intelligences and entities.
It is important to fight against big corp data collection.
