I can't believe we don't have a dedicated topic for one of the major European leagues, French Ligue 1, so starting one and let's see if it catches on.

Compared to the other 4 leagues, the English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga, Ligue 1 does not attract much attention, one of the reasons is because this league is less competitive.

Paris Saint-Germain has almost no competitors, that's what makes this league boring. Bundesliga does have 1 team that is very dominant, but there is still more interesting competition there.

PSG have secured the championship some time ago, with 22 point advantage over the 2nd Marseille, but they still have something to play for. They can become the first ever French team to complete the season without a loss.
One team was close of achieving that, Nantes in the season 1994-95, but they ended with one loss. Still, for that season, Nantes holds the record of the longest unbeaten run within a single season (32 matches).
Both Nantes and PSG are playing tomorrow evening, but I don't expect Nantes will be able to ruin PSG's undefeated run.

Due to the league being reduced to 18 teams from 2023/24, PSG have no chance of beating their own record of the most points in a season (96), but they can still set a new record for the highest average points per game.

PSG has no contender for the title race from season to season and that makes it look as if Ligue 1 is their birth rite. I am hoping to see the day that a different club would win Ligue 1. However, the problem that these other clubs are having is because they are not rich.

The league is already indirectly theirs and before the season started almost everyone said they would be the champions and it proved to be so.

I also hope so where there is an increase in competition in Ligue 1 and I also agree that the obstacle is that other teams do not have very good finances like Paris Saint Germain which is finally something that makes a significant difference.

So much for finishing the season unbeaten. PSG was so close of beating Nantes' record for the longest unbeaten run within a single season (32 games) but their no-loss streak was unexpectedly ended by Nice.
I'm still to watch the highlights, but, looking at the game stats, PSG dominated in every aspect. They had 32/13 shots on goal/on target, while Nice only made 7/3. Possession was 76% for PSG. I'm guessing Nice must've been super-effective in their counter strikes.

Obviously that loss will not affect PSG in any way, but it's important 3 points for Nice, as they're now well-placed to fight for the 2nd or 3rd place.

I was trying to make a football parlay for the weekend and I was pretty close to adding PSG to win the game simply because of their unbeaten record in the league this season, but it’s all come to end, they do still deserve some huge credits though for playing this long without a single defeat despite losing their best player in Kylian Mbappe last season, they’ve flipped the switch and even became a better team.

The defeat did not affect them at all and on the contrary this was a very good victory for Nice, because with the additional 3 points they got in this match it still opens up their chances to be in the best position (can penetrate the Champions League).

There are only 3 matches left for them, while other teams still have 4 matches. So clearly it will also not be easy for them, because they have to see other teams lose points.

The end of the season is approaching fast, but we still have 6 teams with real chances for the 2nd and 3rd places. Currently the difference between the 2nd place and 7th place is only 2 points. Obviously Marseille and Lille both have one game played less than the others.
Marseille are playing Brest tomorrow at home. Odds (per BC.GAME) are:
Marseille: x1.48
Draw: x4.8
Brest: x6.0

Lille is playing away against Angers, with odds as follows:
Angers: x6.4
Draw: x4.0
LOSC: x1.54

I expect Marseille to win, as they have a home advantage and their motivation should be higher than Brest, who don't have much to play for anymore.
Angers might not be a strong team, but they are dangerously close to the relegation zone, so they'll take the game 100% seriously. Lille tend to perform much better at home, so home advantage could play a big role too. I probably wouldn't be betting on Lille in this one.

Montpellier is the first team to be relegated, I say goodbye to them.

The competition is still there for 17th and 16th place, because the points gap is still quite close, so it is still possible to change. Anger, Nantes and Reims also still have to focus, because the remaining matches are still very possible to make them overthrown by the teams currently in the relegation zone.

It is very reasonable that Montpellier is the bottom club in the standings this time and immediately entered the relegation zone which was eliminated from Ligue 1. Because their performance is very bad, it has dropped very drastically compared to last season.

This time they only have 4 wins and even worse, there are 23 losses. This number is very bad, compared to last season in Mana Montpellier could finish in 12th position with 10 wins and 12 losses, the rest were draws. So, there is indeed a lot of homework that they must fix from this season.

And for PSG, congratulations for winning the first leg against Arsenal in the UCL semi-finals this time.

Yes, they are the team with the most defeats, they have suffered 23 defeats so they have to be willing to not be in Ligue 1 next season.

Yes, compared to last season, their performance has indeed declined significantly. They lost something which made them worse rather than improving. They have to fight again to be in Ligue 1 next season.
